@Antiam12 No, sounds bad. Don't get me wrong, it's working alright and all, but an Intel i5 2500K (four cores @ 3,2GHz) is better than the Bulldozer FX-8120 which runs at 3,1GHz. Imagine then how much better an i7 970 (six cores @ 3,2GHz) or an i7 3960X (six cores @ 3,9GHz) would be.

Quad core is your best bet by now. Some people choose to have 6 cores, but for now that's a bit useless. For a quad core processor: Desktops should have around 4 Ghz for top notch gaming performance, and laptops should have 2.0-2.9.
i was thinking of buying an acer aspire laptop. is has AMD Phenom II Quad Core prosessor. is that going to be god for gaming ? like for cod and such games
I'm going to up grade my Duo core E8500 to Quad core Q9650, but the price has almost not changed. WTF! Can get the I7 for same price and it's like 5 stages ahead of the Q9650. Intel drop the prices to match the times PLEASE! LOL!
i have a pentium 2 duo and its laggy for sc 2 im thinking about i5 is that any good? but those quad cores sound epic! how much are they? and are they any good for starcraft 2?
@brandonio91 ya i know my laptop is effing weird i tried to pull it apart my self but i have to take the sides off without snaping them.... so i'll just leave it to the pros lol
Ok so i want a sager NP5160 to play modern games (post 2009) on medium settings at decent framerate, but also need to keep battery life over 3 hours, which is better, a higher clocked dual core i5-2520M, 2.5-3.2GHz, or lower clocked i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz? will i see a good improvement on games by going quad? will it be a real drain on battery life? what if i upgraded the card later (sagers let you do that) would that kill battery life? thx for your advice :)
more cores= better efficiency at processing multiple threads; that said, more cores is really only better if any particular application sends more processing threads to the CPU, of which, more and more applications are doing these days. So in conclusion, a CPU with more cores will GENERALLY outperform a cpu with less cores but a higher clock speed (e.g. phenom x6 1050t > phenom x4 965)
the benefit of multi-core quickly peters out in more general useage - of course there will always be a minimal percent that benefit from them - should we all be 'forced' to buy them because of the hard-core? if intel/AMD endofline dual-core purely so they can make some radical claims in a quad core benchmarks, does that/will that benefit the masses? Will it be the same when they are encouraging us to buy 32cores, when the 8 core dinorsaurs still run internet exploder 10 happily enough?
The more cores the better but make sure you have an acceptable frequency.... having 100000 cores at .00000009mhz does you no good lol
aim for at least 2.0ghz, if you have to go lower then its ok but a lot of the higher end games require 2.0ghz and going lower will affect how long your pc will remain useful for you. The higher you go past 2.0ghz (obviously) the better.
yeah and probably soon enough they're going to give us a procie which has a 1000 cores on new tweaked speeds. @hotpot71 roflmao you are the same clown trying to tell me that multicore cpu is slower than single core. do yourself a favor and upgrade buddy. I have no doubt back in its day that pc was a beast (not kidding). however most application development is taking advantage of multi-threaded applications. Go with a multi core (make sure to get one with a good frequency or it will run single threaded apps slow)
I just got a 2.1ghz quad core laptop and I am loving it... good luck :)
i was not saying a multi core cpu is slower than single core, i was saying a quad core with HT will not run like a 8 core cpu. It will run better that a stock quad but not like a 8 core
@hotpot71 ok I understand what you are saying and there is no other way to say it, your wrong. look into what hyper threading and hyper transport is... it creates virtual cores so that you can double the threads. So a quad core HT has 8 threads.
but a virtual core is not a real core and relay as no power and just run's in a real core.
if a quad core can run 4 programs as max i take a quad HT can run 8? NO because there is just 4 core and they have the share out the power over the load
@hotpot71 power is not the end all factor you need to look at. i think you are getting too hung up on power and ignoring newer technology that exploits weaknesses in previous cpu's.
Hyper-threading works by duplicating certain sections of the processor—those that store the architectural state—but not duplicating the main execution resources
In doing this they basically made enough of a core to simulate having double the cores but reduce the need for as much power.
That guy looks like he knows his stuff so well that if he told me to throw my 6gb RAM away and replace it with 64mb I'd think it would be a good idea.
@Verification11 yes you can, just make sure that you get a processor with the same socket type as what your motherboard will take, otherwise it would simply not fit.
@meggicxiaobaobei lol, they already have 100 core processors but its like 1165165161$ so dunno, maybe it will come to stores withing the next 10 years.

