Just FYI it wasn't between 500 and 700. It was 705 confirmed 742 claimed. This is verifiable, look it up if you are questioning his record.
and it wasn't that he was shot in the jaw....another countersniper finally shot him and in the words of his colleagues who found him "blew half his head off". He died shortly afterwards.......60 mutha-F@$%^ing years later at age 92!!!

The truth is that Häyhä killed more than is claimed because those kills announced that are a bit more than 500 are confirmed kills. If i remember correctly Häyhä got an kill confirmer after shooting about 20 red army soldiers because of his great success and positive "propaganda"

Let's shed some light on this. First Simo was a distinguished hunter. Now Russians didn't care for tactics. They sent wave after wave hoping the defenses would crumble.
Now most soldiers were forced into service, most were not experienced. Nor did they volunteer. It's reasonable.
However Vasili's story is reported as Propaganda. Just to boost morals of the Russian Troops that were Stalingrad.
