  • YOU FORGOT THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!! Sweet George Harrison. And Johnny Lennon. Oh yeah, I'm 14.

  • @newallthestars100 - George would have been a good choice - he was sort of cute. John, not so much (though he is my second favourite Beatle, after George (Paul's my least favourite)).

  • I think Stiv Bators should be in this, it works on two levels.

  • I've had a soft spot for Bobby Driscoll for a couple of years <3

  • the guy at 2:28 looks like captain hook

  • @TheMoonspirityue1 - He does, kind of. He was a local (to my town) musician named Joe Chitalen.

  • You do know, that Billy Tipton was actually a woman, right?

  • @LiveBeat713 - I do know Billy was labelled as female as a child. Identity and biology do not always coincide. I'm male, but the existence of people like Mel Gibson, George W. Bush and Perez Hilton make me reluctant to be a man.

  • @Timmybear I agree with your view on this matter. I was just checking, because thought this is public knowledge now there's still people who are unaware of this. Thank you for not being one of them.

  • @LiveBeat713 - and thank YOU. The transphobia/gender rigidity in my community (queer community) has always puzzled and disgusted me. There's a trans-cub (young furry gent) in this town (at least one), and I have no issue with it. 'Goodness knows some folks do. :(

  • @Timmybear Yeah some people only support diversity and acceptance as much as it takes to ensure they are protected, and I think some gay people feel if they hostile to those who are considered "weirder" than them, then that will normalise them to the general heteronormative body politic, it doesn't work, but it doesn't stop people trying.

The again some people are just bigoted, hateful scum :/

  • @LiveBeat713 Billy Tipton was a transperson. Brandon Teena... ALSO a transperson.

  • @F2Mbody - Indeed, they were. They seemed to identify as male, though.

  • Brandon Teena was so beautiful :(

  • I don't think that putting pictures of dead boys is really accurate to the song. I'm beginning to think that this song is about falling in love with a transvestite. I watched a video where Antony was singing this song to a room of transvestites. So.. I'm thinking that's what it's about. The "dead boy" is figurative for a boy who is no longer a boy.

  • @naturallyhi3 - You may have a point. The song supports multiple interpretations. Other than, oh, 'Pop Goes The Weasel', though, songs are filtered through the listener's brain - there's no such thing as 'this is what the song is about' (I've met people who miss 'the point' of LOLA, but they still enjoy the song...).

  • @naturallyhi3 its actually about a person who was hiv positive that he fell in love with. theres a video on youtube where he explains this before he sings the song. search something like "I FEEL in love with a dead boy grec" and you should find it. so to me, i agree, that makes this video completely irrevelant to the meaning of the actual song.

  • @TWard82 - There is no such thing as one meaning to a song. Meaning is in the ear of the listener. Much as with literature, if the text can support the reading, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' take.

  • @naturallyhi3 The song was written about someone afflicted with AIDS, but there is no correct interpretation. That's the lovely thing about music.

  • @naturallyhi3 "i tell my family i wish you could have met him"

  • There's other boys I'd like to see that are missing, but you know what? It's his video & he's entitled to use boys that mean so much to him. I say "bravo" to that.

  • It's better to say that Billy Tipton was at least born a woman. As far as the musician is concerned, Billy was a man.

  • Comment removed

  • perfect. except dwayne goettel was missing.

  • Billy Tipton was actually a female =/

  • @Obox925 - Everyone has an opinion - one of the two things everyone has. We will never be entirely certain how Billy identified, but there seems to be a fair amount of evidence he identified as male.

  • like i said this is a sick video

  • @AshantisSmith1 - I understand what you think. I disagree - I'm not required to agree. :)

  • @AshantisSmith1 Why is remembering the dead sick?

  • this is crazy i dont watch dead stuff

  • no marc bolan

  • shoulda had Stiv bators

  • Well, I could only shoehorn in so many - and I didn't think Stiv was cute. :)

  • D Boon <3

  • where sid viscious

  • Well, I couldn't put EVERYONE, and, anyway, it was mostly boys I could conceive falling in love with. Sid's not really my type. ;)

  • @Timmybear ok ha

  • thats darby at 3:09

  • 3:09 would be Billy Tipton. Darby's at about 0:39. :)

  • @Timmybear what that totally looks like darby

  • i will always remember this as our song my sweet special girl xoxo

  • aw........... i cried

thank you for posting this wonderful poignant video....... oh death... but it gives us meaning to life

    with love

    robbiew8n

    xx

  • Wow! Johnny Thunders.. Hadn't thought about him in a long damn time. Really want to get that documentary of Arthur Kane later on in his life. What about Joey Ramone?

