  • Its pretty good car if you are not one of those wild freaks who go to race in the dark. Go for it if you wanna feel the drive and control of this great car. Beware of freaks who will say you to go for a drift, cuz this car needs you to get used to it.I was feeling that difference shifting to GTO from the FTO i sold last year.

    As for me I have a 1997 SL 3000gt and Im looking to sell it to buy a 94 or later VR-4.

    I love my SL but its pretty weak with automatic transmission and no twin turbo in it. A lot of weight for too little power, its all show and no go which bothers me. Im trying to set some cash aside to make up the extra value.

  • Lol, my car weighs 3737 lbs, and the Lightning weighs 4600 lbs. 863 lbs isn't quite a factor of 3 buddy. Plus it has 60 more horses. Anyway, the Mustang had the disadvantage of being both a RWD car and of course being a Mustang. He never "gave up" as I spoke with him afterward. As for the parking lot, it was wet, and I did what we call "Doughnuts", not "Drifting". Get your facts straight. Ahem, Hater.

  • I don't know why - but the 3000 GT (any flavor) has been my favorite since the mid 90's.

    I mentioned to my wife the other day that I would like to get a 3000 GT VR4 and completely re-do it. New paint, interior - rebuild the engine etc.

    I was told that it would become my "permanent residence" if I were to purchase it.

    Oh well, perhaps in a few more years.

  • I used to have a first gen VR-4 without the moonroof. That thing was fun as hell to ride in, but I wasn't old enough to drive it.

    Then, just before my birthday, the timing belt snapped, and we had to sell it... kinda makes me sad, now, lol.

    I'm on the hunt for that thing now. And I'm not letting the same thing happen to this one. :D

    Oh, and that list of cars is just made of win. To hell with Domestic cars, lol.

  • Agreed! NSX,3000GT, Supra=90's supercar speed and looks without the price tag! NSX may be the best engineered car to run high 12's without having 300hp and weighing more than 2000 lbs (cough lotus)

  • That is a 1997-98. Those are the only two years where the VR-4 had the hoop style wing. 94-96 had the low profile GT style wing with active aero.

  • all r 6spd manuals and u can find them from 10-20k depending on their year, mileage, condition, etc.

  • not all are 6spdz, only the 94 and laters are 6 spd, 91,92,93 have 5sp getrag tranny

  • There are three models, the Base, the SL and The VR-4, the VR-4 is Twin Turbocharged from the factory, that is the Top of the Line 3000GT.

  • Yeah, visually you can't really tell them apart except for their badging. The difference is the Twin Turbo's, All Wheel Drive and All Wheel Steering. But you still have a very nice car, take care of it!

  • yea man i love my SL if someone gave me 50 grand right now i wouldnt sell it. i have 484 hp on it, i reduced the weight, have vertical doors, brownish orange with sweet wheels, man i love it, i dont even think i would exchange it for a viper.

  • AWD will rape a Supra off the line, then it's weight would bog it down slightly. On Turbo though that won't happen... They've evenly matched for the most part, except for the launch when the AWD will rape the Supra even harder. From a roll though I think the Supra would be faster, unless you go on a track where i think the AWD would dominate.

  • No, it's actually safer to do so. They are fog lights and just help to increase visibility for the driver and other motorists on the road.

  • Me personally I would by a brand new car with brand new everything as eventually you will be doing alot of repairs down the road. But that would be me. Sure the 3K gt's are nice looking if in good/stock looking condition(far as the outside is concerned). I would just buy a brand new car so you dont have to worrie about anything. look at the new camaros,or the new ZR1 vette, or whatever you like. The new camaro's looks prettie nice.

  • well, if you want a new car you can find a newer model dohc 3000gt vr-4 thats been very well taken care of. driven by old people or somthing and its as good as new trust me. i bought mine from an old man and havent had any problems with it really. only problems are brakes and a tensioner pulley

  • The normal ones are all right. just depends on your wallet. If you got the cash to mod your care do it. Thats all really comes down to, money really. You can make any car go fast as longs you got the money to do so. Vr4 has a very high maintenance. All depends on how far you want to go far as mods is concerned.

