  • Sounds like you were asking for a pair of Lunhags boots, check em out.

  • Nice vid! Just one question though, do you go solo?

  • @enragedcontractor Yes, he does. Usually he likes to take his dog along. But he's been going solo since we were kids. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • That's right. I start huffin to when the air gets thin. It's crazy when you bring a dog, they just motor on through all happy.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • Where's your Cold Steel Ghurka Kukri? Haven't seen it much in TNP.

  • great video! Me and my friend alex look up to you are our hero and we hope to one day be as succesful as you :)

  • I wish we had winter weather like that in Tennessee, but we are lucky to ever get a lite dusting.

  • love yur dog! i want a black lab! :D

  • Hey nutn, NEVER worry about armchair critics cuz they suck - they just do. Keep up the good work and don't worry about the rest. BTW, another excellant vid.

  • great vid nutn and yeah screw whoever says your out of shape i would love to see them do what you do.. me personally i love the outdoors and and im a little outta shape but i dont give a crap.... keep making videos i love

  • where are you what mountains ?

  • was this the place you went in the high skies vids nutn?

  • What is the dog carrying??

  • AWESOME VIDEO!

  • love the dog

    black lab?

  • @thomasm733 Yes, black lab. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Veri! How is the mountain dog? Hope she and the restof TNP is doing well!

  • @sstrawsburg Thanks for asking! She seems to be doing really well but we are guarded about her long term prognosis. She could go up in the mountains right now but Nutn is being ultra cautious about her healing time.. Its hard to be patient! -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy i have a chesapeake bay labrador retriever who loves the wilderness just like ally!

  • whoever says hes out of shape is confused not everyone is 20 years old and in peak physical condition not to mention... look at where he is.

  • Telling people not to go make these emergency survival shelters is not good.. for one reason practicing making these shelters when you are calm and NOT in a survival situation will give confidence when you ARE in a survival situation

  • Damn dude, your dog is trained so well. Respect for that man :)

  • I wish i could go backpacking with you

  • Holy Cow dude, I love when you pan the cam and you dont hear anything, but the snowfall!!!!!!! Great vids Bro

  • Have you ever tried timberland weatherproof boots? they weigh less than a sneaker are rubber coated and ultra warm, it completely keeps snow and rain out and is actually really comfortable, plus it gives excellent footing, there are many times I would have tripped with other shoes and didn't trip with these.

  • Hey nutnfancy

Do you play call of duty?

  • lol 19:26 Allie with devil eyes :P

  • dont go green

  • heres hoping for more of these style vids- definitely my favorite of anything I've seen on the channel. props from Canada-the original frozen north

  • nutnfancy, what firearm (if any) were you carrying in this video. bear or wildcat defense?

  • AWESOME VIDEO ..Great job with Alleys system..I watch your videos to learn..Thats why I'm here,Whether its a gun knife ..As a matte or of fact ..I didnt even know about these vids and I've been watching you for years now..Sorry I have to admit I have argued with people on your posts. But thats because I am Passionate about my beliefs(gun control). And yes I'm sitting on the couch watching you right now drinking a diet dew.LOL.Thanks for all the videos.

  • The kelty redwing that you have, is it the 3100 or the 2650 version?

  • Dude your pretty fit.

  • singnal

  • colorado?

  • Very informative. Looks like you know your stuff and are truly practicing what it takes to label yourself a true survivalist. Beautiful views too looks like a great place to explore in all seasons. I suggest a Gerber pruning saw for a lightweight inexpensive pack saw. It's not the most indestructible equipment by any means but it does the job on large limbs and small trees and retains a decent edge. Just my two cents keep the videos coming.

  • Nutn' is hardly out of shape!! He's probably got more miles under his belt going to dig a cat-hole in the woods than most of the "arm chair elietist" (as he put it, ha ha!) do hiking their entire life. People do not realize air is thinner at altitude...and the higher you go the worse it gets! Even very "in shape" and athletic induviduals I know get winded once they get into even slightly higher altitudes than they are acclimated to. Keep truckin' Nutnfancy!

