  • How cute.

But I couldn't help thinking he should've got Springer Spaniels -- they'd have beat him in the pool. :)

  • my basset drowned in a pool.. very sad, Best to teach them when they are young,,

  • Bassets are not supposed to swim. If you notice they are shaking their heads alot. You are supposed to put a life jacket of some sort on them. If not supervised they will drowm.

  • Not very wise. Her ears must have been loaded with water.

  • Cute

  • I though bassets were too top heavy to swim :O

  • how do you get your dogs in the pool? o_O

  • My dog's a english springer spaniel and he won't go near the water o_O

  • That is awesome!!! My basset hates the water. No amount of food would get him to jump in.

  • @christedge My Maxwell will not go in any kind of water. I have the trick him to even get him in the bath tub.

  • Funny how there's people saying that basset hounds aren't suppose to swim, are afraid of water blah blah blah..... when this video clearly proves that they're completely wrong! Both dogs have a great relationship with their owners, and that's a beautiful thing! :)

  • @xikoxikogarcia They'd easily drown in an ocean or river or lake or someplace not a pool that has no moving water and has people easily able to save the dog incase it does. Basset's legs are too short to be effective swimmers, I doubt they could do what they did in the video for very long, and as you could see, the only reason they did was for the snack...

  • The people that think the dogs didn't want to swim have obviously never had a Basset Hound.....Bassets don't do anything they don't want to do!!!! LOL You have a couple of lovely girls there!!!!!

  • Now that is how to teach a land animal how to swim.

  • For some reason, I thought Bassett hounds either couldn't or weren't supposed to swim because of the way their bodies are. I guess I'm wrong. Oh well.

  • huh... I always thought my basett would sink if I brought her in the pool. which terrifies me cuz I live on a river.

  • @SuckySims Your a idiot with no experience with dogs.bassets need to swim and he is training them for a reason they might need to swim some day

  • omfg I cant even watch this anymore. This video disturbs me, and you disgust me. IF YOU WANT AN AGILITY DOG, GET A RETRIEVER. Bassets will drown, and they are terrified of water in general. Go to hell, where you can watch your dogs drown over and over again because of your stupidity. You terrible, evil, mindless, cruel, BEAST. Stay away from those dogs.. you are clearly incapable knowing an animal's limits.

  • @SuckySims You are way overreacting. I totally understand that you care about animals but the dogs are in no danger here. The first one willingly went into the pool for a treat and even came back for seconds. The second one did look nervous but she was never in danger of dying.

  • @SuckySims - sorry, I don't agree with you at all. These two dogs are obviously well-loved and are given a great learning opportunity by their owners. I have a 15-year old basset hound and I can tell you for a fact that he is not terrified of water at all and he can swim. Don't ever underestimate the inherent ability and tenacity of this lovely breed. Retrievers aren't the only breed that can be trained.

  • OH MY GOD THE SECOND ONE DOESNT EVEN WANT TO GO IN!! YOU CAN EASILY TELL THAT SHE'S FRIGHTENED AND DREAD SWIMMING IN A DEEP POOL. WTF WHAT IF YOU HAD TINY LEGS AND YOU MASTER WAS PRETTY MUCH FORCING YOU TO GO SWIM AND YOU COULDNT FEEL THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL OR EVEN LOOK DOWN TO SEE WHAT WAS BENEATH YOU?!?!?! THOSE DOGS ARE A NERVOUS WRECK YOU SHOULD GO TO PRISON FOR BEING SUCH AN IDIOT. DOGS HAVE FUCKIN FEELINGS TOO. SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST TOO DENSE TO SEE IT

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! BASSETS CANT SWIM, ONCE MY BASSET FELL IN OUR POOL AND ALMOST DROWNED. HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU LETT YOUR DOG SINK INTO THE POOL BEFORE SHE COULD DO TAHT?! IT TAKES ALL THEIR STRENGTH WITH THEIR LITTLE LEGS TO EVEN STAY ALIVE, AND YOU MAKE A FUCKIN GAME OUT OF IT?!?!?!?! THOSE POOR DOGS ARE PROBABLY TERRIFIED. THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What adorable basset hound bitches. I love a basset hound. They are so lovable.

