I remember this song. The only boring one from the film! It sounds like most of the songs from the () album where he keeps repeating U Si Lo Fon over and over again. What's the story behind that?
@Sandyhendry simply put: we say that music is the universal language but that's bullshit because the lyrics are in a language, so what sigur ros did was to create music with lyrics that is universal. is it a great story or what?
@Sandyhendry It's not from ( ) at all, it's the title track from their first album, "Von". Von means hope, and the phonetic "language" that it's sung in is named after this track, "Vonlenska" or "Hopelandic" in English. All of ( ) is in Vonlenska as is Olsen Olsen from Agætis Byrjun, and parts of Takk. I think most of the "Endalaust" album is Icelandic, though.
first saw this as a music video on Alaska Airlines didgy. i recall it as black & white with family reunion. what a trip...so went and got the DVD --double--and shortly after somone ripped it off from my work and so here we go again...love Von & Nephyte 9
2biguns wow, just amazing comment, i couldn't even describe in words what feelings this song brings to my soul, and your comment ant attitude to sigur ros just perfectly fits mine :) cheers!
this is the song we have chosen as the intro to our wedding. sets the stage so beautifully for something so meaningful. we are getting married on a large dock overlooking Lake Muskoka (Ontario), so the music will be playing across the water as we make our way to the end of the dock & during our walk down the aisle. so moving!
Sigur Ros has been a band that has helped me through hard times. As I'm going through now. The music they create gives you an undescribable feeling. His voice is so genuine. And the music is breath taking. It shows the joy and happiness in life. No one will ever compare to Sigur Ros. I'm so thankful I found this band 4 years ago. I hope they stay around forever.
Sigur Ros helps me through the days that I know are the hardest. The days that we all feel -- when we don't know why we should get out of bed. There is music that we analyze and can ultimately understand, but when it seems like a song understands you, that's special. I can't describe it, but I feel like despite the fact that I can't tell what Jonsi is saying, he knows exactly what's going on in my head. Knowing that somebody understands makes everything better.
And reading your post helps me by knowing that I am not the only one who feels that way about Sigur Ros..
For the last ten years they have comforted, delighted & consoled me through some difficult & dark days..Seems a shame they have switched to singing in English (As has Jonsi on his solo releases)
Regardless they remain the music I would want to hear when I depart this mortal coil..
@lmbkid This is the beauty of music. When it is true...it is so much more than notes or words or visuals. It is the soul and it puts an arm around you and whispers in your ear that you are not alone.
Their music is so beautiful that I find it hard to believe that they are just people. It's beyond discription. The day I discovered their music it changed my life.
Tem tanta beleza e provoca tantas sensações divinas, e a ponto de serem perfeitas, que eu não ousaria tentar definir com palavras. Só quem ouve pode sentir o que o coração e a alma reconhecem no momento. *__*
the first time i heard this song i was driving my car and although i did not understand a single word of the song it just went straight to my soul i started feeling all kind of emotions...i just cried
I felt this song in my chest. It LITERALLY radiated through me. Sigur Ros is so Inspirational. Its the music I want to Share with the world yet keep to myself. This is the music I give to those special people, the ones that have a place in my heart. This song, this music, this band, warm my heart with each note, as do the people I give it to.
feeling Joy and Sorrow simultaneously is the perfect way to describe the emotional response to the music of sigur ros. Von can make me cry, whilst wearing a huge smile on my face!
When you strip back all the veneer of our modern lives we are still essentially spiritual beings. Music has been a key to unlocking our souls throughout human history, Sigur ros is just about the most beautiful key I posess.
@2biguns I feel the same way. I listen to Sigur Ros about 90% of the time. I think I will be listening to Sigur Ros for the rest of my life just as much as I do now.
This song and video conveys such deep feelings of family, community, togetherness, trust, peace, love. Just absolute beautiful perfection. Yet somehow sad because in my part of the world, so much of this is just ... missing. Such as it is and can be when so many live in the misleading comfort of fear.
This song is sung in something the band calls "Hopelandic", which is not really a language, but just the kind of vocals a songwriter puts on his song when he's sure about the melody but not the words. I hope that made sense :)
I love this song deeply, and it still puts a lump in my throat every time i hear it.
The best band of our time... I was tied between them and radiohead for a long time but they have been my all time favorite for a couple years now. Can't see any other band surpasing them. I saw them in Oakland and they made me cry, they sound just like this in concert.

This song convinced me that I had to change my life, so I did something I normally wouldn't have done. I'm glad I did because now I feel a lot happier and enjoy life again!
I love this. Everyone in the beginning is chit-chatting, getting coffee, getting food. Then when when Jonsi hits the first falsetto they all stop and watch in amazement. So touching.
