Tara, I just disagree with you always. Worst commentator ever, NBC have to find new one please! Mao is the most beautiful talented brilliant skater I think. Tara please go away, we don't need you!!
The other anchor woman speaking was so biased with her comments to mao, She must be at least fair .mao skate the program brilliantlly ... so give her the comments she deserves!!
@mian416me well say that when you see her compete again now that she has gotten used to her new technique, i don't see anything or anyone stopping her from dominating again... one skater that should never be counted out is Mao Asada, her ability to always bounce back when you the least expect it is amazing... I really look forward to see her skate again...
Why are they talking about Kim Yuna when Mao is skating. I don't get these 2 commentators. They are talking as if they have landed 3 Triple Axels in a single competition, won 2 world titles and a silver olympic medal. wth
@Ghotika168 well the older sounding one doesnt have much to say, but the other one is Tara Lipinski, the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Ladies figure skating. She has the insight to talk like shes doing in this video.
@AnAsianNamedJose I saw Tara's SP and FS in 1998. They are whimsical, but technically not superior. Tara's programs were nothing compared to Mao's, IMHO.
hm what's special about yuna. she broke world records. she dominated the olympics. She's NEVER placed off the podium even once since she's started.
Yuna is the most consistent skater on ice. She not only has excellent stamina and skills to land her those jumps but also excels artistically on the ice. her programs are the ones that are most memorable and well resonating with audience as well.
Mao is also a good skater but not most consistent. one time she's up then she's down.
@countrymusicCC just because korea bribed the judges to give yuna ridiculous scores doesn't mean she's the best so sorry.mao's steps, spins and spirals are a hundred times better than yuna's and overall yuna is very stiff.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@15pumpum lol most of the judges are japanese because figure skating is immensely popular in Japan. XD. korea doesn't even have its own figure skating rinks.
it's ridiculous you have to resort to these silly tactics to prove mao is better :P Yuna has been breaking records everywhere and her jumps are textbook perfect.
Yuna flies across the ice like a bird and her steps and moves are so graceful. if you want to say she's "stiff" then better go with mao.her program never seems to flow with music
Mao is an excellent skater, but she's still got some ways to go before meeting the perfection and consistency of Yuna. She didn't even place this year at Worlds because of her having to relearn her jumps and all that but hopefully she can still come back strong in the years later.
@countrymusicCC well if you look at all the challeges mao has done and compare it to yuna you would clearly understand why mao sometimes has her up and down this girl never rest ad always wants to do better by challeging herself everytime and doing what no other had dared to, I actually like yuna but if you look at her programs it's always the same spins her spiral could be better, she could challenge herself i so many different area's but doesn't. you're picture off yuna being perfect is rubish
@wsfggf yuna may use similar spins for her programs but each and every program of hers is so intricately and done to near, if not perfect programs. She uses quite complicated and advanced step sequences and is always on beat to every kind of difficult music she uses.
clearly, Yuna has gone beyond any challenges breaking world records and being the most consistent skater out there. this is no diss to Mao though. I applaud her trying to comeback. She just needs more confidence and consistency.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@wsfggf Kim Yuna is still top skater out there in the world. what's so unique about her is that she is such an artistic skater and can emote the emotion into her programs whether it's to the tango or her country's tribute song-Homage to Korean or that of Giselle AND she also has the combined power of her jumps while spinning and expressing herself with such grace. usually skaters only has one or the other. hardly "rubbish".
One more thing... I do love Mao over Yuna but I do agree with everything they said here... all of it is constructive criticism... Tara sees Mao's good side and points out what she's lacking to beat Yuna...
wtf...throughout this entire sp all the commentators do is talk about how great kim yuna is and how mao is losing her game....wow...i rly dont get what is so Godly about kim yuna. i really feel that she and mao each have their strengths and weaknesses....i dont undersatnd why yuna is elevated to status of queen high above mao
I don't think the commentators are negative. Just because they're not as complimentary towards Mao as they are to Yuna, doesn't mean they are being negative. Unfortunately, Mao, as great a skater as she is (and she is one of the greatest I've ever seen), has to share the spotlight with another great skater (Yuna), when under any other circumstances, she would be considered the greatest.
woow mao was fantastic evenso she has been underscored the last couple of seasons, for me she was and is the skater who shines the most not only at world or in vancouver but every season she steps on the ice. I just hope that her scores in the next season are going to reflect more to her briliant performance which she delivers. ohh and those commentators are supposed to be professional their comment are so ridicoules and not neutral like they should have been.
@xxflyingsoulxx101 I was not meaning Tara' s comment was about Mao's personality. I just wanted to say North American commentators were generally siding with Yuna saying such as Yuna is unbeatable or adorable. One Scott Hamilton person called Mao "slow and small" That kind of things were difficult to understand for me. Commentators should be neutral to the skaters.
@moga711 Your comment on Scott Hamilton is very true. But I wouldn't say that the same goes for all the North American commentators. Many, like Peggy and Dick, who weren't on air have pointed out in the past how Yu-Na could work on her stretch and positions, things Scott has throughly ignored.
On the other hand, saying that Mao is a bit slow is not untrue. Speed is definitely something she can work on.
I wonder why a sincere person like Mao is kind of unpopular among North American commentators? Mao is a great skater and always friendly to anybody. She never complains nor makes any negative comments. If you watch her closely it's difficult to dislike her.
@moga711 Tara is not saying Mao has a bad personality in general, just that she lacks it on the ice when she is interpreting her music, which isn't untrue. It could be that the music is just not suited to her, lighter music suits her best. It is something she could definitely work on.
Actually, not sure if anyone like the commentator in this video since it is so so so so biased. The judges would feel ashamed for downgrading triple axel since even the commentator who hates Mao admitted that it was a clean triple axel.
@muuminavetta Exactly. It is no good fun listening to Tara Lipinski's comment on Mao's "lack of personality". On the contrary, Mao has a nice and serene personality that makes everybody really happy. (On the other hand, I am afraid that I found Yuna's SP absolutely vulger.....) I just don't understand why Tara had to make such a comment??? She ruined this video clip. Not at all nice.
@fi202 That's why!! I knew you were not an artist. Tara said Mao has "Beautiful line, great positioning, and beautiful techniques" but "missing some personality". Talking about what she is good at and what she is lack of is giving a helpful comment to a talented artist who can improve in the future. I hope you are really a performance art critic, not a fan who is biased in one person. :)
@muuminavetta Because Yuna is a phenom. Her execution, artistry, and difficulty in her routines greatly outshine those of Mao, and any other skater furthermore.
@thegreendestiny totally agree whit u, she is terrific but tooooootally boring as well she has the classic princes on ice roll that we have seen so many times befeore
What a shame that my 3A was downgraded. What Mao wants to say with the word ''KUYASII''. But, this is not accurate translation since there is no exact English word to describe the feeling of KUYASII.

Judges should downgrade Mao's wrong triple jumps (wrong edge, pre-rotation, lack of rotation...etc.) instead of giving her plus GOE points.
That's why she never wants to fix wrong jumps.

This is the most difficult Short program for a lady ever. And Mao nailed it. Only Mao can nail it of course.
I love Mao who never makes cheap excuses for bad competition results no matter what and always respect other skaters. That's the champion quality.
