  • Imagine a boy and girl, about 19, maybe 20, setting out in a light blue '67 Volkswagen for California that June morning 1970. My Mom hated her. Her Dad threatened me with a shotgun. We didn't give a damn because, our love was a power unto itself and with each other we could never fail. We rode the highway, with our cat Miles through the flatlands of Kansas, the Majesty of the Rockies and finally into the 'Promised Land' of Cali. Our hopes were stoked looking into each other's eyes.

  • @jeff62rey So what happened? Don't leave me hanging Bro!

  • @jeff62rey Re: comment about leaving with a girl in June 1970. You didn't finish the story! Are you still with her? I have been married 31 years without regret. Life is beautiful....

  • @jeff62rey Wow. Nice writeup jeff62. Reading your comment reminded me of my solo trip in 1974 from Florida to Cali in my 1967 blue bug (still have it today) and playing this tune multiple times over the 4 day journey. A lady was also involved.

  • @jeff62rey And.........how are things going for you both now?? Don't leave us all hanging!!!

  • @jeff62rey MAN WHEN MUSIC WAS PURE

  • @jeff62rey are you all still together....

  • I will never have another dog again. They die in ten years and it always destroys me. For those who can do it or rescue a dog, God bless you.

  • @StanBennet Get another dog...it will repair your heart...and you get to spend the next 10 years with another amazing entity...

  • @StanBennet

I had this on a 45 my Shepherd of 14 years passed in February got another Shepherd rescue the same week. It stills the hardest thing that I ever went through in my life glad to see someone out in the world with a hart.

Disco (that was his name) is also on here “The dog that can feed himself”

  • @StanBennet After I lost Heidi 2 years ago I said the same thing and meant it, but God put another wonderful friend in my life last year. Just try to enjoy every day.

  • Tracy and I took off on that late July afternoon of 1970 in nothing but my faded blue V W wagon, a sack of canned soups, 6 bottles of Pepsi, and a whole lotta dreams that only a couple of 19 year olds crazy in love could conjure up.

  • My memory may be a bit hazy, but I think my mom bought this 45 for me every Christmas between '71-'77. lol

  • @lincoln2ish Greed...........

  • used to sing this song with my mom when she drove me to elementary school. I miss her.

  • Great song and great memories.

  • HEARING THIS SONG, I WISH IT WAS POSSIBLE TO BE ABLE TO GO BACK IN TIME TO THE YEAR OF 1971 (LIKE SOMETHING ALONG THE LINE OF "BACK TO THE FUTURE") AS IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF A YOUTH CLUB (I WAS A MEMBER OF ) DISCOS WAS ONE OF THE SONGS THEY PLAYED ALOT. OH HAPPY DAYS!.

  • I´m from germany. No party without this song. Thanks Lobo :)

  • My sister and I used to make my aunt play this for us when would visit her back in the 70's we called it the boo-boo dog song......

  • This song reminds me of an adventure of my youth. My dog name was King and we were going through Tenn. and Kentucky.I ended up on my own with King and no car,but dam we sure had fun,and we did live off the land.Only we never got caught stealing eggs or anything else. Those sure were some good ole days.We ended up staying in Kentucky for about a year,me an King. When we finally made it home King was killed by a car the next day.I owe my life to u boy.You saved me back in those Kentucky hills.R.I.P.

  • @57potra. I really like that story. I was only thinking about travelling round Amercia when I was younger. Being from Britain it's really great to appreciate such vastness.

  • Wow. This song reminds me of northern New Mexico. It's where I lived when this song played SOOO many times on the radio when it came out.

  • I WAS BORN IN NOVEMBER 68 AND THIS IS THE FIRST SONG I CAN REMEMBER LIKING AND KNOWING. GREAT SONG!

  • i had a dog named spot. one day i spilled a bottle of spot remover on him....now he's gone.

  • I love this song. Thank you for posting.

  • I had this on a 45 when I was a kid. I used to listen to it on my portable Emerson record player. It had a scratch in it, so when I hear it now I still expect it to skip over one particular line over and over.

  • Awesome song - definitely takes me back to the 70's - a teenager without any worries and too dumb to see what a ****ed up world I'd be living in 30 -40 years later.

  • Nikki and me and a dog name Karl. But o what a summer it was back in '71. Nikki and I were Juniors and school was out. We lived in the rual part of NW Ohio. Rural hicks, I know, but a young black haired, geeky guy and a pretty, shoulder length blonde girl as cute as you could imagine hangin' together the whole summer. Driving around the country in my mom's Rambler. Catching movies. Drinking shakes at Oldmars. Steaming up the car during those hot, humid Joly nights. Sweet memories!

  • it remainds me of being Good.....

  • Great tune, great memories to go with it. Would kill to be a teenager in the 70's again!

  • Great pics for a great song.

My dog is named Foo, and it cause of this song. I no it aint Boo, but I thought i would change it up.

He's half springer spaniel and half border collie.

he my best friend, and he listens to these old songs with me on Saturday nights, with a few beers, Ok maybe a few more than a few. And man, no song today, has the feel of the oldies.

    Crestedwoody

  • Yeah my dog was named Boo back in the 70s..thanks LOBO

  • The ultimate driving song! Captures the freedom of the open road, the grandeur of the USA, with your girl at your side and of course your faithful dog!!!

