If you people try these things and quit and ask questions after the first error you receive, give it up. You don't have what it takes yet to get into this stuff.

you have to have an innate sense of fortitude and determination along with a lot of curiosity to get good with these tools and how to defend your networks against such attacks.

@Anzuo Let people frolic with GUI's, but why work extra when something is already there for you. I doubt anyone would want to learn C or C++ (which is what Linux OS's are mainly written in) just to play around on their LAN. ARP poisoning is kids stuff, but people are interested and it's videos on ARP poisoning they'll get. Real hackers work on SQL injection and other database access.

@KeenCode No, MYSQL Injections /XSS is Web cracking, ARP poisoning/ Sniffing/ Metasploit are just different .

Cracking / Hacking is universal, and im sure the tcp/ip and arp protocols are way more difficult to understand than a simple web database.

@DigiTan000 Bored a week ago, so I was trolling hacking pages. Also, I am doing my part to bring some dignity and prerequisite intelligence back to hacking.

People who want results before they have the knowledge (i.e. all the people who use this tutorial) annoy me.

Furthermore, you do not (or at least should not) "start out" doing something as advanced as this, simply because someone has created a simple GUI. Hacking is about thinking outside the box. This video promotes the opposite.

Run it as root

In your terminal, type in sudo su

Enter your password

Then type ettercap -G

alright im running this in backtrack 3. i scanned for hosts and 4 showed up: me, modem, another computer and an xbox 360. i set the router as target 2 and the other computer as target 1 and ran arp poisoning. then i went to manage apps and did check poison and im getting "no poisoning at all :(" what could be a few things causing this?

If you are using linux you mast start program as root from terminal. In ubuntu try sudo ettercap -G

Start Arp poisoning then open a sniffer like wireshark to see if you get data. Cain and ettercap only show you passwords

you need to pick a client and the default gateway. Also, there needs to be traffic between the two to get data. If your on that big of a network there maybe security to prevent arp poisoning
