Like vrex said it is a design issue with all hondas. For my prelude I found that I had to release the clutch slower when shifting into 2nd gear. I found a technical report from honda online and it stated when shifting into 2nd you have to take twice the amount of time when shifting into 3rd or 4th etc. This includes even high rpms.
hey man, u know those bubble mirrors on ur side mirrors? do they actually cover ur blind spot? cus i just got the car, and u cant see anything over shoulder, every lane change is freaking heart stroke time, so if u can tell me where u bought those, and if u ever have to look back anymore, i would really appreciate that, thanks man, nice shifting btw, im working one it
If it's till grinds its because of timonerie. You have to go to the service to change your timonery arm for 1st and 2nd gear. :) It's the most obvious, not 100% sure.
if it still grinds man if i were u go see a auto shop for different thrust bearing and washer at different thickness, and check ur hydraulic fluid if u have a hydraulic clutch if not it mechanical, but those washers will let the clutch be engaged and disengage at different levels. more question just hit me up
lol hes shifting too fast? which means hes riding the clutch?? wtf is wrong with ppl on comments.. its like they come on here talking shit and they dont even have their drivers license.
@heatrdabest yes your supposed to shift with engine rpm really. this is why sportier cars have lighter flywheels (to rev faster and drop revs faster). so yes if the rpms arent in the correct spot (too high up from shifting like ur a driver in the fast and the furious) you would be riding the fuck out of the clutch. i had an 05 ap2 and trust me, u most def wanna shift with the rpms for this car. my s2 is in my vids
yo my 2nd gear grinds a bit also but i have an ap2. i thought that was due to the CVD, i believe that only comes on the ap2. so i have no idea what your problem is except maybe tranny fluid.
na bro thats not it, i know how to drive no offense and sometimes even while cruising im holding the clutch all the way shifting slow it still grinds.
yo try topping up the tranny fluid, a guy like you shifting that fast is going to create some were and tear.. and that results in loss of fluid, trust me i changed it on my beemer and it ran like a flippin champ after that!
@JnguyenAP1 yo what year is your s2000? I used to have a '04 and it did the same once in a while...but for third gear....I'd just be cruising and even on very slow shifts it would do it...took it in for servicing a couple of time because of it but the dealership never found anything wrong and kept telling me it was my shifting...but it wasn't!!!
@JnguyenAP1 it could be ur synchros, i have that prob in 3rd. idk if u know what a synchro does or not but it is most likely that, does it grind in like mid rpm? like 3k and higher?
@JnguyenAP1 go on s2ki forums, common problem with the AP1's, 1st to second crunch.. its because it has 3 synchros instaed of 2 like every other gear. have u changed your gearbox oil recently? and make sure your clutch master hasnt gone, or slave cylinder. also you might need break fluid, or to bleed your break fluid as it may be burnt goodluck
@JnguyenAP1 oh yo bro i know what you mean man, when you try to shift, it feels like the gears clogged up or something, cant explain it, but its almost like trying to shift into butter lol, so then you try to do it slower and find out whats really making it feel weird and it grinds right? yeah i have that problem with my civic
Probably a bad synchro or improperly adjusted clutch pedal, so even with the pedal down all the way the clutch isn't quite disengaged yet. My Miata's clutch pedal isn't properly adjusted so it'll grind going into 2nd gear sometimes.
if you really do revmatch all day everyday, you wouldn't be 'too lazy' to do it then and there in a video. It's more effort to convince myself to NOT revmatch then to actually do it. Doing it on downshifts is a normality to get it smooth and save the synchros.
lol i dont have shit to prove to u man, i know exactly how i drive and everyone who knows me always hears me rev match, juss cause i dont do it once dsnt mean shit

If it is happening mostly under high rpm condition, it is possible that it is because the clutch is heavy, like what happens with act clutches

my srt4 grinds 2nd when it doesnt go and i try to get it to go but i got a bent shift fork and a bad synchro lol

My z had a similar problem. It would always grind into 3rd, even with the clutch fully depressed and shifting slow.
I swapped out the tranny fluid and put some Amsoil sychromesh in there. No more grinds. Maybe that will help you?

GTRantunez 7 months ago
@GTRantunez just put it in 3rd right before you put it in reverse. like up, back down to reverse. won't grind.
VTeckin11 1 week ago
@JnguyenAP1
Probably a bad synchro or improperly adjusted clutch pedal, so even with the pedal down all the way the clutch isn't quite disengaged yet. My Miata's clutch pedal isn't properly adjusted so it'll grind going into 2nd gear sometimes.
