The best song they ever did by a long long mile. I'm 55 now, but to me this one stood out and still stands out as a classic song of the eighties. But I'll go along with ludev1975, I just wish I could speak Polish....xx
a song that never got its true reward a iconic song of the 80s still makes me think of those years now 47 and dont feel any different awesome time glad to have been around then . james
i cant get over how much he smiles and yet seems to be ashamed of it. trying to hide it, or the moking look he gives at 2:24 like 'i know im smiling'... how genuinely happy he looks. is it because he cant believe how good he sounds? is it because of the excitement of a rise to fame? it makes me smile every time
The new BLANCMANGE album 'Blanc Burn' is due out on the 7th March 2011 and will be supported by a UK tour. Check out blancmange.co.uk for more details and to download a FREE MP3.
How did we used to dance to these classics. I was just 16 and finding out that chocolate, Stones bitter and ye olde english cider dont mix in 1982. Great memories great times.
Spot on. Scott Walker is a legend make no mistake. This song is without doubt one of the best of the 80s. Lyrically, fabulous. If this had some twangy guitars (which I like) and a sad lead singer story, it would be the stuff of legend. Superb. No doubt about it.
He looks a bit girly but he has a good strong voice. S'pose this was the near end of the era when people of real talent had no artificial help, they got to where they wanted with hard work and talent.
Waves, then goodbye I live in a wafer thin dream I, I can cry You know that time, time's not kind But I remember the way we were Slow, slow sad love I wonder do you miss my love I know you can't It's just a wave passing over me What are these waves? They're coming over me It must be my destiny Waves, coming by Goodbye, goodbye
It's such a brilliant song! It's sounds like the original album ('Happy Families') version which is , in my opinion, better than than the single version with strings. I love it!
The best song ever... brings back so many memories...love it love it.

The extra effects on vocals make this.
Prefer this in some ways to the album version although the vocals are MUCH stronger on the studio one.
Grimnir 2 years ago
Grimnir, this version sounds almost exactly like the (original British) album version - without strings...
You are probably thinking of the single.
Maybe in other countries the single version was included on the 'Happy Families' LP.
I also like this version better. Much better!
