  • Hi im kennidy,

I hope all is well with you, im 31 and looking to get the gastric sleeve

the only thing working on now is losing 15 pounds before I can get my date to get the gastric sleeve. can you help with any advise

  • I was the opposite of you and told most of my friends that I was having surgery. I'm not sure it was the best idea. Maybe some of them would have been offended to find out later, but they acted just as awkward and weird with me telling them before it happened. I think the main issue is that people don't like talking about weight, theirs or others'. Or maybe there's some optimal time that's not before or 6 months after. I dunno.

  • Aww, MJ, I dont like seeing you down in the dumps. But, I am VERY well aware of the fact that it's part of the weight loss process, unfortunately. So, just keep in mind, you have an open ear here, if you ever need to talk!! :) PS; 10 LBS HOLY SHART!! LOL :) Keep up the good work girl, and keep yo head up! :) *hugs*

  • WE, your youtube family, are sooo proud of you!! You are doing awesome with both with expressing your feelings and your eating habits. I am on the WL journey (without surgery) and feeling the same thing when people approach me about my weight loss. It is kinda weird. You feel kinda guilty, you want to keep it somewhat private and you are somewhat encouraged; however, prefer not to discuss it all the same. Feel free to contact anytime and lets share. Best of continued success!

  • I don't dump either...BUT sometimes if I eat a piece of pie it

will give me a stomach ache for about 1/2 an hour...it seems like it depends on what I have eaten earliier...great video...

  • congrats, you are lookin so so good...i finally got my insurance approval (thank GOD) it only took 5 months (LOL) but i think the main reasons i've chosen to keep my business to myself: i don't feel like i wanna be watched like a hawk when i get ready to eat....every bite i take i don't want someone telling me or looking at me like (how i don't need that) or (you know thats no good for ya) or (you spent all that time and money) but maybe thats just me feeling guilty in advance....wish me luck.

  • btw - I'm so happy for your progress on & off the scale. I can only imagine how rewarding this feels.

The thought of getting to that point in my life is really exciting. :o)

  • Now that I've made the decision to have surgery - I've also decided I'm not going to openly talk about it. At least not right now.

In fact I've instructed my daughter (I know the word "instructed" sounds harsh) - but I've instructed her not to discuss this with anyone outside of our immediate family. (she's 14 & she sings like a caged bird)

I feel this is such a personal decision, therefore for the time being I'm keeping this on a "needs to know basis".

  • hey hun, its so great to your face again! you look amazing!... i hear ya on the "telling people" thing, im sure its awkward to just bring it up now...i say just tell everyone and be proud of it, lol...xoxooxo

  • hey, ot's so nice to see our smiling face. Great job on your loss. i did tell people at work and now i deal with that ? "how much have you lost" all the time, ARG!! One just can't win the battle LOL

  • I think that maybe some of these people may have an idea that you have had the surgery. OMG, I was just thinking about Star Jones! It's up to you whom you tell IF you tell. But since you are so successful, you might want to share with others..especially with those who are having weight issues. Maybe they want to know HOW you are losing. I know I was always asking people HOW they lost weight. You are amazing MJ! I have always enjoyed your videos. Keep smiling!! *hugs*

  • Congrats on your losses. I had some similar experiences with therapy. It's so great that you are addressing all aspects of this. It takes a lot of courage.

Also, I don't think you are being dishonest by not sharing with everyone about your surgery. It really is a personal choice and though it may be awkward now to come out of the closet so to speak, you made the best choice for yourself at the time. Be kind to you :)

  • Just try and keep it a positive thing. Like if they compliment you, agree and add that "Yeah, Gastric Bypass has helped me eat healthier and now I can exercise every day." So this way they can understand that you have changed your metal and physical state to be healthy and not think oh she has that surgery and took the "EASY WAY OUT" which we know is not correct. I hope I said that right and I hope it helps in some way. Congrats again. Your looking great. ;o) Priscilla

  • WOW 10 LBS IN A WEEK! Congrats that's awesome.

  • You look great girl! I also saw Starr on Oprah and it was a good episode, learned a new side of WLS.

  • Hi MJ! You look great & you are doing amazing. Wow, ten lbs--that exercise sure is paying off! I am happy you found a therapist because I know she will help you deal with your issues-- no matter how hard. That is another part of the weight loss process for many of us to get through- but a hard one. Good for you for having the courage to do it. I have a few issues of my own to deal with-- I pray about them but I know eventually I will seek out a therapist too. Thanks for your honesty.

  • I loved this video! I feel the exact same way about telling people about the surgery. I didn't tell many people but now that will is planning on having surgery (he's more open about who he tells) people are putting two and two together and asking if that's what I did. I feel a little guilty about lying to them too. Great job on the loss...You are so beautiful! :D Hugs, Amy

  • Thanks Amy! Yeah it's weird, on one hand, it's no one's business but on the other hand it feels kind of deceptive. I don't know that there's a clear cut answer.

  • I'm sorry your feeling a lil down here lately. Just wanted to let you know you look great girl. Congrats on your weightloss!!!!!!!

  • Thank you! I'm feeling better and I hope it stays that way :)

  • It's good that you are working through your issues. It's a painful process, but necessary. Take care.

  • I was hoping it wouldn't be as painful, but I keep remembering that it always gets worse before it gets better. Thanks for your kind words.

  • Great job on your loss thus far, and way to go recognizing what foods you can and can't tolerate. Take care!

  • Thank you. Yeah I'm trying to stay aware and really observe what food does for and to me.

  • wow girl you look great. I think I only dump on cheese I always feel sick after eating that. but sugar I dont go over 12gram. I really dont want to test the waters on that. glad things are turning around. well take care =)

  • Don't test the waters on the sugar thing, part of me wishes that I didn't know that I don't dump. It made it so much easier to avoid desserts and unhealthy foods.

  • Its so good to hear your still loosing some good weight!!! I love ur vids!

  • Thanks, how the little one doing?

  • he is turning into a little porker! LOL

  • I know what you mean. People at work are always commenting on my weightloss, but I have only told half of them. I am sure word is out, because teachers are the best gossipers. That makes feel like they know but want to hear it from me, but I dont really want to bring it up if they don't know.

  • Yeah, I kind of feel like people must suspect or at least be talking about it. If so I would rather them just ask me, but maybe they think it'll make me uncomfortable.

  • I love watching your videos your so sweet...love rosemary

  • Thanks Rosemary!!
