This makes me hold back tears. We are in a similar situation now considering we are sticking our hands in other peoples' business against the average American will. I cry inside because the emotions, wills, demand, and confidence of the American public today has finally been repressed enough that I fear demonstrations like this are a thing of the past.
It was an amazing day and weekend. I was there that day with many of my friends...MP's from C Co.503rd MP Bn. Ft. Bragg, NC. A lot of us only had 10 days left in the Army and never considered we were a part of something that would become historical.
My biggest recollection was that the US Marshalls went above and beyond necessary force those two days. Real jerks who have played that day up as a riot of the US Marhalls website. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Thank you for sharing. Amazing. I was there 40 years ago with a friend from Yale whom I and my Dutch boyfriend met in Japan on our hitch hiking tour around the world. We now both live separate lives in Sweden. There's really need for another major march and the 40th anniversary on Oct 21 -07 seems like the perfect date. Will there be a "revival"? I'll be there. /GK
I'm doing a short segment on the 1967 Pentagon march and I'm currently here in Washington, DC looking through material at the archives. I'd like to talk with you further about your thoughts on the event and the possiblility of using this footage, if possible. What is the best way to communicate outside of you tube?
I own it - my partner in the project passed away a few years ago. All that remains of it is this video transfer from a 16mm print but I have a DV tape of the transfer.
"I can't understand what the girls are for; their not gonna be drafted." Truly some people are dense. Of course nowadays women are almost draftable. It moves closer.
The October 1967 Pentagon demonstration was the first national protest against the war. The Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam organized the protest to get national visibility for the anti-war movement.
The picnic mood at the Lincoln Memorial changed during the long day of speeches and demonstrations. At 5:40 p.m., a determined crowd of 35,000 headed for the Pentagon.
go to the site FortMyerVaMemories you will see some photos of the March