@meggicxiaobaobei I'm not sure about that. Intel SAID 4 years ago that they'd have an 80-core processor in 5 years. Though, that was probably for servers. But 80 cores is insane. Also, I don't think we'll ever have 14 cores. Or 18. I think it'll be in sets of 4. Or just skip up to even more by the time we get past a certain number.
dude the new sandy bridge shows us the way of the future as well as amd new cpu's..........all gpu's and cpu's will eventually be combined and allow each other the sames access to each others cores e.g the latest ATI gpu's have 1200 cores and Nvidia have 400-500 cores.....now this coupled with dedicated gpu power and integrated cpu will eventually over the next 3-4 years lead to a trually unified architecture.
however this technology is currently underpowered :(
@sorr535771 CPU cores and GPU cores are very different, though. But in the end, it's all about what the final result is for gamers. And whether it's ATI or NVIDIA, or AMD or Intel, so long as we get some awesome games in the future, I'm not complaining. That's what gaming's all about, anyways.
@GeekingForJesus yes different at the moment, lets face it the onboard graphics are no where near a dedicated performance at the moment, however the development is going along the lines of an APU (not gpu or cpu) APU stands for Accellerated Processing Unit and will combine the best of both worlds e.g the massivly parralel processing of a gpu with the low power calculations of the cpu with shared memory banks and 3d micro architecture ;) bit of inside knowledge lol
what type of mobile computer is good for every day use like movies, fast internet, non lag small time gaming around 250 to 500 dollars with 2gb of ram about 250 gb of memory.
@a56b2 well for non lag gaming it gets expensive and complicated but for fast internet and and hd movies you can get some really nice computers for less money. it depends on what you mean by small time gaming.
@a56b2 Unfortunately I find laptops rather lacking when it comes to gaming (seems much harder to keep them cool and thus performance degrades (at least for mine)). You need to make sure you get a dedicated gpu for any type of gaming, otherwise it's going to be a pain in your ass. As for what to pick, Athlon/Phenom II (not intel since you something under $500).
I just want to ask that I have an Intel (R) Atom cpu 230@1.6GHz(2cpu's)
My question is this that Is this cpu a dual core, and is it efficient for games... More over I have 1 GB DDR2 Ram... And There is a simple pci slot, not PCI-Express... So Kindly help me whether I should buy another Core To Duo, or simply buy PCI Graphics card,,, THanks... ALLAH Bless you
@d0ck47 I use an E8400 @ 4GHz and it plays awesome. =) But if you're planning to get a new one, I advice to get an i7 / i5. It's a little more expensive, but it's worth it. ;)
Which is better or more superior, Dual Core or Core 2 Duo? Because I m a bit confuse between the two, are they different or the same?. I m preparing my PC for SC2 Thanks in advance.
@dfool06 Plz if you have any info on whats good to run SC2 plz write back, my computer is lagging and even if i set all my graphics and sound settings to low it lags in fact it even sends you a message. I play the game regardless i just wish there was a way to play it a little smoother. I have plenty of ram not sure on memory. i cleaned out my computer went to their support site. Contacted intel and even upgraded my driverX or something like that and still lag.
@wellirule Well on beta I have the same lagging problems. What I did was upgrade my ram from 1gb to 3g (added another 2 gb) and had my OS run on dual boot (XP sp3 to support still my other older games and 7 for SC2. Check out the official site of SC2 for the systems requirements, check if your video card can support the game. Or email blizzard tech support directly. That's what I did.
Or just by a new rig and sell your old one. It will save you a lot of trouble imo. :)
I'm using a dual core 3.4 GHz w/ 4 Gh of fast ram to run Crysis. Works really well but I want to upgrade to a Quad Core as soon as I finish paying off some stuff
i wish i had a core like you guy's !!! i have the stupid Core 2Dou 2.6 Ghz .. i have A BIG BIG PROBLEM whene i play GTA IV, its sucks !!! even Blur is like counter strike when i play it with this sucks core :(
is intel Dual Core, E6500 2,93 GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB Cache good enough to play high quality games or atleast the new games that comes or should i clock it atleast to 3,0ghz? give me your thought please
@PaladinSoyasaus eh. maybe im wrong. but the only i5's ie seen are dual core. and anyway. you could get a more powerful AMD Phenom II X4 for less than an intel i5. thats wat im going with. the phenom II x4 956 black. 3.4 ghz quad core for $185.
@yellowcard1494 haha im agreed, don't like nVidia so much either, at the time they aren't so good, but i use ATI dude, may be wierd that a ATI Screen Card works better with Intel than with AMD, but its not so much diffrence...
I think the Intel i7 960 is the best that money can buy, for now anyway. Ive got it with the alienware Area 51 ALX only a month ago, bit expensive though. But well recommended if you want a good processor for gaming. Though you still need a good graphics card and some RAM, say 2-3Gb +, for some bigger games coming out
@LaBotellona08 nah. the AMD Phenom II X4 965 black has a core clock of 3.4 ghz for 185 bux. now thats the best deal on an equivalent processor to the i7s. i think the 960's are 6 core though. am i right? and even then, no one really needs 6 cores unless you wanna do some MAJOR multi-tasking.
Of course, yes, the SKULLTRAIL can work with 2 Intel Xeon processors, but It costs like a car xD!! It costs many money, I prefer Core I7, because it uses DDR3 Memory on triple channel.
@jordan010203 you know. you could get an amd that will work with ddr3 for less than an i7. lol. why does anyone buy intel anymore? i just dont get it.
There are motherboards that can hold up to.. I think 32 processors. But they are for servers... my dad has got a dual Xeon e5440, I've seen it and it's really cool.
When I run Bioshock 2 with mi core 2 quad, it uses the 4 cores (or it`s my imagination?? xD) I say because I saw it in the taskmanager from windows =)
i have no idea what the fuck cores are, but i just got a quad core cause it sounded badass.... i play World of warcraft, and im gonna start cod MW2 soon. Can someone tell me a little bit more about this??
Cores are just the technology on the CPU that helps it handle processes. Each core handles processes like data being sent back and forth. Processes and tasks get done much quicker with say, a quad core CPU (4 cores working together) than a computer with one or two cores.
or you could get the AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana and unlock the fourth core to save some money