  • From the factory the VR-4 has over 100HP more than the SL (218 vs. 320). Also it's all-wheel-drive, all-wheel-steering, and much faster. The SL is still a very nice car and can be modified to be a very tough competitor too.

  • Yes the rear wheels turn in phase with the front at speeds above 31 miles per hour. This helps tremendously with high speed cornering and reduces body roll.

  • I said howmuch the air and the fuel can be compressed. When you compress the air, the fuel is injected in the cylender then burn up. That is what I mean, I meant the Compression stroke. you are so silly. And yeah laugh harder, mechanical engineering don't know shit about car, they know how to calculate shit and design shit CNC autocad... Car ? That needs Automotive Science.

  • Ok... So just to clear things up! The Spoiler is the Original Spoiler that came on the '98 VR-4. The car was stock when video was shot. And it is difficult, but possible to do these types of donuts with this AWD car. Just requires some experience with the car. Both races were "legit", though nothing I was too proud of considering it was just a GT and a Lightning. Maintenance is not too bad if you take care of the car and maintain it by the book! Anything Else???

  • The Mustang's got a 4.6l V8 against the 3000GT's 3.0l V6. Any car with a turbo is faster than the same car without a turbo, but your just being stupid if you think a Smart Roadster (with it's 600cc turbo 4) can match anything with 2 litres or above.

  • you have no idea what you are talking about. Do you even know about car ? It doesn't matter about how many cylender a car have. It matter about howmuch compression a car can hold, it's displacement, it's cam lobe, howmuch air and fuel can be compressed at what ratio...etc. Turbo is a design to pull air faster. Learn more before u speak

  • HAHAHA! I'm a mechanical engineering student, I know a hell of a lot more than you do. For a start, turbochargers push air (by building pressure) and fuel can't be compressed (just about no liquid can). I know you don't speak English very well, but I know what I'm talking about.

  • Done get me wrong they are very fun car to drive but just be prepared if you indeed get one of theses cars. Just take it from me. Alot of grief,costly,repairs,etc. Even if parts are brand new, still something happens. So if you want one of theses cars just be very well prepared, especially if nothing has been changed on that car since stock. Good luck all I got to say.

  • Transmissions usually go but sick cars..

  • My shop that works on theses cars every single day told me this:

    1 out of 3 of our oil pump is out of spec. Also our oil system in theses cars are very weak.

    Eariler transmission was more prone to damage cause of the 18 spline transmission but I heard its alot better with the 25 spline. fars I understand the later models were also 4 bolt as opposed to 2 in the eariler gen.

  • Very tough to maintain. If your thinking about getting one of theses cars, take it from me, bitch to maintain and very costly, and be very well prepared on whats going to happen next far as future repairs.

  • cause now insurance is going to think its a race car so it can only be insured if its for racing or for show only, not daily driving. I found mine but boy was it tough as hell. Some had insurance overseas, like in europe. Car is very hard to maintain anyways, even if everything is brand new on the car, expect something to happen. Car is like having a wife with 2 kinds.

  • the hardest part to find an insurance if when you mod the car heavinly. Granted I had a very tuff time finding an insurance cause all of the modifications done to the car. If its stock then you can find an insurance prob without a problem but soon as you do heavy mods, finding an insurance that can cover that is slim to none.

  • Try to get it imported from either Japan or The United kingdom, they sell it for prices like from $800 and up, because in japan they don't drive these,they'd be more than happy to import it,but since you're in poland it's possibly cheaper to have it imported from UK

  • i got my twin turbo stealth when i was 22. i got progressive insurance and for liability i only pay 62 bucks a month, car is firestorm red too. and just so u know its not a sports car, if u ever seen a brochure or ad when the cars came out they are a grand touring car, and thats what it is on my insurance. gotta love those little things, saved me money.

  • At your age oh yes cause its considered more at risk. If you want to be more curious, check how much it would be to insure under your parents name(this is what I would do more then likely as its going to cost prettie high. If its a 1999 tah ha ha, insurance will be a killer at your age.
