  • This is the 1934 version with Virginia Bruce and Colin Clive -- directed by Christy Cabanne. There is a 1944 version (among others) with Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine.

  • what year/producer/etc. is this?

  • @jenna9ish about 1944 or something, but i dont know who the producer was...

  • This is not Jane Eyre...with Joan Fontaine and Orson Wells. Peggy Ann Garner is the child. where is she? This is awful

  • OMG, did they read the book at all?

  • they kill the book in all the versions i gave seen.

@ellenruddy toby stephens & ruth wilson version is pretty bad too except for idiots who just want escapist crap

  • This must be the strangest adaption of Jane Eyre I've ever seen.

  • They made young Jane seem like a real brat...not at all how she is in the book...

  • •• 4th. George C. Scott, Susannah York (missed a lot of the needed detail n passion)

    • 3rd 1997 Ciaran Hinds &Samantha Morton (turnoff.. he comes across a little creepy in the bedroom scene)

    • 2nd. 1983 with Timothy Dalton & Zelah Clarke (hated Clarke too old, no passion but Dalton brilliant)

    • 1st. the 2006 version.. Toby Stephens & Ruth Wilson ( only drawback she’s too tall)

  • • my bottom to top list of Jane Eyre tv and film versions (in two posts)

    • 8th. Colin Clive & Virginia Bruce (total 1930's crap)

    • 7th.Charlotte Gainsbourg William Hurt (he killed it for me, dreadful portrayal of edward)

    • 6th1973 Sorcha Cusack, Michael Jayston (ok its not good but better than these last two

    • 5th 1944 Orson Welles & Joan Fontaine (good for an early version

  • worst version of jane eyre ever.... watched it it the early seventies after discovering the book as a new teenager and hated the film, at the time i couldn't figure out how they could change it so much for film.. they missed the whole point of the book.. any true jane eyreann can explain it...but just rewatched it on youtube and had to tape my hands to my side so i couldn't click it off.... bad bad bad...
