  • I tried this but when i tried the water wouldnt break the sugar cane. I also made mine with a lever.

  • @darcipeeps22 this design is a little bit out-dated now. However, the most likely reason that the water isn't breaking the canes is because you'll have forgotten a non-plantable area just after the water tubing. To break the canes, the water must be on the same level as the bottom cane when it makes contact with them.

    Hope this helps

  • didnt work :(

  • @byTqnty It should work. Make sure you watch the video with annotations on - I misplaced a block and point it out using an annotation.

  • @777static777 when i tried it the water just poured everywhere

  • @byTqnty hmm, in that case you're doing something wrong

  • i have a question. do you have to replant every time after harvesting?

  • @darcipeeps22 Yes. When this video was made pistons hadn't been added to the game yet and so there was no way to only break off the top couple pieces

  • and does not even go under the glaass!!

  • @ThomascTV If you've done this correctly it will work perfectly. However, there are better ways of doing sugarcane farms now - this design has become obsolete.

  • and also my i tryed the cover i thinks its ok but the water only goes about half way

  • You say "Guys" 10t/s

  • @TheRealLaugh99 Yep, but we all have those things that we say/do too much =p

  • Nice tut man, very easy to follow.

  • @connawhite94 Glad to here it =)

  • Awesome! :)

  • DID ANY 1 ELSE SEE SUBSIRBE?

  • Static where are you from :)?

  • @chappegrym1 very close to Melbourne, Australia =)

  • @777static777 is there any chance that you live in werribee? :P

  • @777static777 static same here if your reading this can you tell me which suburb

  • did every little detail right but my water won't flow all the way down to the base. Water flow looks glitched.

  • @remsat10 my guess is that you're issue might be with the case you built around the water-works. Try removing the case and see if it works. If it does, then it means that your case is cutting off one or more of the water flows.

  • hey could u please make a vid on how to do the case because im a beginer and cant even make a start

  • 10 cant do this

  • Maybe someone can explain this one for me, I got to let the water run down to clear out the reed/suger cane but it just stops the water why?

  • @slypher2005 it could be for a number of reasons. If the irrigation water is still flowing the sugarcane wont break. Also, if you've missed a non-plantable section right at the start, the water will hit the canes too high (it must hit the bottom cane) and they wont break.

The only other thing I can think of is if you're letting out the harvesting water before blocking the irrigation water sometimes the canes don't realise they need to break.

  • Thanks for the tute! Works perfectly with one small tweak.

At 3:21 you say to make the channel 6 long by putting in an extra block. This doesn't work the water won't come down it. You actually have to dig an extra one out (or 2 if you include the extra block) to make it 8 long.

You fixed it in the later part of the vid as can be seen at 6:38, but you must have forgot to mention it :p

Also a 3 high wall isn't enough. Often 1 or 2 bits will fly up onto the top of it. I made a glass roof :/

  • @MrGoatflakes Ah cool, thanks for clearing that up =)

  • @MrGoatflakes frogot to give minecraft virgin. it's 1.8.1 :p

  • @MorningNewsable well it's still working, but is outdated for sure, now that we have pistons =p it sounds to me like your issue is that you either forgot the last non-plantable area OR you're not draining the irrigation water before trying to harvest

  • @777static777 blah blah blah.........its workin now...this video deserve a like...

  • not worked for me...sorry dislike

  • @leonsk33 The only way that this will not work is if you yourself have done something wrong. So, basically, you've just given a video I worked very hard on, in an attempt to show you something you can do in Minecraft, a thumbs down just because YOU made a mistake.

Further, this video was made SIX MONTHS ago and so it's very likely that something could change in an update (and there have been MANY updates since I made this) that would cause it to not work.

    A dislike was not warranted.

  • @777static777

    /watch?v=PXSIYHnd8ZU&feature=g-user-u&context=G25059efUCGXQYbcTJ33ZpWw3lmMfH9diYZdPd_3Qoq-HyX3ZKC8E

How do you figure this farm works?