  • I agree with both PJ Soles and Helen Love in re the attractiveness of Joey Ramone. :)

  • I fell in love with Egon Schiele.

  • why is he so sick ? someone plz explain him to me, I just love his music, but I dont know anything about antony, for example, this song is sick .... SOmeone enlight me plz!!!

  • Lovely tribute...maybe Jeff Buckley's would have graced Antony's voice, as well...*****

  • I'm really happy you included Brandon Teena in this :) A lovely tribute to him and the others here

  • Great song

    Great video.

  • sooo beautiful <3

and first pic of Kurt is wonderful

    antony is an angel

  • Thank you.

  • what about brad nowell

  • Him again. I don't really know Sublime's music. I"m sure he was probably very nice. It is only a 4 minute song, though. ;)

  • I fell in love with Johnny Cash three years after he died ):

  • Oh, Darby Crash. So beautiful. So talented. So perfect. I truly have fallen in love with a dead boy.

  • Why the songs Antony releases on EP are often better than the ones from studio albums? This is great!

  • I'm well aware what society said Billy was. It has been known to be wrong :)

  • Thank you soo much for this brillant contribution. I just can't stop looking at these beautiful boys. I lost my brother 4 months ago. He was a beautiful (but tortured) boy. Thanks again.

  • 2:13....is that jesus ?:D

  • Close. Angus MacLise, the original drummer of the Velvet Underground (1938-1979).

  • Now I guess I should add Jeff Hanson. :(

  • I saw antony last night, he sang this song, very beautifully haunting. He writes the best songs because he is a tourterd soul. Most geniuses do ther best work when they are torterd-lennon,van gough-gazza-hitler(even tho he was evil)

  • Amazing song, but does anyone else think it is a creepy video?

  • Well, that was not entirely unintentional. Some of these people ran right to death with open arms. I don't think The Grim Reaper should be feared, but you needn't make it easy for Him.

  • good to see johnny n jerry in there...

  • and Arthur. :) (I could not find a single picture of Billy Murcia by himself :( )

  • Absolutely gorgeous song. Antony is so talented. The words to all of his music are just beautiful. I am so thankful I found Antony & The Johnsons. The music is so beautiful you could cry.

  • Wonderful. Only where is the most beautiful dead boy ever-James Dean?

  • Well said, i thought the same..

  • my pleasure lol

  • woow...

    what a voice!!!

    amazing

  • So amazing......................

  • darby.

  • Thanks, ugh. I think you're the first spotter of Mr. Crash. :)

  • I fell in love with Joe Strummer, also. =[

  • No Jeff Buckley? What a a beautiful dead boy..

  • Yes, his voice is lovely. His looks don't do much for me - don't repulse me, but don't do much. I'm inclined towards the bigger and furrier... ;)

  • Beautiful...really.

  • de-lovely

  • Yeah, they forgot a 'Dead Boy' literally when Stiv Bators wasn't included in this slideshow, and other Cleveland punks in Peter Laughner and Jim Jones of Pere Ubu. 3 Ramones, and Elliott Smith forgotten too. great slideshow and music however. kudos.

  • Yes, I should do a sequel.

Jim Jones was sweet - I remember getting a handwritten note on an order when he thought it had taken too long for him to fulflll it (I was expecting longer, based on the Ubutique caveats). Also sent me a t-shirt.

Yes, Stiv Bators would make sense. Of course, the choices were based on aesthetic responses to appearance, and, other than Joey, I didn't find the Ramones attractive.

As to Laughner - long story there. Meant to include him - put in a wrong picture.

  • I Fell In Love With A dead boy called River Phoenix

  • larrybOb, that is. Oops...

  • i fell in love with Brandon Teena <3 *O*

  • aww... the break before he says "I fell in love with you" is indescribable.

  • First time I saw Antony live at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco he did this song and the pause was even longer... and the audience was so quiet... amazing.

  • ooooh, hi, larrybyb! I somehow missed this comment until now. Nice to hear from you. ;)

  • How come no stiv bators? or brian jones, or bob mcbride, or mitch mitchell????

  • Well, it's only a 4 minute song, after all, and it's MY aesthetic tastes. :) Stiv Bators, I didn't mind in Lords of the New Church, musically, but didn't care for his looks much. Brian Jones, sad death, brilliant musician - not cute. I don't know who Bob McBride is. Mitch Mitchell, brilliant musician. I should do a sequel, I think. :)

  • Amazing, so poignant and heartwrenching. I love you for this!