  • Hey where i can buy these gator boots you talking about? I am from Germany so i have to check but a brand and a name would help me very much. Thanks Chris

  • @Messerschmitt1981 you can wear gators with any boot, they are like an oversock. purpose made snow boots will generally have one built in, but generally a decent gore tex set + quality fitted boots will do the job. except for the sweaty ankles they always seem to give me :)

  • I am very suspicious that he only says he walks in 4 miles. I keep thinking he goes about 1/4 mile and acts tired. He also probably carries a small satellite dish for watching TV. He really didn't mean to slam us video game players it was an accident. Try to forgive him his trespasses against us couch potatoes.

  • I dont understand why people thrive in bashing, trolling, and submit negativity. You're putting so much into your projects and i think hiking, filming, and taking isnt easy.

Personally, hiking/backpacking is something you cannot prepare for (maybe gym work) ; the body/muscle memory isnt calibrated to take such extreme conditions. Especially when one hikes at higher elevation and encounters vertigo sickness (and there is nothing to prevent that--just experience). PROPS to Nutnfancy!!!!

  • Love your vids pal, really useful stuff. Not many snowy areas in england but still very helpful when i go camping.

  • @nutnfancy, do you carry a tomahawk when camping ?

  • I wish I could come camping with you. Learn what you know. I just wing it.

  • Why don't you carry a tomahawk?

  • Was stationed at Ft. Carson...hiking through those woods is no stroll in the park for sure....Another great video!!!

  • Why can't I find part 2 of this freakin nightmare?

  • Awesome dog you got man.I got one to .Black labs are the best.

  • I have yet to be disappointed with one of Nutnfancy's vids. It's my absolute favorite subscription. I get informed reviews, field testing on eq, the whole shabang. Kudos, Nutn. From the mountains of WV, to now living in the Canadian Rockies...keep up the excellent vids.

    Raven

  • hey nutn, was wondering what type of thermometer is that on your backpack?

been looking for a small one, that i can rely on, but so far havn't had any luck. - thanks AJ

  • doggie in a hood so cute

  • Dog = Mans best friend. :)

  • You need a TV show!! Sooo much better than Bear Grylls. Seriously u should see about getting on TV because You could.

  • nutnfancy i like you're videos, but you always tell people that they will not be capable of packing an axe into the woods because of the weight. when you compared the rtak2 to an axe you never mentioned the fact that a GB small forest axe only weighs an ounce more, and it would cut a tree down at an increased rate. plus when you do go out on you're adventures you seem to pack a multitude of knives. i think you could take the weight of an axe

  • hey nutn i go out but i go out in the everglades so its not cold but it is wet but i had a waterproof camera but it got stolen

  • Dear which type of boots you are wearing in this trip.....kindly tell me their company name......great job...........

  • sweet dude i love the out doors i love your vids

  • great video what part of the rockies in beautfull colo i was born and raised in denver and live in hiway park and frazier krimmlin craig colbran to name a few now i live in missouri i do some hiking and camping but with blood clots in both lungs and my whole left leg it hard to do but i still try to do iy keep up the Great videos 5******

  • If you are ever in Southern Arizona ill be a camera man lol. I'm not afraid of sub zero temps, or 110+. If I'm in the outdoors I'm a happy man. Awesome videos by the way. I always check to see if you have a review on something before I buy it. Keep it up!

  • How do you train Allie not to run away? my dog goes crazy and I have to have a shock collar on him in case he goes too far.

  • That dog is so cute with her slicker and her packs. :)

  • Id make a round house shelter if i had to live there for longer than a week... makes a big difference.

  • If somehow there was an atom bomb that was dropped on the central united states and all hell broke loose I would want to be in the company of great survivalist folk such as yourself!

  • Allie is the coolest dog on the internet,

  • Today would have been the PERFECT day for me to get out there-2' of snow, still snowing-but, alas, I work from home, so I couldnt use the commute as an excuse. So, sadly, I am stuck indoors till after 5...

  • video game PADDLES- NUTN, you just dated yourself... I never did learn how to make water or fire from my Atari...

  • dude... no one wants to go with u... i LOVE to go with u. be sick to be out there just survivin, learnin from the best haha.

  • I would do anything to do things like this more often

  • @woolrocks, Its alright, He's not completely destroying trees. Besides, as an environmentalist I always say "cut one tree, plant two more." Of course I mean that if it is necessary to cut down a tree, do your part by planting two more.

