@Nigelzanproductions I once drew a comic about how i 'saw' this song and got the chance to give it to him in person... he said i totally got the meaning of it. to me, andrew bird compares human interactions to science, stating that some people will just pick on anyone who seems weaker than them, and that what we would describe as feelings towards each other is nothing more than scientific reactions. all humans are basically alone in this life, no matter how much we feel like we have company :)

@soojb7799 probably not...i saw in an interview once where he said he doesn't like to spread his music about. he'd rather keep it pure. he turned down a few rather lucrative car commercials for said reason. however, he did allow his music in a bunch of marriot commercials...and his explanation: "because i stay at hotels".
