Did you know that Stevie always plays with the drum sticks the other way around. Look closely you can see that hes using the handle ends. He always does. Fantastic
@mgalore Stevie, has the setup of the drum kit, memorized, he does 90% of the drums in most of his albums too, just listen to "I Wish" thats him on the drums, also if you want a better look at his drumming, look for the documentary "Songs in the Key of Life" its here on Youtube in 8 parts, also someone got the drum portion as a separate video as well.
Stevie has pretty much stopped doing Drum Solo's in live shows, but his work on the Keytar is amazing & a treat in itself to see in person.
I can't believe some people are unimpressed. Not even a "He's an alright drummer, for a man who also plays bass, piano, guitar, harmonica, saxophone, and pretty much anything else he damn well pleases, given a few weeks." Well, did I mention he's blind?
@overcontrol what makes you say that? i was looking up stevie wonders drum solos specifically looking for a double bass one becuase of gene hoglan saying on his dvd how much he loves stevie wonder as a drummer...there isn't THAT much footage of him...
@queenmcsleaze Yeah, amy artists like Stevie on drums, he's not as known for it as he is the Clav & many other instruments he plays, but he is amazing on drums...
I remember in grade school, my music teacher (also the band teacher) telling me I wouldn't be able to play drums because I'm legally blind ,I asked her if she ever listened to Stevie Wonder's music, she said 'of course' I then told her to listen carefully, for the Drums in most of his stuff & then realize HE was the one doing them.
@queenmcsleaze the teacher then proceeded to silently put a pair of sticks in my hands, & sigh, ok, I suppose you can attempt to play, but your not going to do well & your not going to be in the school band...
I was in the band 2 years. till I left that school, & the new one didn't have a music program, & I lived in the ghetto in my city, had no choice of schools...
I was shoved through "Special Ed" my whole life, but EVERYTIME I faced negativeness about my blindness, I thought of STEVIE.
Pas besoin des yeux pour jouer de la batterie ..et le gars fait bien le taf derriere aussi ne l'oublions pas ;) Mais bon c'est du show à la stevie ( très fort comme artiste)!
if i were stevies drummer i'd be like...wait..stevie cant see me playin with my sticks....what am i doin catchin em in my mouth and twirlin em around lol
and also....stevie shoulda gone solo for this....no need for a backup drummer...stevie's a drum god by himself thank you very much XD
@gomezthemexicanhobo you have never seen a drummer hold the sticks backwards before? "Poor guy" huh? Tell you something, this man dusts both you and me on the drums. I went downstairs and closed my eyes behind the set and felt like a clump of shit when I was embarrassed enough to stop.
Hey, give credits to the monster behind him, the dude did almost everything in the solo, Stevie Wonder didn't play alone. The description doesn't even mention him.
@rodrub12 not my type to hit on a guy with a "handicap/disability" but watch ur words son.... you don't even play drum (real drum) and your version of Beethoven is a little off-beat
just don't brag and say you're as good as MR Wonder ;)
Have played drums for quite a while & I cannot shake my head enough in appreciative 'wonder' at this humans prowess in the music field. To love music, is to love Stevie.
@LiLWinK1223 No...he's not. I've seen quite a few people hold their sticks this way. Some even hold one "backwards" and one "conventionally" (usually the snare stick reversed). Try it. It's a different feel altogether. You can generate massive power with all the weight at the front. I'm just glad he doesn't care about 'wrong' way and 'right' way or he may have been too self conscious to redefine music as we know it.
@hotdrumchick he did his own drums for superstition and higher ground. And I bet many more. When he left Motown records, he did most of his own instrumentals
@MicDeluxx I knew both of those facts! He did a tour in Hawaii, & they let him drive a car on the inside of the Aloha stadium, also when Oprah Winfrey bought Stevie a 450,000 Rose Royce Fantom, they let him drive it on the run ways of various airports. I believe the airplane Stevie flew belonged to some African Prince, & they let him take the controls for a while.
@addictivephilosophy No....Samuel Jackson behind him is the only one you can really hear. He is the main good stuff. and Stevie is just soloing over it....very quitely....and not to successful either.
@nuklear41 Stevie Wonder plays the drums on all of his albums, Stevie played every instrument on his (Music Of My Mind) album, except the trumpet. Stevie Wonder can play any instrument he has picked up,including bass & electric guitar. Stevie Wonder is also responsible 4 synths producing authentic sounding acoustic instruments, & weighted keys on synthesizers. Thats right, weighted keys on electric pianos came from the vision of Stevie Wonder! Go 2 the Kurzweil music systems web site 4 info!
I ain't sure Stevie is blind either. I met at a bookshop and introduced myself. He offered me a "high five" and moved his hand just in time and said "Too slow!!"
This solo is pretty damn slick, but to anyone who is impressed because he his blind I'm sorry but that's not a giant acheivement. I don't like that there's another drummer behind him, it makes it hard for me to tell which bits he's actually doing
I am a metalhead and I gotta say every drummer has to bow down to Stevies musical abilities, Im not a fan of his music, but drumming is a different story and to any drummers out there who dont think this is complex, try playing a kickass solo blindfolded, its as close as ur gonna get.
@mreliassimpson Obviously your not a drummer. Drummers that want to play louder use the "Fat" of the stick to get bigger beats. So to do that they reverse the stick to play on the thicker end. I think if people did research before they comment i think a fewer people wouldn't look like fools
@mreliassimpson Do you kiss your mother with that foul mouth of yours? If you didn't care why did you comment back then you idiot!!! Obviously 6 years of drumming taught you nothing and need to continue to learn. Oh and by the way when you go to your drumming lessons stop at the nearest anger managment class and take a seat lamer!!!
@mreliassimpson Wow a big man behind a computer screen. My drummer from my band saw what you wrote and said you probably suck anyway. Stevie Wonder is blind and can play 100x better than you
@tiesthatbind08 probability has nothing to do with this..yes stevie wonder is blind he can play piano, drums and other instruments almost perfectly so yes he is probibly better than me but if he's 100x better what does that make your sad excuse for a drummer?? 300,400,1000000x worse than stevie wonder?
@mreliassimpson Well your absolutley correct considering i'am not a drummer but i know the basics and been in enough bands to know the tricks of the trade. So if you feel you need to TRY and bash me with your imature ways then do so in a private message so people here can enjoy the video without seeing your stupidity.
@mreliassimpson actually both of u r right i have been drumming 4 like 3 years now and my band teacher james bell always plays with the fat side of the drum sticks outside or with marhcing band sticks (heavy) so yea and u use the front side to be soft if u play to hard u will proly end up breaking the sticks
I've never seen him play the drums before either, but it doesn't surprise me. More than anyone else I've ever seen, his keyboard style brings out percussive nature of those instruments.
Don't need to deal with this. Proof read your comment, make sure you read it carefully then read mine & make your decision. Might just want to delete your weak & pathetic comment.
He's only as special as people credit him. Goo710 never said he isn't talented, nor that is music isn't excellent. Clearly he appreciates it, he just doesn't see the point in calling something a gift where A) There is no giver; B) the product that you call a gift is clearly the result of hard work and dedication. It's almost a slap in Stevie Wonder's face to say "You had nothing to do with it, you're just some tool for what someone greater gave you".
Stevie is cold, man---Stevie is cold, man---A MASTER PIECE!!!---WOW!!! 1000 THUMBS UP!!

I say gifted, but goo710's no fucking idiot.
