Jeez, haven't these people heard about bankruptcy? Many of the banks that issued their mortgage, credit cards, and or personal loans walk away from debt everyday if it's in their best financial interest.
Unfortunately there are folks out there who just STILL don't get it. I carry about $900 in credit card debt - it's for my business and I'd love to get it down and I'm working on it. Other than that, with a six figure income, we pay cash for everything. If we can't debit or cash, we don't go or do it.
if I can't pay cash for something I dont want it ,I have a 7 berdroom in a nice neighborhood ,we used a handy hammer and built it ourselves most people would rather use other peoples money and bust their asses trying to make a note when all they have to do is put some sweat into building their house themselves and you can purchase land in various places cheap in some cases.
In hindsight, this ad was foretelling! Scary, no one paid attention to it. Viola we got sacked with economic downfall brought on by careless practices the financial credit services industry carried out. This all started way way back with creative schemes crafted by Providian that was copied throughout the industry (tapped the unbanked market w/ 0 annual fees but hit customers w/ stealth fees - high penalties)..Consumer credit debt fueled subprime lending -- really, screwy wasn't it?!!?!
My social studies teacher mentioned this commercial when she was talking about the roaring 20s and people buying on credit for the first time. I found it like half a year later :P
I remember watching this commercial and LMAO. It showed me that as a nation we were heading for disaster. Prez B.O. says he can't sleep nites - worried about the economy. He's telling consumers: "Ya just gotta spend!" 'N Taxpayerz are gonna get tax breaks to buy new cars! Today (2/4/09), B.O. tellz Congress: "Pass that stimulus or we're gonna have a catastrophe!" IT'S TIME FOLKS: THE CAR CULTURE & SUBURBIA ARE GONNA DIE! GET YOURSELVES READY!! The Piper wants his money & we ain't got it!
The reason most people are poor is because they buy things they don't need to impress they don't like. This can be said for people that make minimum wage right up to actors, and professional athletes that make millions a year.
No it isnt. Its a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 5/6 speed variable automatic, high output V8, AWD, Dana 44s front and rear, 3.73 locking axle ratio. Pretty beastly off road and comfortable on road. I do like his car.
It doesnt have the 2003-2004 facelift, its a smoked headlight Laredo, which means 01-02. The ad was in late 2002 (I remember it) so its probably a 2002.
Of course we all know Stanley Johnson, and I do mean JOHNSON,has now lost his house, and was last seen heading for a lending tree office on his not paid for lawn mower, with 800 hundred rounds of ammo, and an AK 47 saying kill!,kill! kill!
Hi, LendingTree? Yes, this is the United States of America. Turns out I've been irresponsibly spending way beyond my means for the past decade, and I'm about to collapse! Can you help me? No? Why? Credit freeze? You don't trust my financial habits? I can change! Hey don't-hey what are you doing-don't hang up on me! Hello? Hello?! Help me out here! My life as I know it is over! No, this can't be...*sob*
Considering the current state of the economy, this is a genuine cultural artifact, not to mention Exhibit A in whatever trial the executives of LendingTree may one day face.
And we wonder why there is STILL a Mortgage Crisis.Companies like this feed off of people that are knee deep in debt only to put them even deeper. Can you even read the fine print at the bottom ?
Look up what the average debt is for someone when the graduate college, very scary. And thats when you're young and don't have an established career. I'm amazed that the education system in this country doesn't try and teach kids how to be responsible with money and not just spend it on fast food, music, etc. Most folks salaries should be able to pay for their home and transportation...if they can't, there is something seriously wrong with their spending habits.
This is so funny and true. There's just not enough income for the average american to have a roomy home of your own and a new vechical that isn't breaking down and actualy living well with time for your family.
I always need to borrow from tomorrow and it's a dreadful experience.
This was a Super Bowl commercial for SB 38 in 2004. My FAVORITE television commercial of all time. I thought then, and I still think, the reason it disappeared from circulation so quickly (in about a month IIRC) was bc it reminded too many people of themselves. Let's face it...we're by and large not a people that spend money responsibly. Too fucking funny, though.
somebody help me!!! that's the best part of this commercial!!! almost die from laughter at that part!!! Stanley Johnston is pure genius!!!! A+ buddy!!!
That's it. Solve your debt with more debt. The Bible says the borrower is the servant to the lender; and this new world economic system is setup to eventually squash everyone but the wealthiest of the truly wealthy. A time is coming when THE Messiah will come and take these intricately planned & designed burdens off our backs; we need to learn to live without all these idols.
This is my favorite commercial! It's so fuckin' funny! I love when he is all ''Somebody help me" I laugh every time. It's impossble not to, his friendly expression when saying it is priceless.
