Technical skill doesn't hold a flame to playing with passion, which every member of The Floyd did, which is why they touched so many people. If you want a great technical drummer, listen to Neil Pert. Probably among the best technical drummers out there...but not a lick of passion in his playing. Played the exact drum solo live in his entire career...that's just plain boring.

He is the longest serving member of Floyd, also avoided both the path Syd fell into, and the bad vibes Roger was throwing around toward David and especially Richard (Who he fired). P.S i believe Gilmour wasn't even rocking out all his solos in the late 80's/90. Guess age is a bitch, but youd know yea? lol

There are technically better drummers, but Mason's no slouch. That said, he was the drummer who helped define what the Floyd did. You could say that about any of them. Together, they were untouchable.

@MissEgasMoniz It's not all about technical advancements, it's also about accomplishments and feel. Peyton Manning's greatest plays are just precise, he doesn't have to run around and do all that fancy stuff like Mike Vick for example. But you can't deny Manning is one of the greatest.

I actually prefer 5th gear. Granted TG introduced me to British Auto TV, but TG spends too much time doing stupid stunts, and quite frankly, being disingenuous. You really have to take TG with a grain of salt, entertainment always trumps true automobile enthusiasm.
