Safari is just an application, the iPhone is connected to the world either via 3G (new generation internet) or via another internet (when 3g is not available or you have it turned off) which is what older mobiles run on, it's called GSM internet. (I think it's a step up from GPRS)

u have to have a wireless router to get on the safari or youtube or whatever and sometimes you have to put in a password for the network on the ipod touch or iphone. that meens u have 2 put in ur router password. and no you dont pay for internet or network u just need a WIRELESS router. normally around $60
