I with my family was present the day this was recorded at the Sarasavia studios in the early 70's. They also recorded Udarata Neeliya and Sudu Menike. We were teenage girls and was so excited. Clarence and Sheila lived in Nugegoda close to where we lived and we used to meet them all the time. Years later we met Clarence again in New York where he had a concert. Our brother played in the band. Sadly it was the last time we would meet him. May his soul rest in peace and long live his music.

I really don't get why the so called new singers never make music as good as this. Clarence was truly a god when it came to composing, singing, playing instruments, I dont think that there is even one song of his which didnt become a hit. I truly appriciate what he's done to the music industry in SL.
The so called new comers can't even think of coming close to Clarence. He was truly a god! Thank you Clarence for composing such great music which are still living in our hearts!
number 1208 your comment on clarance as he is a gay or bi is quiete nasty and unplesant thing to say, whats wrong with being gay or lesbien?people does choose that, thats the way they have born, you should'nt say things in public what you think as people can judge your mentality by that, clarance was madly in love with his lovely wife sheila and have a wonderful daughter!for your information he composed and sang muthumanike song for her !good luck man!get a grip
Always nice to hear the original version. I still remember the day his death was announced and I was somewhere near Kollupitiya on my way to office. I felt really sad as Clarence was one of my favourit singers. I sometimes wonder whether he was adequately recognised for his contribution to our music industry. Good job once again Jude.
Thanks for the lovely comment Janaka. I too remember the day when someone broke the news to me of Clarence's death, in London. I have had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with the maestro a few times in SL in my younger days and also met him at a show in London too. You are absolutely right, he was never recognised for his contribution to our music. He invented the style and all others are cashing in on it.
The lyrics of this song exemplifies the richness and beauty of the Sinhala language. I hope the present generation of Sri Lankan song writers can learn how to write meaningful lyrics that exploits the literary richness of the language from songs like these instead of writing songs with lyrics that only keep repeating the bunch of words! Thanks Clarence for your invaluable contribution...
What a great song..."Kadasuriduni"...what a song...beautiful...thankx for uploading the one of the greatest song of Late Mr Clarence Wijewardena......
Couldn't agree more. At the time, although I had heard other Clarence's songs thro' Moonstones etc, nothing hit me like this one!! It was an instant hit !!
Yes, I do have Udarata Niliya original. Will upload soon. Many Thanks.
Thanks for the lovely comment. I still grieve his loss. He was my favourite, and he gave immense joy to me through his music when I was growing up as a kid in SL. May he rest in peace !!

Dear Jude
When I saw this song I was so happy and I listened to this song twice...Clarence was a genius and we are so unlucky to have lost him at that age...
You had some very rare photoes of the group and thanks for sharing with us and going down memory lane...
