@DefectedSalvations i have a tutorial coming very soon which will help you tune your speakers to your room using an analyser.. hold tight on that one.. it will be ready within a couple of weeks!
Also I understand cutting out the fat in each sound .I usually will cut off all sounds to 100 and leave the bass and kick open for tweaks . Kick I end up boosting around 60-65 then cut 65-150 . Bass I will cut 60-65 and boost if need 150 . I also cut the lowend bass 10-30 right off or do a small cut on each sound . When I listen to Pro trance I find the bass is so deep if I mixed the track I would end up cutting out the bass ... That leads me to believe my room acoustics suck
like when listening to the track the bass sound to thick and heavy ... So I may need to move my studio to another room with less in it then build some basstraps .
@DefectedSalvations if you have bass issues it's not just the level of the bass guitar that will be impossible to judge, but also the amount of bass content on every instrument and vocal will be impossible to judge. Imagine that bass is the foundation of your house. if it is not rock solid nothing will sit correctly on top of it and your mix will 'fall down'. The solution is to install lots of bass traps to absorb the excess bass energy in your room.
for a more subtle ducking effect use a multiband compressor. for example duck 50hz on the bass sidechained to kick. or compress 500 on the kick by side chaining the 500hz band to the bass. "put it in the pocket" with attack and release times.
These type of vids always makes me a bit tired.. What the controls do is either self explanatory, or easily found in the manual. But -when- to use the controls, -why you want to use the equipment, that's left out.
@zapzzapzzapz there is nowhere in any instruction manual for any piece of gear, where you will learn these kinds of tricks - like removing everything below 250Hz so you can focus on the mid content of bass. This is something that is learnt by experience and generally speaking, producers and engineers do not readily share these secrets. Get any eq, put it on your bass track, remove below 250Hz, eq the mid content, put below 250Hz back on and you will find your bass comes to life!
I never really got into an analyzer but some say it will do wonders . Do you have a tut about analyzer ?

my only issue with mixing is bass -- nothing but bass is a pain in the ass but I think this is room acoustic issues

@recmixmas I have two rooms to choose from . One room is small the other room is large . Will it matter in size ?
DefectedSalvations 4 days ago
@DefectedSalvations the bigger the room the better. the higher the ceiling the better.