  • MAKE MORE VIDEOS

  • @noksbrow haha dude, for the last couple of days I've been practically uploading daily =p

  • @777static777 i know but continue for a long time i love ur vids

  • @noksbrow haha wish I could (honestly, I'd do this as a full-time job if I could), just don't have the time at the moment though.

  • my water doesnt go out that far, it stops in the system because its too short

  • @MimitchiTamaTalk if you follow the instructions to the letter, it should work. Although, there are better ways to do this now.

  • @777static777 i did it over and now the middle one is the only one going to the end X_X

  • @MimitchiTamaTalk you'll get it eventually =)

  • Never mind! It worked!! :DD

  • @MimitchiTamaTalk glad to hear it =D

  • thumbs up if u saw that the subscribe was spelt subscirbe. :D

  • see kids, thats what they did before pistons.

  • @devinsean1999 Correct - pistons have made things much easier.

  • Uhm.. Is it just my Minecraft being weird or does the changed waterflow NOT destroy the Sugar Canes? They just block the water in my farm D:

  • @0bliviousZero sounds to me like you aren't blocking the irrigation water when you come to harvest the sugar canes - I didn't do that for my own personal entertainment, you know? =p

To break the canes you MUST first remove the irrigation water (by blocking the stream) and THEN send the harvesting water. This will break the canes

  • @777static777 Oh sweet! Thanks :D

  • @0bliviousZero no worries =)

  • FINALLY A STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL, THANK YOU!!!!

  • @4znKnyt3 no worries =)

  • um, could somebody help me?

im confused on the "casing" part at 6:36? it confused me and i cant figure it out.

  • @NinjaPandaz27 Basically all you need to do is make a stone box around the thing. Make sure it's not cutting off any of the waterworks (there's really no need for it to be anywhere near the canals) and you should be fine. It's such a simple part of the build that I didn't even think to include it in the tutorial - I think the issue is that people are thinking it needs to be more complicated than it actually is.

  • please read this if u cut the water it will destroy it all and then you turn the water on and it will put it all in the collection area

  • @mightybrent008 um... ok?

  • I am envous of Steve, if the monsters don't kill him he is pretty much immortal for age, then he could take technology in his world to god knows what level

  • @xGeordieGaming Yeah, I've been planning on making one of those (and have had a design in my head for it since before pistons went vanilla - it was perhaps the first thing I thought of doing with pistons when I heard about them =p). Thanks for alerting me to this though =)

  • Nevermind about my comment, I got it to work. thanks so much dude!!

  • @RVASProductions Glad to hear you got it to work =) my pleasure mate

  • i did everything you did, and when i did the irrigation thing 8:12, it only went fully down the middle, and the other two sides it stopped after the first change of leveling in the blocks. help?

  • First time I made this farm, I forgot to put dirt between the wooden planks, like you did in 3:26, and the second time I did it puting the dirt and it blocked the water. Maybe it's the problem that people are having. |:

Btw, you tutorial helped me a lot. (:

  • @AruaTorres it's quite possible. Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it =)

  • I'm fairly new to minecraft and i started to attempt this build: my only problem is creating the casing @ 6:36 . I don't really know how to build it (as it looks like you delete dirt blocks to place the stone ones); could you help me please? Much appreciated :)

  • @Korsfestelse The case is relatively straight-forward. Just build a box around the water works, making sure not to cut anything off (you don't even really need to build the case anywhere near the piping)

  • @777static777 Oh right, i see now! Thank's for the tip man. (P.S. Your tutorial is awesome; it's very clear and concise) :D

  • do i have to do the case??

  • @TheCookieSide nope

  • @777static777 i dont know whats wrong but, i did everything u did (without the case) the inrigation water goes all over the place, and the harvesting water doesnt even come out?

  • @TheCookieSide That's really strange. Make sure you watch the video with annotations on - I misplaced a block and used annotations to point out which block it was.

  • @777static777 still nothing dude, the water doesnt reach, i redesigned it on my other channel: PROMinecrafters1, have a look, i deleted the bottom part, if u do watch it go to 1:07

  • @777static777 its TheCookieSide btw XD, the water don't reach, if you want look at my video, i redesigned it deleting the whole bottom part so th water reaches, go to 1:07 to see it

  • @777static777 Yeah, i tried this exactly (without the case), but when I wanted to harvest the sugar canes, they would just block the harvesting water and not break. So I'm guessing that the only way to make an automatic sugar cane farm is to just push the sugar canes with pistons.