  • Well, I don't think him particularly cute, though, if you search for my video of Patty Waters' "Moon Don't Come Up Tonight", there's a picture of him there.

  • And what about Jeff Buckley !!!

  • man, you've got good taste. the song's good too, but I'm talking about your choice for dead boys. death sucks

  • thank you, this is beautiful.

  • Thank you. It was, of course, a deliberate synch-up. :)

  • Great song, great video, I especially like that the images of Billy Tipton and Brandon Teena come up just as the "are you a boy or a girl" part is sung. Very moving.

  • shit! this must be THE BEST love song ever!!! it's also cool that you thought of these really beautiful boys, especially joe strummer :)

    really cool ;)

  • Thank you. I realize the pictures of Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan aren't them at their prettiest (Jerry was absolutely stunning in his youth), but try and find single pictures of them in their heyday!

But I thank you for your kind words.

  • Just beautiful Tim, many thanks for putting this song up. I listened to the small MP3 snippet on the A&TJ website and that 20 seconds was enough to make me cry. Being able to hear the whole song is such a treasure. Antony truly is an amazing soul.

  • Thank you.

All this praise is coming dangerously close to bolstering my self-esteem. Good thing I have a naughty boyfriend to undercut it. ;)

  • oh wow!amazing!

  • COOL GOOD JOB

  • OMG !

  • Thank you (I think ;) ).

  • no!! thank you !!! great video ! and u got the song I have been looking for ages ! Untill I remembered You Tube ! OMG !!! The song of my life ! Thank u so much ! But I must ask u something ...why do u think in the end of the song he asks him if he is boy or a girl ? We all agreed it's a dead boy ! huh ? I dont get that ...

  • I suppose it's because it's a beautiful boy, and, sadly, the word beautiful isn't attributed to boys very commonly (it's like a boy trying to talk about a boyfriend the same way a girl talks about a girlfriend - with two girls, it could mean like best friends - boys don't get that luxury (well, I do, but, then, I have boyfriends who ARE boyfriends... :) ). Plus, it could be a sly reference back to Miss Antony's own gender ambiguities.

  • Wonderful! Thanks for that!

  • Oh, dear, you are very much right, jolcom - teach me to do things in a hurry. This would seem to be Jimmy Zero from the Dead Boys (which, oddly, almost reflects on an earlier comment made here by a fellow whose own videos are quite disturbing and solicited my remark on including Arthur Lee and Jimi Hendrix).

  • A comment I have now decided to remove. Though his remark was innocuous enough, clicking on his name leads to a page full of white power nonsense.

  • You know, I wasn't totally sure either. It was a picture that came up when I searched for Peter Laughner - some people were hard to find in solo or featured photos (hence no picture of Billy Doll). I'll have to research that. Thanks for confirming my doubts... :)

  • That'll teach me not to act in haste. :)

  • Nice work, but I have to ask: are you sure that's a pic of Peter Laughner? I've seen a bunch of pictures of him, and that one doesn't seem quite right. Not saying it isn't for sure, just asking.

  • SOFT BLACK STARS. Now you can tell how often I listen to THAT selection. :)

  • Well, it's not the easiest track to get. It can be ordered through Antony's website in physical form (the CD single also has a cover of Julee Cruise's MYSTERIES OF LOVE and Current 93's SAD BLACK STARS).

  • this is such a beautiful song, ive wanted to get it for a while. but i cant find the cd on antony and the johnsons site. if you know the address i can purchase it from would you post it here please?

    awesome video btw

  • By the way, sadly, it would seem it is NOT available any longer, neither through Rebis Music (who seem to carry much of Antony's stuff, including a 7" I should get) nor Secretly Canadian nor even on Amazon. There are, of course, other channels, but I clearly have such respect for copyright I shan't name them... :)

  • i downloaded it from limewire, i can send it to anyone who wants it if they do

  • This was absolutely stunning - so poignant. Never heard this AATJ track before, but the comibindation was just so perfect. So many memories come to me now of passed friends. Thank you.

  • Beautiful compilation of images and Anthony's soulful androgynous voice!

  • Why, thank you, friend. I checked out your videos - good choices. :)

  • Fantastic picture of Freddie Mercury at the end, I'm glad you picked a very tasteful one. ^_^ I think it should have included Jeff Buckley...he's who I think of every time I hear that song.

  • Thank you, Williepe. :)

  • Really affecting. The whole idea. I had never heard the music (and don't know the singer ... yes, I live in a closet), so this video hit me like a train. Nice pic of Jobriath :)

    Simply excellent.
