@footcandy Are you using any kind of EQ? I've got a piezo installed on my Telecaster but I have to use a 10-band EQ and bump up the low end to get that full of a sound and even then it doesn't sound as good as yours.
God, I have probably listened to this 20 times in the last hour, and I can't get enough of it. Excellent tone, excellent technique, and a beautiful PRS.
This tone is exactly the reason all of my PRS guitars are loaded with piezo pickups. Even my PRS SE Standard and SE Semihollow. Those two guitars sound incredible. Funny thing is, I spent as much on the bridge.piezo system as I did on the guitars themselves, but it was worth it...especially on the semihollow.
Awesome job, i always loved the way that prs guitars can somehow dial into that almost flawless acoustic sound. if you get the time check out my own version of hope on my page. peace!
@brandon5pennies I prefer the tone of the wound G over the plain G, I've always found a plain G sounds tonally totally different from all the other strings on a guiltar. Only problem with the would G is that you can't bend it like an unwound.
@footcandy dude this is the sound ive been looking for in an electric setup .how much does this guitar cost n what amp is being used, man, shit this sounds awesome
Is it possible to get a piezo like this installed in a 513?
I just got one and it's beast. It's got all my electric tones covered. The only thing that would make it better is if it had a piezo just like this.
I'm wondering what would need to be modified on the guitar. I assume there would be need for another switch, volume pot, and output jack. How hard would it be going about getting those things put in? Anyone know?
@iTzNoxy You can get a Graphtech Piezo system which a few people have installed with success in their PRS, but it will only fit into a trem model. Check BaM for some threads on it.
Graphtech makes the GHOST piezzo system for the hardtail bridge models as well...
They even sell Tonepros AVTII bridges (superior bridge to the stock one) with the piezos already mounted. That way you install it on the guitar, wire it up, and you're ready to go.
I watch this video over and over again, it makes me crave to get my own PRS CE-22, which I will probably do next week. I am going to install Ghost piezo's and I really hope it sounds something similar to this!
Actually, that's not true. It will only make you want more of them so you can have one for different string sets, tuning etc. You can't have just one! :) This really is an incredible guitar though, get one, you won't be sorry.
hey bro good cover Rush is the best band ever hey did u learn the tabs by ear or by website? If by website could u send me the link? Or have a vid of u teaching us? Thanks
The PRS is awesome. I was very disappointed when I tried out the T5, the piezo on the Taylor sounded like crap in comparison to the PRS. It was an acoustic guitar pretending to be an electric and it did a horrible job at both.
I totally agree. I just don't have the cash for the dream guitar (PRS). I just bought off ebay a Carvin AC175 with flame maple top and LR Baggs Ribbon p/up for cheap. Its my budget PRS for now! ha ha You sound really awesome man this is my fav acoustic youtube clip.
@footcandy ...there is no piezo in a Taylor T5. It has a body sensor, an under the fretboard humbucker and an exposed bridge humbucker. I can get great acoustic sounds from it, as well as some cool clean and overdriven hollow body electric sounds. Of course, I also have a PRS McCarty with a rosewood neck, and love that too. They both work well for me, guess you just have to try 'em all and buy what you like.
To achieve this sound, you have to take out your old bridge and replace it with a Piezo bridge, then wire in the new controls. Otherwise you can just buy the Piezo Saddles and swap them with your existing ones, then rewire.
Can't say I agree with you. The tuning sounds good. Maybe it sounds different on the six string as opposed to 12? I think the way he improvised some of the song makes it unique ya know?
Cracking playing - I just love the flow and structure of this piece, which is indicative of Lifeson over the years. I want to work this out for myself but just to give me a headstart can anyone tell me what the tuning is please. Thanks in advance.
Yep 2 b strings. That's how he hits the tonic E on the 5th fret. This way he can keep the drone of the EB at the top without having to hit the strings for the melody.
that was really gooood ! i did a cover of this song and im about to put it on youtube! it will never be as good as yours but check it out anyway please :D
that kind of tuning acctually scares me. partly because my tuner doesn't like to tune out of standard. i have a boss TU-80. i looked at the tab and thought it didn't look too hard. it isn't as fast as other songs from the album, and there is a lot of open chords. my favorite to play (tyhe only one i can play as of now) is Mal.