  • Quite instructive. Good job!

    Your dog is so cute...

  • wait u talked about a survival class in this? wat was it? im a big fan of u. ur really good and ur vids r long. thats another plus.

  • I never would have thought these types of videos would be entertaining, but they are. Your the best dude.

  • I'm just like you man, i love the snow adventures! they are the best

  • This is a very smart guy.

  • What kind of gloves does nutnfancy use for winter shooting? Im looking for some winter shooting gloves for Michigan winters.

  • I'm envious. I haven't gotten to go out this season due to a torn disk in my back. Any suggestions for back packing with an iffy back? I don't want to lose going out and away from "technology".

  • That dog has a serious happy tail. Love it

  • Please don't cut the lower branches off of the trees! You are damaging them. Please just pick twigs up from the forest floor! Why is this necessary as you say to harm these trees?

  • @woolrocks Did you not listen to anything Nutn said? For video sake he cut the branches off a few trees. They will indeed grow back. He usually does not harm any trees in the making of his videos. Although, for the greater good of this video he did. And might i ask, have YOU ever actually been into the back country? When and if you do leave the comfort of your arm chair. We will talk.

  • there is one thing i want to know. does nutn take a toothbrush with him on his adventures?

  • @doublesidedcoin Oh yeah, on overnighters or longer. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy r u sure he does... no im just kidding. or am i...????

  • screw whoever said ur out of shape i wanna see them do it in stead of drinkn there soda and eating chips all day

  • @XxmotocomedyxX I would guess that most of those people have not been up in the mountains like this..everything gets lots harder at altitude. They don't get it til they do it. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy im far from being in great shape but im not to bad and I used to be "one of those guys" untill I went to colorado on a snowboarding trip and came across a snow park without lifts and Ill tell you what hiking up a snowy mountian at 13k feet was brutal, had no idea until I had to climb a 45 degree angle a hundred yardst in the snow.........thought I was gonna puke.....great vids btw thanks for posting them.

  • @johnj1200 Cool comment, thanks for watching.

  • @nutnfancy i was in canada mountain biking and my bike broke so it was a 23mile walk (more like a crawl) back to the pickup who ever said nutnfancy wasnt in shape needs to do this because im an experianced hiker but i thoight i was going to pass out when i was in the snow hiking it so hard anyway hanks for the great videos and advice and taking the time to post them

  • @6packbrad Wow! What happened to your bike?

  • @nutnfancy you call it north country, i call it home. nice to see some action up north. about to have snow in about a month or so. north, north-east Washington.

  • i would love to your camror man but i live i the Blue Mountains NSW Australia

  • I would be your camera man

but i live in the blue mountains nsw australia

i love your vids and btw black labs areawesome

  • why you put people down for their comments.

  • Whats the make and model of the camera you use for your recording? Your video's are the best keep it up please. Your opinions & how you comment about the arm chair know it all's .

    Thanks

  • where did you get that backpack for your dog? thats amazing!

  • @yammarider12 The best backpack Nutn has found for Allie has been from Ruff Wear. Its not the backpack in THIS video, but Nutn considers it an improvement. -- Veri

  • what saw were you using

  • @littlejayhawk96 sawvivor

  • looks like wasach mtns. here in utah . beautiful place . nice vid.

  • Breathing to hard? I've done what you are doing and I know the cold is not easy on your lungs especially when you are carrying gear.

  • your dogs eyes glow XD anyway your do is awesome

  • I think you should try out the SOG Creed because i've watched a ton of ur knife vids and it meet's your standards it's got a good length and a quarter inch thickness and it keep a really good edge, plus it has and it's weight is heavy enough to do it's job but not to slow you down

  • @MaDaPPleFILMS hes got a SOG creed review.

  • I think you should try out the SOG Creed because i've watched a ton of ur knife vids and it meet's your standards it's got a good length and a quarter inch thickness and it keep a really good edge.

  • your totally right people don't do anything and they tell people they suck in ther vids it makes me mad, yah I don't have any vids but made some, still trying to put them on youtube, hope nobody does it to me.

  • good stuff man, it's very refreshing to see people enthusiastic about the outdoors. I'm actually about to head out in the great Pennsylvania outdoors lol , for the weekend with just a few things. The video is def. inspiring. I'm going to see how I can do with a few snares and dead falls.

