I've just come back from Phuket and talked to alot of guides of our excursions about the tsunami...terrible. We walked along the beach at Patong and just couldn't imagine that wave hitting there like it did.
You really think they were that dumb and just stood there and drowned? People had no idea what it was when it was coming in, and most people don't understand how fast tsunami moves and how long they surge in for - atleast four or five minutes. The water was also full of broken glass and wood so most died in Patong from injuries

The whole building shook when the tsunami hit and I was so lucky to be able to pluck my son from the closing lift in the split of a second before the electricity went out. To this day I still suffer from that terrifying experience.

PM thaksin was the 1 who order large scale repair on the coasts and the thai government also compensated for all the losses of business there, i know thai ppl are amazing. I love thai people by their service and they are all so kind and friendly. So different compared to other nationality.
if u like good and nice pplz you should go to eritrea,afrika they are among the nicest pplz i've meet, and the whole country, i haven't meet one single scary or bad person in that land. it is a real experience going there i would like to tell you!

just got back from patong and koh samui last week and i would go to koh samui anyway alot more relaxing and better nightlife. it is amazing how they cleaned up though it looks awesome these days

Sadly it will happen again. Its impossible to stop. The tectonic plates in that region are so unstable. The good news is they know how to react quicker, with the new warning system being installed. Thats why I go to Koh Samui on the west side. Shielded away from the main ocean in the Bay.
This was very difficult to watch. I was in Patong in the summer of 2003, 2005 and 2006. I consider my self very lucky to not have been there on Boxing Day of 2004. I lost many good Thai friends that day. I pray this never happens again.---PatongTed

Resort on the left at 048sec is the graceland resort, I have just come home from patong beach, they have recovered well from the 2004 Tsunami.

I went to Phuket in 2007 (years after Tsunami).
A riptide yanked me and my two children to sea. My mistake for not being careful. Four brave thai men swam to rescue us! All were saved!
I am forever gratefull to them. Thais are friendly and noble people. I wish them all the best.
