  • I was rather curious because you make no mention of Breguet whose clock in the A&M yours resembles. It's a fascinating and I think seldom explored concept, although a similar neo Breguet double pendulum clock has been made in Ireland I think - I can find out if you want.

  • @RollaArtis

Yeah, this is not my clock, it is made by David Walter. There have been several publications about it's roots and differences to Breguet and others. I know of several different versions with the main differences being the link between pendulums at the flexure, driving both vs. driving one, etc. Look to the Horological Journal, and I think John Kirk is writing a book about them all.

  • @belleverman Thanks, I'll have to track down the relevant journals as I'm not a BHI member. As far as I know, only one pendulum needs to be driven - it all depends on the suspension which is deliberately made non rigid so that the other vibrates in sympathy and halves the error (in theory at least). There are watches made on this principle but they of course cannot work as claimed - unless the balances are placed directly on top of each other.

BHI has made the cover article on this clock available for free on their site.

I apparently cannot post a link in this comment. There is a link to it in the upper section of the HJ subscribers page.

  • @belleverman OK Thanks for the info!

  • Nice work, but I wonder - have you ever visited Windsor Castle or the Musee des Arts et Metiers Paris?

  • @RollaArtis

No, neither, but I have been to the Royal Observatory before I knew what to really look at beyond Harrison's clocks, which took my breath away!