  • dude....i would totally be ur camera man!!!! that looks like so much fun

  • ur dog is cute smart and loyal

  • good deal

  • Nutn i would definately be your camera man. Would follow you anywhere dude!

  • does she where little booties

  • @survivalist678 sometimes

  • Dude your breathin hard, your outta shape!

  • I'm glad to see that i am not the only one who likes to go out in the not so great of conditions snow camping and extreme heat are good tests of what a man can handle....people just think you are crazy when you go out when it is not ''perfect''.I say it's real world and thats what you need! keep up the great work nutnfancy

  • I've watched this 20 times, still good! keep up the show!

  • Hey man another great vid from one of the two best survival guys on the tube ,dont let the armchair warriors drag you down man ,they are for most teenagers who dont get off the xbox/playstation all day ,i love every vid you make and find them very informative yet again ,cheers mate.HK.

  • dude no one wants to go with me june 2010 because I live near Mobile Alabama and go off into the delta. I know what you mean when you say your friends want to stay inside. They hate the humidity, the vampire like bugs, storms every fkn day and the 105 degree heat index. I don't know how you do it in the snow. It's hot almost all year round these parts. I'd freeze to death if I took my kit the places you go. Planning on getting a kelty super bag like the one you have. hold more gear.

  • Just a question at about 6 nutn says something about removable lining but what about socks just aquestion cos i wanna get into hiking

  • It was a hooah adventure with you my man. Keep up the hard work to show us all the skills that you possess !!!!! AWESOMEEEEEEE

  • Id be your camrea-man for free! I wish i would have a friend who would do this stuff with me.

  • like ur video. i am 56 yr old lady in nova scotia. stroke survivor love the woods. i snowshoe in winter always take survival gear love it. am slowerb t6han i was but still out there doing it. used to sleep in woods in winter when i was younger but not now. take care.karen.

  • @cougarbahia Great comment, Karen. Thanks for watchin, glad to hear you are still getting out there.

  • you have a great dog

  • nice.... Living in Minnesota and growing up in the bush we love it cold!! Taken winter survival training in the Army and we dont stay inside in the winter. I use that video game controller comment all the time. Live and train hard and be ready... Thanks for the vids.

  • @nordicbrewer Thanks for the great comment! -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • my kinda man :D brings his trusty friend on his hiking :D i bring my ferret :D i taught it to bring dry sticks :P

  • DUDE i would sooo go with you and be your camera man lol, but i live in California and dont get proper winters where i live, id have to drive a few hours north to do this stuff. really wish i could though.

  • im the same way, there are woods by my house and im always back there with my trusty ak47 bayonet and my friends make fun of me for it and i say the woods are better than a plastic playstation 3

  • @davidmarino96 i wish i were you dude i play xbox but i wish i had a forest to be there all the time.

  • 2:26-2:30 ish, words of wisdom

  • your dog is way too cool, good action

  • Stuck in a dorm doin homework. Wish I could be out there like you more often.

  • Definitely out of shape... jk I'm a scout and multiple-time mountain backpacker, but never in crappy conditions like that. Hike on nutnfancy, or should I say Survivorman 2!

  • no one wants to come out with you?

I DO! that would be sweet!

  • Cool runnings dude! Thanx for lots of in-depth info from your extensive knowledge base. I figured most of this stuff out by myself and it's good to see others who use the same techniques. Keep it up!

  • hey, what do you do about bears when you are out by yourself, or do you take extra precautions?

  • Love your videos, but why do you think the rest of us start every statement with "Dude"?

  • That's just the way he talks, dude. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • just like surviver man, surviving is easy filming it it hard

  • I try to plant trees every year to make up for the ones I damage while camping. Does that make up for it?

  • What do you mean nobody wants to come out and be your camera man, extended stay with Nutnfancy! I will be your wing man anytime =)

  • Been watching your videos for while now just wanted to say thanks! Your reviews and recommendations have been honest and insightful. The Nutnfancy Project has improved my knowledge on surviving and enjoying the great outdoors.

  • Allie = little yellow riding hood? Hah!

  • also carrying about 60-70 pounds of gear(not bragging) it was tough!

