Hi, Thanks for this visual explanation. I have health issues that diaphragmatic breathing could help and even though I've watched quite a few vids, until i saw your demonstration, i couldn't quite understand what it was all about. Do you have any advice on how long i should practice exercise each day.
@interstellarbella The exercise shown is essentially a technique exercise that teaches how to perform diaphragmatic breathing. When using it as a technique exercise, 2-3 rounds of 2-3 minutes per day is effective. If you use the DB for relaxation, for example integrated with the corpse pose, 1 x 15-30 min will be useful in most cases
I can breath with my diaphragm but it doesn't feel like I'm drawing a satisfying, full breath. I just started, so will this change as I progress? Spank you (Thank you)
@DinoSwede Make your inhalation as deep as possible. Then, when you feel that you can't get more air in, attempt to "sniff" in a little more air through your nose - do this extra sniff 5 times - this is a strethc of the expiratory muscles that needs to have the proper length for a full inhalation to occur. Let me know, if it works
thanks for the info, so for barbell back squats should i be arching my back very tight and breathing through my diaphram by putting air into my belly and expanding my stomach and abs???
@tom88cba The explanation is too long for a post here and it is a controversial topic, but you should not arch your back. Breathing through diaphragm = yes. Expanding belly = no. Expanding the belly is akin to loosening your own weightbelt. "Pressing out" AGAINST a belt, so that no movement happens MAY work.
diaphragm??? No its called your Abs your abs are what control your lungs not your diaphragm. Your abs are suppose to suck in not out!!!

@12546958 I am sorry, but you have it backwards - you should invest in "A Course In Breathing" available from my website