  • I AM SO JEALOUS OF THESE PEOPLE. THEY HAVE A POOL AND BASSET HOUNDS....

    they're living my dream.

  • @danceislove314 especially... he has bassethounds! They are much beautiful than pool! :P

  • training will only help alittle bit their bones are very dense thats why they are so heavry

  • Basset hounds are not suppose to swim. They are not ''water-type'' dogs if you know what I mean. :l

  • If I wanted my Basset hound to swim I would put her in a tiny pool I would probably put her in a pool that is 1 foot or I would put her in a few inches of water

  • Basset hounds have webbed feet so they might be able to swim but I would probably not try it

  • My Bassett Maggie fell into my girlfriends pool this las summer. She's a small Bassett weighs 36 lbs. All she could do was try to keep her head above water! She looked like a a stick floating on water! She keep sinking vertically to the bottom of the pool. Her backend isn't heavy enough to dog paddle! Thank God my girlfriends dog alerted me of the problem before she drowned! Some Bassett's just are not meant to swim! ;(

  • My friend had a Teacup Chihuahua named Tellulah and they found her drowned. 

  • Boy filhas das putas

  • With the size of their paws they must be good swimmers. A little training is good.

  • our basset Daisy does NOT like to swim, although she is perfectly capable of doing so. Her back end is very buoyant (!) so all she needs to do is paddle with her front legs. :)

  • Very odd that they can swim so well! Most bassets have too dense of bones to swim without assistance (life jacket). All my foster bassets have to wear jackets or else they'd sink. Fun video!

  • I thought bassets can't swim

  • @Bpspdabest I have always heard their bodies were to dense to swim also.

  • @Bpspdabest too right, basset bones are super dense so they drop like a stone in water.

  • torture

  • be careful some bassets will sink like rocks

  • *gasp* I. LOVE. THE NAME TALLULAH!!! when i get a dog of my own i actually wanna name 'em that..either that

  • make sure dry their ear D:!or they will sick!

  • A cat to come to watch the video.

  • Any read Where the Red Fern Grows it's a sad book :(

  • @bananaguy123456789 i have!the bassets on the cover are soo cute! :)

  • Wow love how they managed to get across the water so wonderfully. Please can you tell me in response how can I teach my dog Ozzy how to swim?

  • now that is just TOO TOO TOOOOOO CUTE!

  • AWWWW what a good Girl!!! My bassett would prob need alot of coaxing as well.

  • we have been blessed with a Basset named Saddie Ann she is a puppy mill survivor, she is so amazing, very loving to all, her best animal friend is our house Mini Rex rabbit, they play continuous . Your girls are adorable ..

  • They are soo cute !!!

  • Using the tail as a rudder hahaha

  • I have a basset hound named sasha and she loves swimming in the mississippi river! All she needed was to see me swimming and she copied me

  • I am surprised they can even swim with those little legs.

  • Just be very careful with the pool water. Bassets have sensitive skin and the chlorine can hurt them.

  • great names

  • congratulacions talullah. they are so cute :)))

  • Viv was like gimme my chip and I am outta here

  • awh, they are so cute (: and so good! :D

    i love Basset Hounds! ;D

  • Not recommended to have bassets swimming esp. in the pool... but I guess this is a good lesson for them... and plus they are older ... but always keep Bassets away from a pool unsupervised....

  • @hannahjoelydia True, their heads and chests are very heavy in comparison to their hind ends and they tire easily.

  • that is cute

  • This is so funny !

  • SO CUTE

  • isnt it bad to get water in the ears for any dog?>..

  • I thought bassets could not swim? Don't they sink?

  • Bassets have the heaviest and densest bones of all dog breeds, which is why you should never leave them alone in a pool. They can easily drown.

  • great vid thanks :)

  • My bassette pup Sal hates swimming he's scared of water lol and it's not good for their ears to get wet

  • Lol my basset hound timmy swims in the bath tub (hes a puppy so hes still small enough to do that....sometimes)

  • Ah so amazing, my Bassett 'oscar' hates the water, at the most he will paddle in a stream :)

  • Being tall such as 6ft is an advantage in swimming ?