  • After watching these videos i went out in the woods where i live with about 2 feet of snow and i made my own lean-to. It looked exactly like yours(but i dont think as well built). i stayed in it all night and it was awsome. this vid helped me so much! thanks NUTN!!!!

  • i would come out with you but i doint live near you i love it out there

  • This is so cool your dog is the best she look like she is having so much fun.

Just found you and I am hooked with your stuff keep up the good work

  • I can t stop watching TNP videos. This is what youtube is all about. Thanks.

  • great video and dog how old is allie?

  • She's about 5 years old now. -- Veri

  • I would love to be your camera man. Has the position been filled? Big Nutnfancy FAN!

  • This is a great video. It's clear you are very knowledgeable about wilderness survival situations. This video is very informative, and was fun to watch. One question, though: How do you find the time to do this?! :)

  • If you don't watch tv or play video games and have a wife to help with the kids you have lots more time than you'd imagine. imo

  • Hey Man! Love your videos. I'll come out there and be your camera man! I love those conditions...guess I'm as nuts as you...LOL!

  • Hey Nutn'...why do you care what the tools out there comment about?? I'm sure the vast majority of us just watch and enjoy your stuff. Screw em.

  • That's an awesome jacket you're wearing, any info on who makes it? (The thin one which can cover most of your face)

  • social - Nutn says that it is a Moonstone GorTex shell..bought on sale in 1996 from Mtn Gear in Spokane. It was around $125. For something similar, he stays try Campmor (. ) com. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • thx :D

  • Might you make more videos concerning dog care on long hikes, such as overnight care(ie:is she tied at night)..does she carry her own food and water?how did you train her to stay close without a lead?what about long term paw care in wet or snow?

  • Not sure if Nutn has any in depth ones yet about his dog. However in his High sky's series he talks a little about it. For instance his dog has a backpack and among other things carries her own food and water.

If you find more let me know as well. Thanks

  • Great upload, great info

  • man, I dig this.. I might have to give something like this a try. Ive been wanting to try and "survive off the land" if you will for like a week and take nothing but the basic tools and maybe a fishing pole and survive for a good amount of time and build shelter and whatnot

  • what is the knife you use

  • Thanks again for the great videos, keep ignoring all the trolls, haters, armchair experts and the keyboard warriors!

    :)

  • dude...i so would like to maybe, idk,...audition for cameraman...id so be more than excited to be out there doin this with someone i could learn so much from!!

  • "OOOOOOH yeah baby"

  • im like u i love the cold and the out doors in genral even know im 12

  • what does bivwak stand for?

  • I live in the lower eastern half of michigan and I so want to find a spot where I can hike in and camp and that is sort of off the beaten path, I do have a prob though im 28 and have a rod in the right leg from breaking it twice and my knees are shot but I will trudge on and deal with it even though i have chronic pain. but the expirence would be worth the pain. Im looking for like a 2mi hike in to camp and 2mi hike out on the other side. I think it would be kool.

  • i have been hiking and camping by myself in stuff like that and all i have to say is that your in great shape cuz it can get very tiring when you have to care the backpack and everything and im 15. and i really like your vids

  • iv never been in any snow before man i wish i could tho looks sweet hiking up there

  • where are u living that u have never seen any snow??

  • hi, nice vid,, nature is beautifull!! good info. !! thnx for posting this vid.

  • ahahahahah, that dog getup is the best thing ive seen in a while. That dog is ready to survive.

  • 5:01 .... I love that sound.

  • By the way Nutn, what do you do for a living? Id love the have a job that lets me do this kinda stuff. I'm a patrolman with limited funds and vacation time. But I do love the reviews and survival advise/

  • your right, im stuck at home all the time and i wish i could be out there doing what there doing, i will be tho soon enough you can believe that...

  • awesome video nutnfancy, i'm living in the high rockies right now (about 10,000 ft ) and i'm putting myself in a mock survival situation tomorrow and the day after. going to rely heavily on your advice! also i love your reviews, thanks again dude

  • WOW that is BEAUTIFUL.... OH MAN

  • thanks for the effort.....we always learn something here.

  • Thanks for stopping by. Good to have you around.

  • hey you have any videos on making combat shelters?
