@TennisAnnalyst you know Roger is going to be 30 this year... he's not beating anyone if it goes 5 sets or even 4 sets... and madrid is fast clay...if it rains at the french...he's done
I think Federer is off the pace at the moment. Mentally he loses concentration. Also he has high level tennis but it isn't consistent enough with it. He won the 1st set against Nadal at Madrid serving 1st serve ar 46% !!! which is an amazingly low% to win anything. Then he went off again.
@surfjabroni i wasn't impressed with ferrer--no big weapon. no big weakness but he has no big weapon but he can grind. but that doesn't beat nowak, nadal, or verdasco...it could beat federer if it goes 5 sets.
Nadal was surprised and had no idea how to play him. He stuck with his usual formula, however Novak's backhand was unbelievable. He put winners down the line and cross court. Novak is mentally and physically tougher than ever before. He didn't play great in the Madrid semi but grafted out a win there.
@TennisAnnalyst Not really it depends on the context of which it is used. Nobody is misunderstanding what is meant by big hitting here. Both h10spro and I are referring to the speed of the ball since verdasco hits that type of shot.
The point is clay nullifies a lot of the advantage of hard / flatter hitters since it slows down the ball and the balls are heavier. The clay favors consistency (often spin), angles, and movement. All reasons why Verdasco sucks on clay.
@TennisAnnalyst dude--NOWAK catches the ball early and hits FLAT. check the highlights of their match--Djok was stepping into the baseline--every step into the court is like hitting another 10 miles an hour because of the shorter distance. look where Nadal is hitting from --five feet behind the baseline while Nowak is on the baseline--that's what I mean by hitting big--faster--pace
@hi10spro what does hitting big have to do with it lol? Especially on clay... Ferrer is a much better player than verdasco ... especially right now. Verdasco hits hard but has no mental strength and crumbles to any adversity. He loses almost every time he faces a top 15 in a big tourny. Ferrer took djoker to 3 close sets in madrid...
@thegarbageman21 Verdasco to me is a more dangerous player than Ferrer--he hits bigger--pace, angles, and he's lefty. Ferrer is not beating Nadal. Verdasco has an outside chance. I think Ferrer is really consistent and kind of a machine but Nadal is that plus he's a BIG hitter and lefty
@hi10spro Saying madrid is one of the FASTER clay courts goes against your argument ... That means the french will be even WORSE than madrid for pace hitters like verdasco and even Novak. It favors Nadal even more and with so many french titles nadal is the favorite but Djok is the guy to beat.
I see your point with verdasco but he has not upset anyone in a big tourney .... He has no mental strength. He is the one constantly being upset by lower seeds.
@thegarbageman21 and what did we say about Nowak. I'm afraid he might win the french...but we'll see--slower court, maybe some rain... but he was impressive...and i was shocked

@surfjabroni did you know they're playing with a babolat ball which is faster than the normal ball

Ferrer is mentally tough, fast and a good baseline player but his game his too 1 dimensional to challenge the top 3. He needs a plan B, more variety.

I want to like Verdasco but hes such an ass. A bad attitude.
Don't forget about Ferrer. Much better dark horse pick than almagro or verdasco. Ferrer took djok to 3 sets.

@thegarbageman21 i think ferrer isn't as big a hitter as Verdasco