  • @b0bsaget007 Nah the water versions do work... it sounds like you may have the harvesting water coming out at the same level as the base sugar cane OR you may not be blocking off the irrigation water.

  • @777static777 Oh... I didn't know that the irrigation water prevented the sugar canes from being destroyed. I'll try it now.

  • @b0bsaget007 Yep, this style of farm works because sugarcane can't grow if it isn't being irrigated so they should break the moment you remove the irrigation streams. However, most of the time the blocks wont update and the sugarcane will stay. The harvesting water forces the canes to update (and therefore break) as well as bringing the drops to you.

  • @777static777 Yeah, that was my problem. Thanks for the help! (I also made the water control semi-automatic to make it easier.)

  • @b0bsaget007 No worries =) yeah, I plan on doing a bunch of tutorials on piston controlled farms soon and this will be one of them =)

  • It wount work, i think the problem is when i put the stone around the 'bulding', you skipped that. Could you make a video where you show that?

  • @gwnvdfun I skipped it because it's extremely straight forward - just make a cube around the water works. You don't need to cover up any of the tubes individually (in fact, if you do that you're likely to do something wrong and cut off a water stream) instead, just make a case around the entire thing. This design is out-dated though, and I might do a tutorial soon on a pistonised sugarcane farm.

  • You were very clear until you added the case...I can't tell what to cover on the inside but I'll just play around with it and figure it out

  • @nosense82 The reason I didn't cover it on the video is because I thought it was pretty straight forward and would be a waste of time. Basically you don't want to touch ANY of the water works with the case - the top of the case (the floor for when you're getting to the water-control thingo) should be at the height of the figure-8 we made and extend horizontally to the sides and front of the water-works section where it then becomes vertical walls. So, it's just a simple cube.

  • You skipped a pretty important step in which you knocked out two dirt blocks beside and diagonally behind the third set of wood blocks that you placed. Might want to add a chat bubble in which you explain that.

  • My bad. It turns out that 1.7 makes water not as far-reaching as it used to be. Shame. But yeah, it's fixable.

  • @Mssngvwl Really? all of the physics seem to be the same to me =\

  • @Mssngvwl ...I don't remember ever knocking out dirt blocks where you mention.

  • @TopMinecraftBuilds thanks mate, much appreciated =)

  • @TopMinecraftBuilds hmm unfortunately I don't think that's the issue (that would be quite an easy issue to get around) but it might be something to do on my next application just in case. I don't think Docm did this when applying for his partnership so... Also, youtube usually tells you why you didn't get accepted and the message said that I didn't have "a large enough viewership", which is why I think it's a glitch.

  • @TopMinecraftBuilds Haha yeah the strong accents are hilarious (even I think so =p) but mine's not that strong. I have, a couple of times actually... I have a feeling that my last rejection was a youtube glitch as Docm got accepted with almost exactly the same statistics. However, there's not a whole lot I have can do about it except for wait until August 25th when I can apply again...

  • @TopMinecraftBuilds ...you do know that us Aussies don't say "dos" right? Dos just an out dated way of navigating your computer. Also, no Aussie (aside from Steve Irwin) has ever seriously said crikey in the last couple decades.

  • @TopMinecraftBuilds ...you, sir, are a tool

  • Can u make a vid on how to make the cover? I made it right up to that point, but it wont split into all of the harvesting streams.

  • @shotgun5250 The cover is easy - just build a case around the waterworks making sure not to cut any of them off. Besides, this design is out-dated now that pistons are available. Might make a tutorial on how to make one of these farms using pistons instead.

  • @777static777 Yea, I experimented a little with it and made my own variation of this design using pistons and redstone to make it easier to get all the sugarcane without having to go all the way up to the top! Pretty sweet design tho. made it with a decorative water scheme and stuff!

