@joshanator1 Thank you for this stereotypical inflammatory YouTube comment. It encouraged me to look this song up on Wikipedia. To my great surprise and horror, Wikipedia agrees with me that it's Toby Keith.
Hop Sing would not have been such a misunderstood character if the writers of Bonanza had not given him such a stupid-sounding un-Chinese name! He should open a can of kung-fu on yo' butts!
Brilliant!!! Now, is Hollywood ready for another retro remake of a sixties TV series with a version of Bonanza? New soundtrack by Toby Keith, and a Hop Sing who comes out of the kitchen and kicks a few butts which really need it? I'm sure there is more than one martial arts artist/actor who is up to the challenge. I can just imagine some of the rest of the cast...
Great video! Hop Sing is one of the most unused and unappreciated character in Bonanza. That guy had some funny lines and i wished they used him more.
The character of Hop Sing was one of the best parts of the classic TV Western "Bonanza". There have never been very many positive Asian characters in the history of TV. Few people know the producers wanted to give Hop Sing his own spin off show. It was going to be a comedy Western wherein ol' Hoppy moves to San Francisco to work at the Wong Brothers Chinese Laundry. It was going to be called "TWO WONGS CAN MAKE It WHITE!".
I never really liked this clip in the beginning and I thought it was funny how someone made one entire video for Hop Sing. But....it's actually grown on me. You did a reallly good job putting the specific clips to the lyrics. It's funny!
Oh yeah, I think I saw that one, bout 3 months ago, I guess. It was the one with that lady selling Hoss the violin, and Hoss played really bad, right?
Oh yeah! LOL. I love the part where Joe and Ben are riding though the woods and discover Hoss playing the violin. They first think it's a mountain lion, then Joe says, "No mountain lion I've ever heard sounds like that." Or somethin' like that. And then they burst out laughing when they see Hoss, screechin' away on his violin!
Oh my Gosh! This was so awesome. Poor Hop Sing, he is always shoved to the back behind the Cartwrights, Candy, Griff King, and others. He will always be an awesome cook! I love that song! I always said that it could use a video to back it up. This was perfect. I love Bonanza
Gosh..this was wonderful! I visited the Ponderosa set in Nevada a few years back. It's ashame is is now closed. These times of TV were the the best times. Thanks for posting this work of video art.
I visited the Ponderosa set as well. We were there in 2004. I really wish the man who owns it would open it up again, so that fans of the show could go back. i have been a fan for a while--about 3 years. It is the best show on TV today. This year, 2009, is the 50th anniversary of the show! Yay! :)
oh my GOODNESS!!!! THAT WAS GREAT!!! funniest vid I may have ever seen :D best editing to the song...just wonderful...my colleagues and I have had a extra busy/ hard week...I may just send this to all of them...they can't help but SMILE !!!!!!
To ekocentric: The problem today is that people have too many choices. Back then you looked forward to your favorite shows once a week and sat down as a family and watched them. Now you can record or Teevo it and watch it later, no big deal. I find myself doing the same thing, but I still enjoy watching when it airs to know I'm enjoying it with others at the same time.
Hop Sing's part was the only wrinkle in this show.
As a minority I know that actors like: Stepnfetchit, Buckwheat, Jay Silverheels, Butterfly McQueen, Hattie McDaniels, and many more had no choice but to play the corny parts that they were given.
If "Hop sing" and these others were that dumb they wouldn't have remembered their lines and get acting jobs when the majority of American's couldn't get their feet in Hollywoodland's doors.
Great Job! I LOVE IT! I too wish television would have stayed to this kind of Love of family. Where there were morals and Love of God and Country. I also agree they could have used Hop Sing much More!!!!
60's television was great but you could not just turn on quality shows on command. The best programs were on only at specific times. On saturdays and sundays you only had a few hours to watch.
Too many reruns and commercials and the worse part was at midnight the t.v. execs had the nerve to ask you if you knew where your kids were?? Probably trying to find cable...Lol.
On the same hand we were able to enjoy the technology that some of our ancestors could never have.
Loved it and how nice for someone to recognise Hop Sing's worth. The Cartwrights were terrific, but Hop Sing held them all together, doing all the cooking, cleaning, and the washing and mending of all their ripped and bloodstained clothes LOL
Don't you just love the guy!! There could not have been a more perfect house manager for those Cartwright boys. He lights up the scene every time he's on camera.
Fantastic edit job, your Greyness!! Thanks for the hard work.
Hop Sing is pretty cool. I'm glad to see a tribute on YouTube :)

Yup, that's the one! I believe it gets so bad, Joe and Ben actually slept out in the barn to try and escape from the horrible sounds. LOL

Oh yeah! LOL. I love the part where Joe and Ben are riding though the woods and discover Hoss playing the violin. HannahBonanza96 2 years ago

"Mr.Cartwright, I quit." (Say it in a funny Chinese accent, and its hilarious!)
