TV always make it seems like every decade you have these families who espouse, yes I said it, "espouse" conservative family values. I remember kids were so nasty and obnoxious in the 80s.
Better than "The New Leave It To Beaver" opening. But long. I guess it was okay during this run because The Disney Channel was a pay channel (like HBO) with no commercials back then.
Oh, wow. This is a REALLY long intro. And the music is a little too much. Haha. I've never seen the show (and just found out it existed, actually). R.I.P. Barbara Billingsley. <3
Barbara Billingsley, who gained supermom status for her gentle portrayal of June Cleaver, the warm, supportive mother of a pair of precocious boys in "Leave it to Beaver," died Saturday. She was 94.
@Astraldragon1 CRAP! I like the thumbs up/down idea, but I don't like that I can't change my vote. I totally got finger happy and accidentally clicked thumbs down on this. Sorry. I meant to click thumbs up. Stupid YouTube won't let me fix it. :-(
@k9feces Maybe there were some psychological reasons affecting June Cleaver, perhaps she never overcame his death, hence the hallucinations and why there were no photos for the series. However, in reality, I know that they didn't use his image because of copyright issues, exploitation and royalties, which still doesn't make any sense to me.
Man, from time to time I've heard of this series but never got to see an episode because I wouldnt be able to afford cable tv until 10 years later in 1996.
Nice in a nostalgic way, even keeping the old house the same. However, you can clearly see why many child actors don't make it as adults. Still, Ken Osmond as Eddie still stole the show as the original anti-hero!
yeah...this is lame..I watched part of an episode of The New Leave It To Beaver and the acting was HORRIBLE!! The lame laugh track wasn't much better.
On the last scene, where the mini van pulls out, a large house can be clearly seen. Unless I'm very much mistaken, I think it's the home at Morning Glory Circle, where Bewitched was filmed.
@MarkMaginel Yep, Just like JKSonny said, a lot of tv shows and movies and sometimes commercials have the same houses in them. I have seen the Bewithced house in commercials and even on Desperate Housewives.
The creepiest thing wasn't the absence of Ward Cleaver, but the scenes in which June would visit Ward's grave, talking things over with him and asking advice from a dead man. Heartbreakingly sad and eerie...
Ted Turner made the deal with Universal to continue "STILL THE BEAVER" on TBS {as "THE NEW LEAVE IT TO BEAVER"} because he was one of the original series' biggest fans [at the time, repeats of "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" was a cornerstone of TBS' daytime schedule], and he was interested in expanding his cable channel's schedule for new sitcoms at the time...
I read that as this show evolved, was retitled "The New Leave It To Beaver" and moved to the Superstation channel (TBS), it came closer to having the kind of heart & gentle humor of the original series.
Having only watched the reunion film (also titled "Still The Beaver") and maybe one episode of this show, I can't say for sure, although the reunion film was quite watchable--sad in that it had a part dealing with the death of "Ward" (Hugh Beaumont).
@harobikeguy1989 There are a couple of photos of Ward in this from 0:43 to 0:44 only you have to pay real close attention when they fly by or else you could miss them!
@harobikeguy1989 , they did show pictures of their Dad "Ward".. but it went by quickly when the music started going faster around 0:43 untill the main title came up on the screen....but I believe there is a 2nd opening where they actually focus on a Picture of "Ward"
The problem with shows like this is the actors made the show and the new kids were dull. We want Beaver and Wally and Eddie not their kids. Also having Eddie's kid be a cloan of him defied logic, Eddie was a jerk but no idiot, he'd be one step ahead of his own kid
I love how you can see the Universal Studio's land behind the house when the pan back towards the end. Sort of ruins the fantasy of the Cleavers having that back yard, lawn and trees they always chatted about.
MysteriousStyle: Yeah, I bought the episodes on DVD just after I made that post, and also did a bit of research, and it turns out that Disney cancelled the show after the series' 27th episode (most of these episodes aired during the 1984-85 season, with one exception), and the show was renewed two years later by TBS, where it ran for three more seasons from 1986-89 (so the majority of the episodes were produced for TBS, which I didn't realize until recently!).
I always find it interesting what talented arrangers can do with a good piece of music. You'd never think a tune with a name like "The Toy Factory" could be updated from the 1950's to fit into the 80's. But could you imagine trying to do this WITHOUT that familiar theme?
Wow, that has to be one of the longest opening credit sequences EVER! Even without the Barbara Billingsley voiceover teaser, it still runs at a solid 2 minutes! Thanks for posting this...I only remember the shorter version that was used on the TBS episodes, which were produced after Disney cancelled the series (with the same dumb "65 episodes and out" rule they observe to this day!). :{D~
I thought "Still The Beaver" was the name of the MOVIE reunion and that the TV show was called 'The NEW Leave It To Beaver". If this was the opening for the TV show -- ye gods! Not only amazingly long, but the logistics involved -- especially to get the Haskells/Osmonds credits on.
The first season of the series was also called "Still the Beaver" and aired on Disney for 26 episodes. The first few episodes had a yellow titles, while the last part of the season used the sequence shown here with green lettering. The title was changed to "The New Leave it to Beaver" only after moving to TBS. On that network, the "Still the Beaver" episodes were redubbed with the 'New Beaver' title sequence, so this is EXTREMELY rare.