  • thanks so much it worked perfectly

  • @xEpIcCoMmAnDox my pleasure

  • @xEpIcCoMmAnDox how to, mine just goes around the canes :@

  • Couldn't u use this for a wheat farm or no cause the water is running no still

  • @lv61inrunescape This should work perfectly for a wheat farm as well - some people have actually put up videos on youtube of working wheat farms that use this technique.

  • am i the only one to notice the pig doing a 360 at 1:02 ?

  • @tylertrock well, the first one to comment on it at least =p

  • @777static777 xD i watched it to make sure b4 i made a dumb comment like all the other ppl :P

  • nice skin

  • @fahadcool07 Thanks dude =)

  • hey man nice video :D

Mind If you like for a like?

i have a video of an Auto farm too in my Favorited in my Channel. Please Like that video :3 its my twin brother's video.

    Thanks :D

  • great video

  • @MrGravenor14 Thanks mate =)

  • @777static777 ok but id like to show you some of our other creations :(

  • @TheFIRETRUCK2121 Sure, I'd be happy to see them at some stage =)

  • @777static777 i made oneof these with pistons if u want to see it u can join my server

  • @TheFIRETRUCK2121 Thanks for the offer man, but I know precisely how I'd choose to make one of these using pistons =)

  • thanks helped me a lot

  • @jabbawockeez78 Not a problem =)

  • @777static777 can you also make one with pistons from 1.7.2

  • @jabbawockeez78 Yep, I plan to make pistonised versions of just about every type of farm you can think of and do a tutorial on them =)

  • @777static777 okay i'll wait for your upcoming videos until

  • with 1.7 pistons and a timer, you CAN make this fully automatic.

  • @mrBorkD Yep, I'm well aware of this. Of course, at the time I made this I had no idea that 1.7 was coming out and that pistons would be added.

  • @777static777 yeah, i thought you'd know but it was just a heads up to other viewers :)

  • @mrBorkD that was thoughtful of you =)

  • 02:35 Magic !

  • I think the problem is, that water is not flowing as far or as powerfully as when you made your video, I'm on 1.6.6, you're on 1.5. Needed to let the side channels water drop 1 block earlier and still does not reach collection point by a couple blocks, (on irrigation stream) middle one was alright after removing a glass block at the start. checking harvest stream when more are brown (testing with wheat)

  • @victornun147 I was on 1.5 when I made this farm, yes. But I have seen a working version in 1.7 as well.

  • @777static777 yea sure, just meant i think that's why it's not working exactly as u built it in this oldish video. I got it workin with minimal fuss no prob, thanks for the tut

  • @victornun147 Awesome man, glad to hear it =)

  • Static, can you help me figure out how to use pistons now on this so we do not have to climb up every time?

  • @shoedawg620 I'll be doing a tutorial on that in the next couple of weeks I think =)

  • @Velzish I'm not sure I have the save file to this world any more. However, in the next few weeks I'll be uploading a tutorial on how to make one of these using pistons - it will be MUCH easier =)

  • Awesome idea but unfortunately, after doing the whole thing twice, I can confirm what others have previously said. The middle "grow" channel work and the harvest channels are working perfectly. In the other hand the 2 side "grow" channels stop right where the glass starts. And yes I have watched your video with annotations on, therefore removed that extra block.

Thanks and looking forward for a solution!

  • @PedoWookie I would have to personally look at the farm you've built and figure out what's been done wrong because you'll also be able to see by looking through the comments that this has worked for the majority of people and (as you can see in the video) has worked for me =p Nevertheless, it will become much easier to make this kind of farm after the 1.7 patch comes out later today. I'll release a tutorial in the next few weeks on a version of this farm made with pistons.

  • Thanks man. This has helped me ALOT.

u finally tought me how to farm Papyrus/Sugarcane!!

    Happy Face :D

    You got mail.

    +1 subscriber and +1 like

  • @Handrane Good to hear the tutorial was helpful man, and thanks for subscribing =)

  • @777static777 No Problem =D

Hey do you have a multiplayer server?

  • Thanks man. This has helped me ALOT.

u finally tought me how to farm Papyrus/Sugarcane!!