  • when i was a lil kid i named my dog boo cause i loved this song and we had red clay in north carolina

  • This is just too great.... "me & you & a dog named boo"~talk about memories! Just what I needed right now, to go back in time. Love the video you put with the song. Thanks for this! :-)

  • Having lived in the Twin Cities area back in the 1980's I get a kick out of the line about the wheat fields of St. Paul. Minnesota grow corn, corn, corn, and even more corn!

  • I feel like this warm rush running through my body when I hear this song. It makes me wish I back home back in the 70's, when life seemed so much simpler. God, I hope my kids could have just seen us back then - carefree and looking at the world as if nothing could go wrong. I love this music - and I will never forget those times!

  • Traveling the country, no strings attached. Just what many young people dream of, and a few actually do. .No wonder it was a hit, all those years ago.

  • how can you dislike this song?

  • @its420somewhere7- I totally agree with you! Ron

  • @its420somewhere7 TRUE,!!

  • @its420somewhere7 who could not love this if they do they have nosoul

  • I remember when this song first came out, and I always loved it. This was the way people tried to live in the 1960's, being free and doing what you want. The lyrics still give me a good feeling when I listen to them.

  • Man, thanks for posting. Haven't thought of this song in SOOOOO long :)

  • @TeddyMadison- you are very welcome! Ron

  • @rwells47 I would like to say thanks as well. Cheers for this

  • @TeddyMadison reminds me traveling across country to califorina and enjoying life as it was

  • My german shepherd is called Boo . i havent heard this for such a long time , makes me feel old now !!

  • Christ, some of the simplest lyrics can really pull at the strings. "My" song since '71. Kept it to myself though. What with The Stones, The Who, Sabbath, Deep Purple etc at the time, guess I just couldn't have taken the ribbing if school mates had found out I loved this. I wonder if any of them liked it too but thought the same. Might take the trouble to find out at the re-union in Aug. Cheers Lobo.

  • I had a dog named Simba, and in first grade I accidentally spelled it "Simbu." From then on his nickname was "Boo." Me and my dad would sing this in the car when we took Simba somewhere with us. He died a few years ago because his kidneys shut down on him and we had to put him to sleep. I miss you Boo! <3

  • @CoheedxSkate- Rest in Peace Boo!

  • @rwells47 Thank you :)

  • @rwells47

    Rest in pieace Boo.

Mans best friend always, no matter what.

Love em, remember him, and always remember, he loved you too !!

    Crestedwoody

  • @CoheedxSkate I'm with you on this one, Bailey, my girl passed of old age, she was with me at all times and everywhere... I'm a trucker, and well things just aren't the same now.

  • @TonyB08 I'm sorry :( but at least we'll see them again one day. and they'll only be gone for a little while, so we can remember the happy times when they were here until we see them again :)

  • @CoheedxSkate Dogs are special, I am sorry for your loss. At least you have good memories.

  • @CoheedxSkate What a moving story! Rest in God's Peace, Boo.

  • @CoheedxSkate I know how that feels, I'm with you in this. I lost my Bailey to congestive heart failure. I'm a trucker and she went everywhere with me. I miss her.

  • @TonyB08 My Baby's in Dallas ,just heading out to Mephis this morning, hmm I miss him ! I just wish for him a dry , open road, the sun at his back and a safe haul today :) I am sorry you lost your Baily :)

  • Helló!

Én most vagyok 58 éves, én boldog vagyok.

Első szerelmemmel együtt énekeltük ezt a dalt Magyarországon a '70 évek elején 38 évig.

A mai napon 21-06-2011-én, véletlenül bontakozó második szerelememtől megkaptam de most Franciaországban. Vajon ezt hány évig fogjuk együtt énekelni? Oly rövid az élet, ez a dal elkísér...

  • I remember me and my mom and dad singing along to this song rolling down I 45 towards conroe, tx heading for Grandmas on Thanksgiving during my early teen age years. Always brings back good memories. Now I'm a dad and sing it with my daughter as we cruise down the freeway to granmas. Windows down and stereo cranked. Thanks for the song and the memories.

  • @Texasdad21-you are very welcome!

  • When I am lucky to stumble across a free-spirited song like this which takes me back to my early teen years, I just shake my head and wonder just what the hell has happened to our country. How far down into the pit of depression we have fallen. It really is sad and regrettable. Now, we are but mere robots and economic slaves who exist merely to satisfy the unrelenting, never ending appetites of the federal, state and local governments that do nothing but beat us down and keep us in servitude.

  • @porkulate your words are true spot on im glad others see what governments do also the untrue propaganda governments dish out to control people

  • ive always loved this song . and this version is great

  • love this song I got out of the Army in 73 and drove home from Georgia to

Idaho and this song still take,s me back :)

  • great road song!!!!

  • When Roland Kent LaVoie taped this song, he and his manager were so concerned that this song would be considered "gimmicky", and that Roland would be labeled a "one-shot Joe", so Roland hid behind the name of Lobo. LOL. Little did they realize that this song would help catapult Roland into stardom.

  • Really miss those days. Had friend in England called John Parker. He found a way to keep the sound track and put his vocals over the top... wonder where you are now old friend. Love this song.. don't like very much of what is out there today.

  • this was my favorite song when i was just a kid thanks for putting it here. i really enjoyed it ..it brings back so many memories

  • @john88480- you're very welcome! Ron

  • Takes me back to a simpler time and place...wish I could relive those times...

  • awesome song....before my time tho, was born in 76, i really like lobo he's got some good songs......and today,,,,, we have,,,........lady gaga. right.....
