Stock LS1 fbodys are in the 160 mph range. WS6's and SS Camaro's are 3-4 mph faster.
Depends on what road test you read or what car is tested. Each run different.. I have some old magazines that have LS1 Trans ams running from 157-163 mph, these were 6 spd cars. LT1's are typically 2-3 mph slower topend then a LS1. Either way both in stock form will hammer a stock Mustang 4.6 GT topend.
On avg Mustang GTs from 96-09 top speed is around 140-145 and like you said the newer T/A's is 155 - 160mph. The Camaro on the other hand isn't as fast as the T/A on top speed they avg out 150-155 which could put them very close to a GT mustang. I'am not sure about the Cobra but I read in motor trend 03-04 top speed was 170MPH. Either way I like T/A alot better then the Camaro, I am still holding a grudge that GM is doing away with Ponatic and not keep it around! Puts a bad taste in my mouth

Eh the LS1 Trans Am Ws6 top speed is 159mph. Not sure about LT1 but I know for sure because I seen a 99 T/A Ws6 get tested, and it was 159mph.
