its called super saturation . by heating the solution enough and adding so much sodium acetate that it becomes super saturated and once disturbed by agitation solidifies .
@folledyousucker your probably not preparing it right. There are other videos on youtube with good guides oh how to mix and make the solution. When you boil the water you want to make sure you keep adding the sodium acetate untill its not dissolving any more. If you used all of your acetate and its still dissolving you used to much water.
@DonWhon875 No USA does not to "get with the program!" get over it man. America did not want to be like Europe and the rest of the world when we broke free, henceforth we came up with the standard system. so we were diffrent from the rest of the world, if we go to Metric then we will be giving up one of our first symbols of freedom, and independance,
Hot ice is a chemical reaction the military developed for heat packs in the medic field. It is an exothermic reaction. You can create it with house hold chemicals. If you reconstitute the acid in vinegar by boiling it and adding sodium slowly stirring it in it will create same stuff.
lol who wants to buy just make your own using acetic acid made by getting vinegar a container and a smaller container filled with sodium hydroxide and cover container then after a few days u get pure acetic acid react with baking soda and done
@MingSimm when your making it, just keep adding sodium acetate untill you can tell its starting to not dissolve the sodium acetate into the water anymore. AKA saturated.
@ajmboarding No its not ice, and too all you people wanting to use it with edibals and such, well wouldnt. I just called it Hot Ice cause #1 its actually hot, #2 it LOOKS like ice.
So this goes out to everyone, because there seams to be some mis understanding, this is a HOT ICE trick, it is not cold, it is actually warm when it turns hard, and as far as TOXIC....well I'd say not to put it in anything you'd be digesting!
A couple of questions. Is the ice a hard solid? Is the solid toxic? If you sprayed it on somthing like a person( I WOULD NEVER DO THAT) (I was just wondering) would it like freez them? Lol. And what degrees (F') is the solid? Hope to hear your reply, best reguards, Chris.
you can make it using vinegar and baking soda and u put 3 tablespoons of baking soda for every liter of vinegar...boil til you see this crusty film on top take it our and put it in an ice bath and then you can scrap some of the white stuff on the side of the pan, or acetate trihydrate and drop it in the solution and it works, it will be slower cause its homemade
What if people are swimming in a pool and someone throws a bottle in. This stuff seems like an accident waiting to happen

People, it's a precipitate. Not ice. Just a product of a chemical reaction that isn't soluble in water.