    Happy Face :D

  • lol i made this with 7 tiers

  • @BradVLiam Haha wow, that's huge!

  • @777static777 thanks man! i finally built my 20 tier sugar cane farm man! thanks so much :D

  • @maxellaz No worries mate =) People are really building this thing huge!

  • Pistons will make a great addition to this when they come out.

  • @Tomm0505 I know, I can't wait =D it will make the waterworks SO much easier!

  • hey, awesome job making this

I tried to recreate this in my world, but after i poured out the farming water, it all worked awesome apart from the side two channels: they stop one block short of the final squares...

    please advise! thanks a ton

  • @LamBeBunny Thanks mate =)

My suggestion would be that you might have watched this video with annotations turned off. I placed one block where I shouldn't have in this tutorial and I point it out using an annotation. Keep an eye out for the annotation, remove that block, and the farm should be right as rain =)

  • u said 11x24 but u have a 9x24 wtf

  • @MrCheatmaster987 You're not including the walls on the outside of the single block wide tiers. Those are necessary unless you want the water (and the sugarcane from those tiers) to go everywhere =p

  • i think i screwed up on the cover do you have to have a cover

  • @TheScruffylevy Nope a cover isn't necessary, it just neatens up the design a little bit.

  • i copied the design exactly but when i want to poor the water it didnt work wtf

  • @TheScruffylevy Make sure you watch the video with annotations enabled - I accidentally placed a block somewhere that messes up the water streams and I point out which block it is using annotations.

  • thx subbed:) already made one and i dont even have sugar canes yet:P

  • @phoenix7540 Thanks for subscribing =D haha well I'm pretty sure that this farm could also be used with wheat, though I haven't tested that yet. Once you find your first sugarcanes, you'll start getting more pretty quickly ; )

  • @777static777 yeah my farm is almost full now:)

  • thanks this video really help me out,

whats your name in minecraft? :)

  • @xTomatoz Good to hear people are getting some use out of this video =) shaunstatic

  • @777static777 Okej, hope ill see you somtime in-game :D

  • do ill subcribed a like love you tut

  • @codchampftw Thanks man, glad you found it useful =)

  • I think the water principles changed, the current isn't even and the sides don't harvest :/ Any fix?

  • @DaBestFilmsEva My only suggestion is make sure you watch the tutorials with annotations enabled - I placed a block where I shouldn't (which will mess up the water currents) and point out which one it is with annotations. Beyond that, the farm should work..

  • @DaBestFilmsEva I can confirm what DaBestFilmsEva said.. though the changes to make it work aren't difficult to figure out. Don't encase the water mechanism right away. Make the water "T" at the top and test it. Make the changes to both the "grow" and "harvest" streams while everything's exposed. The side "grow" streams need to be extended to the edges of the build before the water drops a block. The harvest streams need a wall behind them.

  • is tere also a way to farm it without having to replant?

  • @DoggieVlogs Not as far as I've seen... Pistons may change this - although I can't think of a design off the top of my head, even with pistons, that would allow you to harvest the sugarcane and move it to a single collection point, without the need to replant, unless the broken canes land on top of the extended pistons.

At this stage, the only way to harvest sugar cane without needing to replant it is manually (walking around and punching the parts of the cane you want to break off)

  • @777static777 uhu the last thing is what i do.. i kinda farm at small scale, so i have the amount i need

stilleI get loads of sugar cane by using a small area

harvesting takes a short time, while this method of harvesting and replanting takes more time i guess.

  • @DoggieVlogs Only if done on a small scale. This farm benefits from something known as "economies of scale". Because it's using a larger farming area and thus able to grow more sugarcane, it becomes a lot quicker and easier to harvest this way than to go around and manually harvest

  • @777static777 i guess thats true but i get more than i need from that small farm

  • Cmon guys , like this vid!! Its great , and it takes like .5 seconds.

  • @imapallylol2 Thanks for the support mate =)

  • Could you replace the sugar cane's with seeds?

    To grow wheat?

    Would it then still work?

  • @mickakamickie I haven't tested this, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work =)

  • @777static777 Ok ty, i will try it out :)