  • I KNOW, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE WEBBED FEET THE POOR THINGS AREN'T GOOD SWIMMERS...AHHH

  • haha 0:40 the dog is saying "give me that treat or i'll shit in your bed"

  • The why how they swim is so cute

  • There are so Cute and adorable.

  • They are gorgeous girls!

  • See, I've heard that Basset Hounds have very dense bones so they sink like rocks in water, but I remember the basset my family had when I was young really enjoying a swim every once in a while. Perhaps he wasn't a full basset.

  • Just so the general public knows--Basset Hounds and Water are a BIG no-no,. They drown very easily. Put them near water, and there's a very good chance they'll sink like a stone no matter what this video is showing. It's a basic Basset fact.

  • cool! I'm going to get a puppy of this breed next month, but i thought they couldn't swim because of their heavy bones. I liked to watch this.

  • I have had bassets all my life and never saw them swim before! I am seriously LOL'ing!!!

  • basset hounds usualy arent big swimmers because their bones are so dense but it is funny watching them swim

  • I tried with my Snoopy he sinks like the Titanic! If I didn't hold his buns up hecwould have drowned.

  • Wow that was cute! Tallulah is Mark Spitz!

  • At 1:50 the other dog was like gimme tha cookie and I am out of here

  • it is true... they can swim.... soo cool

  • my mam said dat basset houndscant swim

  • I think it's a smart move to teach your dogs to swim. Just like with human children who cannot swim, terrible accidents can happen in a second around places like pools. Your teaching them a very important survival skill that could save their lives. Good work!

  • That old looking on is just going to town, man! Super cute. Mine hates all forms of water. But she was kept in a pen and didn't have any visitors or baths when she was growing up.

  • AWWWWW that is like epic cuteness I love bassets my very first dog was a lemon female named star she was so like chill but she loved showers so i think if i had a pool back then she would have loved to go swimming!

  • Got to love that , looks like a torpedo with ears and n tail. i have two bassets as well .

  • AH! not true, she just needed the assistance of my hand to give her the courage. Like training wheels.

  • @rlewis1 bassets have the buoyancy of lead.

  • poor dog lol, i saw you drag the poor thing into the pool =)

  • I wish my basset was that food motivated. He might actually willingly go into the pool.

  • How old are they?

  • Mine is also afraid of water, I thought it was a weird quirk of his, funny to hear others of the breed also have this trait.

  • Aw, how cute! I thought Bassets' bones were too dense to swim, though... I guess they can.

  • my basset is like the second one, she doesn't like swimming at all.

  • they are not for swimming but it is good you are teaching them

  • swims better than me lol

  • jajaja that's awesome!

  • My basset hound Flynn wont get in any water, weather its a pool or a puddle, if he is about to go into a puddle he will go around it.

  • pablo, so sorry to hear that. Always been a fear of ours. first time tallulah fell in a pool she sank like a rock. luckily i saw it and jumped in after her. now i think they could struggle their way out, but its scary business.

  • bassets usually sink...well mine did. the vet said its because his body structure was dense, i miss my Buddy

  • anything for a cookie :)

  • Cute my basset puppy doesn't like water!

  • To cute :)

  • i didn't think basset hounds could swim with there short legs

  • cute

  • Comment removed

  • omg. i though basset hounds couldn't swim at all! .. was told cause they have stubby legs. my basset crys and howls when he even in a 6 inch deep baby pool for a summer bath. awesome awesome awesoome! .. but i do wanna add that they have odd amount of not-white on the tips of their tails. O.o -Lydia

  • eating before swimming is a sure way to get cramps and eating while swimming is difficult to do

  • LOL I think my Bassets' would sink! I hope to have a pool and teach them to do this! I am going to take Buddy and Lila Basset up state this weekend and see what they do! My Beagle Asher already loves water so he'll lead off!

  • Oh those darling...precious...adorable bricks of furry love. What dolls!!!

  • OMG! How cute! (I though they couldnt swim!!)

