  • Timballo is Timbano in the sicilian dialect :D

  • @gymnema I wonder if the film's gastronomical consultants were sicillian

  • @patchbus @ituim2007 No. His name is Giovanni Scappin and he is from Northern Italy, Tuscany perhaps, l forget

  • @zsimon21 Thanks! Chef Scappin's interesting bio is available at the Culinary Institute of America website! (ciachef.edu)

  • "Lu timpan" is dialect from the province of Teramo, where this recipe is from

  • @ituim2007 Thank you for the clarification!

  • Whatever that was it looked hella good.

  • timballo= salt-pie (more or less)

    timpano= eardrum (or kettledrum)

    ;)

  • if Anyone reading this has tried it let me know it looks good.

  • @anne24ism I have made it, I found the recipe in an italian language cook book in Rome some years ago. I recognized it from the movie. Exactly the same thing, eggplant and everything. It is fantastic and a great dish to bring to a big party.

  • @anne24ism i tried it at home 2 times it's the best food you will ever eat!

  • Comunque si chiama  "TImballo"

  • Unfortunately, I don't speak Italian. Thank you for the comment. I will add "timballo" to the tags because, evidently, "timpano" and "timballo" are either similar or related.

  • @patchbus ...yes, they both mean "large kettle drum" ....like you see in the symphony.

    This amazing dish gets it's name from the shape.
