gaming for the mac was known for being shitty, but until recently the 2011 models and up (preferably quadcore 2.4 ghz with even 4gb ram) are amazing and keep up with even alienwares to sum degrees. i can run any game without a problem, call of duty, hitman, even emulators like nintendo wii, xbox (havent tried 360 yet), my fav is playing metal gear solid 2 on ps2 and it runs smooth as shit, dont underestimate the mac even if you are a serious user

If you want to play hard core games get a pc, I don't have anything particularly against macs but I hate fanboys. To play hardcore games you need a discrete graphics card to get a discrete graphics card on a macbook you need to pay at least $1800 for one that is not that good. For the same price you can get a fantastic gaming laptop that would blow the mac book pro at the same price out of the water. The mac environment is also worse inherently for gaming graphics even with the same specs.

Listen up! I've got the 13" Core i7 and my dad has the same specs (only his graphics are better) on his 1899$ 17" VAIO and we both did some tests:

Booting:

mine boot 3 times while his booted once

Sims3 + World Adventures + Luxus Accessories :

mine was running after about 20-30 sec. and his showed the menu after 3 minutes and then crashed

@Monsterous28 The 13" has an integrated intel gfx chip. Most games like Crysis and L4D2 can't support that. If you want one for gaming then get the 17" (if you really don't need a laptop get a mac pro)

no, it works awesome I have been playing Need for speed most wanted with windows 7 through VMware, also GTA san andreas it is awesome 0 lags.... and i have been playing call of duty modern warefare on Mac os itself and its 0 lags... great for gaming... btw i had a Macbook pro 13" 2010 and i took it to best buy and got the 2011, the 2010 i had was only a few weeks old and im a premium bestbuy member 45 day return policy... :) ....

Apple just replaced my 2010 model with the new one 17 inch 8 gb memory 256 SSD 2.33 quad core. I was lucky enough to have a bad computer which would allow me to upgrade to new software. I can't wait to get it. The graphics look amazing on it!
