  • geex how bout Pylon, Love Tractor, Matthew Sweet, of Montreal, Oh-OK, the bands of Elephant 6 collective, plus a multitude of country/bluegrass. Something's in the water!

  • I remember Ballard when he worked at the Grit in Athens! Wow, I did not know he toured with Vic, really cool to see this!

  • Yep Nathan it sure is- a brilliant drummer- well a brilliant guy full stop!!

I love that guy and he's moved from Athens now, he is sorely missed!

Speaking of being missed- what happened to Vic is so tragic, words fail me but my thoughts are with his wife, family and friends! I first heard of him listening to 'Guilty by Association' and thought he was incredible.

    So sad!!

  • What a fucking disgrace, a great talent dragged down by a backward and selfish system. Saw him at the Union Chapel a few years and it was one of the greatest gigs I have ever seen.

  • Rest in Peace my man, may you continue in the best level of existance!!!

  • goodnight Vic. we needed you, but thanks for what you left. i wish wish life didn't hurt so much.

  • his lyrics are so funny, too. people for get that about him.

    peace to you vic

  • Una sociedad que deja morir a sus mejores hombres se merece a los peores gobernantes ( George W. Bush, Chenney, Rumsfeld and company)

  • Top man! RIP Vic

  • peace to Vic

  • I hate to say it but I had never heard of Vic until today. I only learned of him because of his death. I hope others will find him as well. Truly talented and unique! God speed

  • See you over there...

    Great musican !

    Fuck the american goverment

  • R.I.P.

  • I got to see him perform ten years ago. I loved the "About to Choke" Album.

He was also in the movie "Sling Blade".

A Great Song writer. Everyone should know about him.

  • What a great loss for this man to be gone; his songs have a lot of thought behind them. My condolences to his friends and family.

For titostacos: The man behind the desk is Craig Kilborn. Craig was the previous host of the Late Late Show in which Craig Ferguson is now host.

  • From Jem Cohen:

"The most important story to report now is not Vics death but a life and work overflowing with insight, humor, and yes, resilience. The second most important story here has to do with a broken health care system depriving so many of the help they need to stay around and stay sane, and a society that never balks at providing more money for more wars but fights tooth and nail against decent care for its citizens"

    Jem Cohen: Filmmaker

  • what a great song. R.I.P.

  • R.I.P.

  • Who's the guy behind the desk introducing him?

  • Craig Kilborne, former host of "The Late Show."

  • rest in peace my friend.

  • The song I was introduced to Vic was "Virginia"; such a sad and interesting drug.

Wherever you are, have a great time, my lovely man.

  • Fuck me, why!

I didn't even know his name 2 hours ago. Such a loss... RIP

  • Rest in peace.

  • hang in there bud

  • What is it about Athens Georgia? I am Canadian and of course we have this stereotypical idea of Southerners. But REM, the Replacements, this guy, what is in the water down there? I love it!

  • The Replacements were from Minneapolis, Mn.

  • go to southernshelter(dot)com for samples of good athens/regional music. the talent in athens often comes from all over the state, country, and globe mainly because athens is a hip town with a cheap cost of living and lots of venues for starving musicians to be noticed.

  • The Replacements were from Minneapolis.

  • @enialbsitruc

The Replacements are actually from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

  • @enialbsitruc

    arent the 'mats from minnesota?

  • @enialbsitruc The Replacements are from Minnesota, but you're right... a lot of great music comes out of Athens.

  • @enialbsitruc This town is awesome. basicly everyone you meat makes some form of music... just like me.

  • @enialbsitruc of montreal?

  • @enialbsitruc Replacements are not an athens band. But check out dexateens and Drive by truckers

  • @enialbsitruc dont forget Widespread Panic. Check them out. they collaborated with Vic and recorded an Album under the name Brute

  • @enialbsitruc LOL. Funny you mention because many here in the states refer to some Canucks using redneck undertones! (great bands come from the north too) Cannot leave out The Drive-Bye Truckers...or Pylon...or B-52's...or Georgia Satellites...or Love Tractor. The list goes on.....

  • @enialbsitruc Oh, and don't forget he collaborated on The Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Revisited". Great match up!!!!

  • @enialbsitruc I believe almost everyone from the Elephant 6 group is from Athens too. Fuck Seattle, Athens is where it was at.

  • @enialbsitruc Athens is Georgia's liberal wacko nuthouse.

  • @enialbsitruc minneapolis (home of the replacements) is pretty freakin' close to canada, you dumbshit

  • @danodono

Thank you for your kind comments and helping to reinforce the inaccurate stereotype of Americans that they are ignorant jerks who push their weight around.

    Signed: dumbshit...

  • now vic told me once that this is a fictional song, but it's "always a cracking me up" that my sister was the drum major when he was a freshman.

    LOVE VIC CHESNUTT!

  • Vic's an absolute diamond - a wicked man with the words!

  • That Drummer KICKS ASS!!!! smooth MF

  • crap

  • Agreed... I've heard of this guy for years and heard the fresh air interview recently. I feel sorry for the fact that he's going broke because of medical issues and our society where people say "I have coverage, fuck everyone else". But this isn't great music. I can see why he was dropped from the label. It's folk rock, stuff I have heard over and over. Tired old chords. Nice lyrics. I never understand the hoo-ha over Tom Waits either, but I bet it caters to the same folks. IMO, crap, FWIW

  • I dunno my own camp experiences weren't like "Fire Lake" at all. They were more like some bad eighties

  • Vic is a fantastic songwriter.

  • awesome

  • Cool.

My dad's the one who taught him how to play the guitar.

  • Thanks to your dad!

  • I was lucky enough to see Vic Chesnutt perform live in New York. I guess it was over a year ago. He is totally awesome and I`m in awe of his songwriting especially the way he uses such vivid, fun words and makes stories with his songs. Love this song too, thanks for uploading it.

  • A fantastic song by a fantastic songwriter.

  • why was this marked as spam?

  • Wow, that IS a blast from the past, indeed. Thanks for the link Curtis. Good to see you all again.

    KrisB

  • Excellent harmonies.

Is that Walter Matthau on drums?
