so are the queen marys sisters or mom and daughter????? there both freaking beautiful!!!!!!!! (even tho i may have enjoyed 1 a little more because i kinda find the older engeneering interesting.)
Awesome sight! My Dad sailed on the QM1 during the war on a three week journey round the Cape of Good Hope to North Africa. Very poignant reminiscence in his memoirs, being published by Pen and Sword. Visit fightingthrough.co.uk to learn more. Paul
QM2 does not look as nice as QM, but ALOT better than QE(3) and Queen Victoria! God those 2 ships are ugly! NO stern what so ever-like someone just broke the ship in 2 like the Titanic!!
I remember the first time I heard the QM2's horn. I was sitting staring at the ship knowing what was coming then BOOM. Made me jump xD It was the most awesome thing I ever heard in my life!!!
The Queen Mary in Long Beach is the last remaining remnants from the golden age of transatlantic passenger shipping. The Queen Mary 2 may be a genuine ocean liner, but she owes everything that she is to her predecessors. The true queen of the seas will always be Queen Mary. Master of the Blue Ribband and monarch of the seas.
I hear the new queen has one of the old queen's whistles, but the old queen still uses hers, every hour of the day, I used to listen for it when I lived in LB.
hey all you muppets who have never sail. Or and never will. this ship is a dream to most, QM2 is only in your dreams. have done them all. you be old one day,CUNARD will go on ,and on. ££££ so thats not you on the next cruise. A TRUE TRANSATLANTIC GIANT
The new so called queens do not have anything in common with the old cunarders. The QE2 was the last true queen. All that is coming now is just clever marketing. Carnival cruises just bought the "label" cunard to put that frankensteins like the the so called Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria into service and try to create nostalgic emotions. What a bullshit...but: Money talks - bullshit walks...*lol*
I wish the beatiful look transatlantic ships like the Titanic, Queen Mary, and those other similar ships could be here today. In my opinion, the cruise ships of today are ugly. The 3 or 4 stacks and the black and white with the bow being more slender and less wide bow is what makes the ship look its best.
Well, although the design of the QM2 is different from the old style Atlantic ships, she is still a very beautiful ship and does try to retain some of the old spirit of the old Queens. We are not the same people who crossed to europe in the 1930s, 40s, or 50s or 60s, and as culture changes, so do our artifacts. This spring will be my 5th time on the QM2, and as a child I crossed on both the old QM & QE. I loved them, and the big girl today has her own kind of grandeur.
Well in the past, Queens have been ocean liners (as opposed to cruise ships), and have been launched as new flagships to the Cunard line. That makes the QM2, which is both a flagship and a true ocean liner, the last true queen.
It would be nice, when they decide to finally end the Queen Mary (hopefully not in the near future)if she could set sail one last time with the current three queens, the QM2, QE2, and the brand new Queen Victoria
They are going to retire the Queen Elizabeth 2next year and to make her move again theywould have to put in like 5 boiler rooms and restore the engines. I would pay anything to ride on the Queen Mary
I know they are going to retire the QE2 next year, but they will have another Queen joining her, the New Queen Elizabeth (It's true, go to Cunard dot com)
i heard a while back that cunard accuired the white star line in wikipedia i heard or did they merge? i cant remember but you know what that means make the worlds safest most technologically advanced ocean liner and name it titanic 2 :)
I would agree... The Titanic was really a beautiful ship along with the others. The black, white, and orange paint scheme is the best too. They need to start making them like that again.
I was there and got it on film. I was able to go on a special Trans-Oceanic boat and travel around the ship. There were a lot of people on the boat and we made a full 360 around. You can see the boat I was on on 1:29, coming in from the nearest right. I'll put that video I filmed on YouTube soon. It was so much fun!
They removed the aft horn on the QM1, and restored it to working condition. They installed it on board the QM2 as soon as she entered into service. The horn you hear on the QM1 is just the forward whistle.
I was diappointed the honks weren't louder. I had rearranged my mail route so I could be "there" in time. The pier was pretty crowded that day. Maybe if it wasn't so overcast the horn would have sounded clearer?
why didnt the QM2 go closer to the QM1

I have to agree, the classic liners of the 1930's had much more appeal then and still do now. I hope thay evuntally revive it

Now that there are two Queen Mary's, what will they do with the seccond when It's done with its own career, I wonder?
I hope thet they put in a similar holding somewhere nearby.
