It's really interesting that while at my local indoor gun range the other day I had "fragments" of the bullet ricochet off the back wall and hit me in the shoulder and face. Granted these were tiny pieces... but it took me by surprise and made me glad to have my glasses on! In fact it wasn't even my bullet that fragmented. The pieces came from a shooter two lanes over. Just an FYI for any people out there!

Very few of the shooting glasses you buy in most sporting goods stores will be Ballstic Vo rated. Elvex makes some reasonably priced glasses and many are Ballistic Vo rated. Plus they have several models of shooting glasses specifically for women.

I really appreciate all the insight! I'll definitely be looking into the Elvex brand. Especially as I start to plink a little bit outside next summer. Gotta protect against ricochets etc. Good investments usually pay off. Thanks again for the comment!

Ricochets, kaBooms (catastrophic failure of the firearm) and the idiot shooting next to you. Eye protection is like insurance, you only need it when bad things happen. But when bad things happen, you want the best insurance available.

When it comes to eye protection, there are three basic standards:

1. ANSI Z87.1

2. ANSI Z87.1+

(Also sometimes called ANSI Z87.1 high impact or high velocity)

3. MIL-PRF-31013 Ballistic Vo

For shooting glasses, you want a minimum of ANSI Z87.1 +

Thanks for the video. It amazes me how many people you see on You Tube who don't wear eye and ear protection.

Muffs and plugs do provide an upgraded protection level and it is a good idea.

Howard Leight is considered a quality company. But most ear muffs will work. Obviously, if you have a choice select the ear muffs with the highest NRR rating.
