I agree. I don't see any difference between the old channels and the new ones. It's the compression that absolutely drives me nuts. I just want to receive HD content in its native form. A simple look at a photo that has been reduced to 80k from an uncompressed 4mb file will show what I am talking about.
Come by my house ill show u the difference. I run a total of maybe 40' of line from dish to receiver. Cable is miles and miles of line tell me you arnt losing signal. 1080 on cable who told u that?? Let me guess Time Warner LOL. Unless you are upconverting NO WAY is it 1080..
My only comment was to mention that a cable wire itself can easily transmit the 25Mbps HD signal with room to spare, regardless if it's 720 or 1080. Remember, it's all really about compression.
An Average Example: 1080i HD is compressed 83:1 at 12 Mb/s, while 720p is packed down by 74:1 at 12 Mb/s. This would mean that in some cases (not always) the 1080 and 720 signals take up the same amount of bandwidth. So any cable customer who can receive a 720 signal can receive a 1080 one.
If u want exclusive discounts for Directv reply to this post..my discount is usually $600-$800 off a year!!!

Satellite blows cable away!!!! The best cable is goin to give is 720(as of now) as opposed to 1080i sat.. HMMMM do the math

I have Time Warner Cable and receive 1080 content all the time. It really depends on what the show/live event is recorded in.
Satellite is just another means of transmission, so I wouldn't say it's better or worse, just different.
