  • Sad moment in the history of the Dead. The 80's certainly were a mixed bag. Disgraceful.

  • Garcia and Levi's, San Francisco natives... I wish they still made Levi's in the US and I wish Jerry was still here.

  • I read an interview where Garcia mentions that he did this mainly as a way to help some musician friends make some money. Another post from a while back also mentions this.

  • Great post--I've always heard he wears levis, but I found a picture of Jerry from New Haven CT '77 taken from behind Billy and that ubiquitous red tab is quite visible against the black jeans. Love you, man

  • You know those two were best buds. Very cool

  • where can i buy a pair of levis?????

  • jefferson airplane did this in the 60's and stopped because of the labor situation that abbie hoffman told them about.

  • I used to clean the carpets after hours at Front St. Talk about filthy ! Those guys never took their boots off...

  • funny;)

  • is this real???

  • maybe a reference to Stephen King's "'Salem's Lot"?

David Soul live on. get barlow and straker.

  • I remember 2 levis comercial with Jerry Branford and Hornsby jamming to a guy tossing fish and the other one was the lighting director for the dead. They showed the stage and lights but they never actually mention the Dead. Anyone remember those?

  • The bald guy in the video is Sandy Rothman, and behind him is engineer John Cutler. This session took place in the Dead's studio, Club Front in San Rafael CA.

If you like this, check out the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band - several CDs.

  • good stuff

  • I was walking around without any pants until this ad. Now the police are no longer arresting me, since I'm wearing Jerry's Jeans!

    Great post!

    Thanks!!!!!!

  • whats this sell out talk. people do stuff for money everyday. when someone famous does this (w/ a certain fanbase wich more of his particular fans arnt materialistic)he becomes a sellout?.... idk rock on jerry g

  • If selling out leads to widespread financial support of soooo many different, important causes....then I think he had his priorities straight. Jackoroe is right though....I have not had to pay for any Archives songs. Miss the family, Miss the Band, and Miss You Jerry....I will never forget any of you or a single moment of that once magical time. Jon Saylor

  • Well, he probably wore Levis so why not promote them?

    Maybe he liked them.

Personally I wouldn't have cared if he made commercials for Palmolive.

  • It's worth the notion of 501 selling just to hear Jer's 420 giggle! Peace and Lightnin'

  • Alfrunk, be sure never to let a spoonful of "Cherry Garica" ice cream cross your lips either, oh holy one.

  • don't like that flavor. Besides, mr logic, using products he sold out for isn't going to change the fact that he sold out. What are you thinking?

  • He sold out the minute he signed a deal with Warner Bros. So wtf are you talking about? Deborah Koons makes 500k a year off of Cherry Garcia and 1mil a year from his tie sales. I'm happy Garcia and the Dead did what they could to make money so I don't have to pay anything to hear nearly their entire library on archive dot org

  • But now you can't download nearly any of them... :(

  • Alfrunk- so, I take it that you're living a self sustaining life, not contributing to pollution in anyway. No wars, no electricity from grid, etc., etc.

    Thought so.

  • Well, I'm not a global-warming bedwetter, afraid that the earth will end in my time because I don't drive a hybrid, so NO, I don't live that "life"style. Typical hippie-crit. It's all peace and flowers and love until someone has the temerity of disagreeing...

  • Pretty sad that he would sell out like that. Jesus, did he need the money that bad? From the acid tests, to 501 jeans (which he didn't wear the 501's anyway). Sad, pathetic indictment of vacant 80's materialism, and I don't mean the denim.

  • not really sad at all. Jerry did this help out his friends who were doing a really good job of starving to death as bluegrass musicians and who badly needed the cash. Then again I love Cherry Garcia. "Sellout? Show me where to sign!" -Jerry

  • Thank you -- right-on comment.

  • you don't have a freakin' clue do you? jerry went with the flow. it was never about the money for him. It's about making people feel good, laugh and have a great time.

  • do you have a problem with garcia messin' around with nelson laughing and having fun.sell out?i seems you need to just get a life.you speak of the acid tests do you really understand them?

  • Actually, a guy spending his time posting vindictively thousands of times to the thousands (!) of videos he watches on You Tube is a sad, pathetic indictment of your life in the new millenium, isn't it? Far more sad and pathetic than a guy who gave so many people so much happiness in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and all the way to this day. Jeez! Gettist thou a Life, pal!

  • Again, you're lying. I have not posted "thousands" of comments - many of my comments are praise. Do you understand the concept of differing opinions?

  • Look at what you are doing...idiot. You are wasting time picking on people who check out their tunes, small minded, un educated, ass.

  • 82 83 maybe, hes not that grey, but what the hell do i know

  • GREAT FOOTAGE! WHAT YEAR?

  • If my memory servers me correctly (hehe a deadhead with memory) it is '87.
