I don't think this part was entirely bad useless. Most of the movie stayed true to the characters in the books. It is expected that some parts may be exaggerated or changed because it is an interpretation after all. Since I believe this movie was an interpretation of the Jabberwocky poem, it was a call for celebration hence the "O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!", and it wasn't totally unexpected since it was foreshadowed during the tea party.

when i saw this scene in theaters my friend and i just looked at each other like "wtf was that?" then we heard a bunch of kids laughing and realized the movie was pandering to the young audience, while driving the adult audience to actual madness. the adults in the audience just gapped at the screen. i feel like if they had used music and a dance that fit that time period then the scene would have worked, but no they just had to update it to please the kiddies.

Whenever I watch it at home, I'll shut it off when the Red Queen gets dragged off and he says "Callooh, callay!" (Hatter saying that would have made a fine conclusion of Alice's time in Wonderland).