what type of mobile computer is good for every day use like movies, fast internet, non lag small time gaming around 250 to 500 dollars with 2gb of ram about 250 gb of memory.
a56b2 1 year ago
@a56b2 well for non lag gaming it gets expensive and complicated but for fast internet and and hd movies you can get some really nice computers for less money. it depends on what you mean by small time gaming.
KnUpRoX 1 year ago

Is there a really good cpu or processor for anything like GTA IV on pc?
d0ck47 1 year ago
@d0ck47 I use an E8400 @ 4GHz and it plays awesome. =) But if you're planning to get a new one, I advice to get an i7 / i5. It's a little more expensive, but it's worth it. ;)

@d0ck47 y would u ask that? the game sucks lol

Hi there, I have a question.
Which is better or more superior, Dual Core or Core 2 Duo? Because I m a bit confuse between the two, are they different or the same?. I m preparing my PC for SC2 Thanks in advance.
dfool06 1 year ago
@dfool06 no they arent the same dude, core 2 duo is the newer version of dual core but they pretty much do the same thing
xblfanatic360 1 year ago
@dfool06 Plz if you have any info on whats good to run SC2 plz write back, my computer is lagging and even if i set all my graphics and sound settings to low it lags in fact it even sends you a message. I play the game regardless i just wish there was a way to play it a little smoother. I have plenty of ram not sure on memory. i cleaned out my computer went to their support site. Contacted intel and even upgraded my driverX or something like that and still lag.
wellirule 1 year ago
@wellirule Well on beta I have the same lagging problems. What I did was upgrade my ram from 1gb to 3g (added another 2 gb) and had my OS run on dual boot (XP sp3 to support still my other older games and 7 for SC2. Check out the official site of SC2 for the systems requirements, check if your video card can support the game. Or email blizzard tech support directly. That's what I did.
Or just by a new rig and sell your old one. It will save you a lot of trouble imo. :)