    :)

  • Cool, but beware, there are basset hounds that can't float- mine nearly drowned- many have solid "long bones" , and don't have enough fat to float. My GG was too skinny to swim.

  • someone took my basset today

  • i loved it they were sooooo good

  • they are actually great swimmers

  • the basset hound is one of the worst swimmers because of there dense bones it makes it sink in water.

    -jonesboys221

  • my basset HATES water!!! the only thing he would do with water is drink it! LOL

  • FLOATING SAUSAGE!!!

  • @starfoxstarwolf5423

    HAHAHAHAHA.

  • I love how they appear to be STEERING themselves using their TAILS!

  • i love basset hound

  • Anything for chips!

  • Whoo! Breaking the stereotype of Basset's and water one doggie paddle at a time.

  • i got my english cocker spaniel from this breeder. he has a slideshow of his 1st birthday, just type in this:

    Mason's First(or 1st) birthday

it should be at the top, by Pegasus928

  • This is a miracle. My basset won't even step on a puddle that is a centimeter deep. LOL Your bassets are beautiful creatures.

  • Such cute names and I love how you call them your girls lol.

  • I thought bassets were bad swimers :P, so I never tried taking mine into the water... so I will defenatelly try this summer...but I think I'll be right next to her the whole time, dont want anything to happend to my baby :P

  • Very cute long eared submarines.

  • Never could get mine to swim. But that was in a pit.

  • brilliant vid! we have a 7 month old basset, he will only go ankle deep. may have something to do with it being minus 5 degrees outside. can't wait until summer :)

  • They seem surprisingly nimble in the water and once, in they seemed to enjoy it.

  • So wonderful to have a basset...

  • took my basset on a boat in the bay, we docked about 50 ft from an island, he jumped off the boat in about 4 ft of water n swam to the island n back n forth to the boat, it was so cool to see a basset swim, very cool, he loves the water.

  • cute dogs and beautiful swiming pool!!

  • Viv didn't cannonball in, he guy pulled her in. Not that I have a problem with that. Most dogs love swimming, just look at Tallulah there. It's just hard to get them in the water, when they look down at that pool, it probably looks to them like they're gonna fall or something. Great video, very cute hounds.

  • OH LOVE IT, my bf says bassets can't swim!!! My 7 mo old puppy loves coming on the raft with me in the pool! Thx they are so cute!

  • cool! i always thought they would sink like a rock as heavy boned as they are. I have a basset too (Roscoe)

  • so sweet we have bassethounds too

    they are really cute

  • I like them both especially Tallulah. : ) She looked like she was having fun swimming in there and she's like "I'm going in again!" Great job Tallulah and Vivian! (I love that name Tallulah lol)

  • Great video. I like how the first hound took to it easier the second time. The second hound is like, "screw that" then cannonballed in. haha My Basset would have never gone anywhere near a pool. He would run away from waves at the beach. He mainly just chased the seagulls.

  • Cute!!! Cute Cute Cute!! :)

  • Cool video... Always worried about how my Basset guy would do in the water with his short legs... Now I know!

  • Beautiful doggies!

  • i have a pool that is out of the water that is about 3 1/2 feet tall and i lift my basset (oliver) and he loves swimming in my pool with me. He does laps around the pool like Tallulah

  • My basset hound swam once because we had his toy in the pool and all he really did was walk along the bottom and then jump out

  • LOL!!! t hey are too cute , My basset Nibbles will swim if only there is a KFC across the pond!!

  • When i teached my dog to swim, she just hearted me and, and she swimed to my sholder!

  • That's so cute

  • my basset hound Jaja wouldn't swim for her life. even if she did shed spazz and sink!

:( but that is so cute

  • I figured a basset would sink like a rock. They actually swim pretty well.

  • Where are their life jackets. Safety is so important!

  • Not in this case: They are being watched! Besides, it's a small pool. It's good for them cause it allows them exercise which is important for a Basset, well, for any dog, any pet.

  • That is awesome! Mine wouldn't even think about getting his feet wet.

  • Vivers is too funny getting in!

    oh lordy
