  • How would you expect a nylon-strung classical guitar to sound if it had an aluminium top? I'm also curious about the bracing you have in there. This guitar is really interesting.

  • @SamWBellis Howdy - if I was going to make a classical guiar I would use the same aluminum back and sides but would switch to .06" thick phenolic composite material. I would brace it the same as a typical classical guitar - fan bracing. I would use thin phenolic ribs - about the same size as typical fan braces. My steel string guitars use a modified X bracing. It may also be possible to make a classical using the aluminum top witn X or fan bracing. I would also use a cutaway if it was mine.

  • @edtubesled Wow thanks for the reply! I've never heard of a guitar with a phenolic top (I had to google it). I have no idea what that would sound like. Have you experimented with it before?

  • @SamWBellis I havent built a guitar with the phenolic top material. I have a sheet of it and I plan on making a steel string version the next time I am building guitars. I am very busy and havent made a giutar in a year or so. I am looking for someone to help me build them. I know materials pretty well and the phenolic composite should rival a spruce top for sound quality - only one way to find out - I have to make one. I will do a video when that happens.