You can get a fast (or highly overclocked) Dual Core CPU and you can easily get performance similar to a quad core (even outperform some).

yeaahhh!!! I have Intel i5 Quad Core Processor!!! yeah i knew it was best!!!
PaladinSoyasaus 1 year ago
@PaladinSoyasaus i5 is only dual core buddy.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
@yellowcard1494 wrong, search after i5 then
PaladinSoyasaus 1 year ago
@PaladinSoyasaus eh. maybe im wrong. but the only i5's ie seen are dual core. and anyway. you could get a more powerful AMD Phenom II X4 for less than an intel i5. thats wat im going with. the phenom II x4 956 black. 3.4 ghz quad core for $185.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
@yellowcard1494 sure, but im a "Intel-er" and btw both my screencard and mother board works best with Intel
PaladinSoyasaus 1 year ago
@PaladinSoyasaus oh well. nvidia is terribad in my opinion(im guessing thats what you have).
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
@yellowcard1494 haha im agreed, don't like nVidia so much either, at the time they aren't so good, but i use ATI dude, may be wierd that a ATI Screen Card works better with Intel than with AMD, but its not so much diffrence...
PaladinSoyasaus 1 year ago
@yellowcard1494 also, i think they come standard as dual core, but are unlockable to quad core.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
quad core is the one for me i play FC 2 Crysis warhead Crysis Crysis Wars GTA 4 Flight Simulator X and more games also do heavy duty programing

I think the Intel i7 960 is the best that money can buy, for now anyway. Ive got it with the alienware Area 51 ALX only a month ago, bit expensive though. But well recommended if you want a good processor for gaming. Though you still need a good graphics card and some RAM, say 2-3Gb +, for some bigger games coming out
LaBotellona08 1 year ago
@LaBotellona08 nah. the AMD Phenom II X4 965 black has a core clock of 3.4 ghz for 185 bux. now thats the best deal on an equivalent processor to the i7s. i think the 960's are 6 core though. am i right? and even then, no one really needs 6 cores unless you wanna do some MAJOR multi-tasking.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
im probbly getting tri core
superelmopro96 1 year ago
@superelmopro96 why would u pay the extra 20 bucks for a quad core? makes no sense to me.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
@yellowcard1494 But isnt that extra $20 getting you twice the power?

@benneb07 i mis-typed my comment. i meant to say why WOULDNT you pay the extra 20 bucks.

umm... are there mobos that have can have 2 processors?? :> and how much?? cause in servers they have more than 1 processors
kurogane2x 2 years ago
Servers mostly have 16cores
NoneImparticular 2 years ago
are there companies that sell mobos that can accomodate 2 proccesors?? and will it be hard to find one?? and is used in a normal desktop pc :D
kurogane2x 2 years ago
Of course, yes, the SKULLTRAIL can work with 2 Intel Xeon processors, but It costs like a car xD!! It costs many money, I prefer Core I7, because it uses DDR3 Memory on triple channel.
=)
jordan010203 1 year ago
@jordan010203 you know. you could get an amd that will work with ddr3 for less than an i7. lol. why does anyone buy intel anymore? i just dont get it.
yellowcard1494 1 year ago
There are motherboards that can hold up to.. I think 32 processors. But they are for servers... my dad has got a dual Xeon e5440, I've seen it and it's really cool.
NoneImparticular 1 year ago
wow..... is it true that some cost like a car?? XD
kurogane2x 1 year ago
@kurogane2x no. only servers can have a dual processor setup.

When I run Bioshock 2 with mi core 2 quad, it uses the 4 cores (or it`s my imagination?? xD) I say because I saw it in the taskmanager from windows =)
jordan010203 2 years ago
i have no idea what the fuck cores are, but i just got a quad core cause it sounded badass.... i play World of warcraft, and im gonna start cod MW2 soon. Can someone tell me a little bit more about this??
MighteyWhitey13 2 years ago
Cores are just the technology on the CPU that helps it handle processes. Each core handles processes like data being sent back and forth. Processes and tasks get done much quicker with say, a quad core CPU (4 cores working together) than a computer with one or two cores.

NOW THERES 4 ON 1 CHIP=quad core!
dual core is a real 2X CPU unlike pentium4. think cylinders under cars hoods!!!!!!
