  • i still like the first gen better

  • you're a fucking idiot if you hold your mac like that while the hdd is spinning. whats the point to this....

  • I have a 13" macbook Pro and the screen doesn't fall. But my dad has a 15" (the same size used in the video) and it did fall. I don't get that. Then again why would it even matter in the first place?

  • who wud use the macbook with its body perpendicular to the ground? spider-man?

  • Classic. That's exactly the type of stuff you hear from the PC weenies.

  • Can someone help me? When I open up my macbook pro (new model) there's the tiniest bit of flop when I change where the screen is going to go. like it will vibrate for a second. Is that normal?

  • hahahah, nice funny joke, kohe e humbur

  • Oh, the hinges can't support the screen weight and he calls it a feature: "It closes itself" roflmfao

  • Mine doesn't fall... but mine's the 2010 one.

  • I love my early 2008 15.4" MBP! I got in Japan in May 2008 and it works just as good now as it did when I used it for the first time!

  • My MacBook Pro's screen does not fall down like that when I do this.

  • Who the hell holds their laptop like that with their screen open anyway?

  • Comment removed

  • hi mate

  • Take it back ASAP! The new models are coming out in a few week!

  • thanks for posting! I just bought the new MBP and thought there was something wrong with my hinges..seems it is supposed to fall like that.

  • The new ones are crap, a rushed design. I have both of these and much prefer the 2.4..

  • i have that old generation late 2008 macbook pro and my lid is not as loose as he showed.. just don't abuse your hardware and everything will be ok

  • i though on the first ibook was the first laptop without the latch and then they made it have it

  • what!! i just tried picking my new mbp and the screen didnt just flop down???

  • @THEirishLAD95 same

  • LAMER!

  • I have the newest latest at this moment right now.. and it does not closes itself by gravity

  • Great demo, thanks for showing us. It helps me understand why the new model display always falls down when I'm reclining and using the laptop. Too bad Apple doesn't think this is a problem. I'm looking into the possibility of changing out the hinges...

  • @aqfire they already fixed this problem back in 09 if not this year. i just bought one back in june and it doesn't have the hinge problem like the late 08 models.

  • I have had this issue occur on a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009 model and I agree with the other users that something needs to be done. The hinges are too weak resulting in the screen flopping down whenever the base of the laptop is not flat to the ground. Seeing that to date nothing has been done to fix the problem we are looking into developing a hinge clip which will keep the screen in the same position regardless of the position of the base. If you are interested please visit the squarcles site

  • My MBP 13" is fucked up like this too :/

  • Whoa. You guys are MEAN! Stop picking on the guy

  • So, this shows that he uses his computer upside down.

  • fat as mother fuken hary ass cunt sniffen bitch........

  • so?

  • good video imo

  • God that thing looks bad. Are apple trying to bring back the 90s with those stupid looking black keys in a silver notebook?

  • @Rowena489

    stfu ass hole

  • crappy macs - buy sony vaios- best business notebooks in the world

  • @christianplive with that imba battery...

  • This doesn't happen on mine. 13'' bought last month.

  • I am getting the one on the left next week. (17 inch). It was originally $2700, but I'm getting it for $1500. It has a 2.5 GHz Core 2 Duo processor with 4 GB of DDR2 Ram.

How good is that machine (on the left in your video) compared to the new ones? I've only ever used the unibodys because that's what they have at the Apple Store.

  • i have a 13" macbook pro and the screen doesn't fall like urs does

  • it is because the 13 inch has a smaller screen but the same spring and hinge

I have the 15 inch and my friend has the 13 so thats how i know

  • @mannyy1294 same here

  • i guess they fixed that problem in the late 2009 model. i bought one not to long ago and the screen refuses to budge when held perpendicular to the ground

  • Nice observation I think it's due to the glass on the new MacBook Pro's Display Not really weak design though

  • very astute observation

  • I think its a bit risky putting 2 laptops on top of each other, maybe they could wipe each others hard disks

  • @AcerAreCool, You must be a mac owner. That would explain your comment.

  • its an apple orgy!

sorry, I had to say something ignorant lol

  • @greenvines7 And they're going to make a MacBook Baby!

  • apple rules!!

  • This video is fake. There's no gravity in mac world

  • lol

  • @smcoats I am having the same problem, and appreciate this video. Lots of people are having the same problem and my hinge finally CRACK!!!! BROKE!

smoats, Check your facts, smcoats, before you post.

  • nipperoid is right, Macs are overpriced, but I'm getting one anyway! PC's are absolutely horrible and I'm sick and tired of mine. New PCs come out everyday and still, not ONE PC can live up to what Macs offer. But yes, the price is ridiculous. It probably takes way less than 1,400 dollars to make the computer.

  • How can you compare a "gaming machine" with a computer?? Not even a Mac, just a computer in general. Game systems are completely different than computers and do completely different things. You also spelled machine wrong.

  • how are they different? they just perform better, faster and can do more things, all that is different is that the hardware is the latest and best

  • they are also built a lot better. the aluminum material dispenses heat better thus allowing for cooler temperatures. the display is a lot more vivid. and glass track pad.

  • well i like the feature that it closes when u put it in that possition because what if it would fall, it would have a chance to close and dont damage the screen

  • hey, my MBP hinge is tight like a virgin ass man. i cant lift the screen on its own without the entire notebook following it. it actually creaks a little when i adjust the screen because its so tight. gravity or not, it doesn't fall down on its own at all.

i read up a bit, and it seems like i kinda have a rare condition for my MBP. lol

  • Comment removed

  • So in order to fix that we have to take out the gravity? Right? Hahaha. And how do we take out the gravity can we use nuclear bomb??! Hahaha

  • haha by gravity.

  • cam £90

  • macs are overpriced

  • I am dissapointed off how far the new opens.. An normal laptop, can be opened so it makes an 180 angle.. But actually, when thinking about it, im never usin more angle than i have on my new macbook pro 15, so who cares? Mac rules, awesome video man!

  • THANKS! :D All of those facts were completely useless! :)

  • @iMacAnytime ROFL gir moment XD

  • @iMacAnytime

then why the fuck did you watch it?

  • Man, I hate the fact that the new MBP hinges fall by themselves. It's really annoying.

  • mine dose'nt have that problem with the screen,( the falling down part) maybe you should check with an apple retail

store, don't they have a warranty for that?

  • Selling my sealed Macbook Pro unibody (removable battery version). Specs are 2.66GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, 8600 256MB graphics, 15" glossy screen. This is the same one Apple sells currently but with a removable battery and an ExpressCard slot in place of the SD card reader (which is a downgrade since you can get an ExpressCard SD card reader). This is NOT refurbished and carries a full Apple factory warranty, Got it as a gift i never used it because i got a dell xps m1730.

  • can i have it?

  • how much?

  • i dun care MBP is the best

  • this was quite pointless, so the new MBP's lid goes back further and the screen fall's down when you hold it vertically, would you use any laptop in that position?? nope.

  • Yes - when it's on your knees in bed for relaxed computing.

  • You have your keyboard vertically down and the screen pretty much 90 degrees to it!? OK then

  • drivingaway2 , you are moron. Get lost!

  • haha wow random!!

  • yes he is really stupid

  • @drivingaway2 Can i suck your dick?

  • Who cares if it falls down turn upside down? Who the hell is going to use it that way anyhow. Sheesh.

  • ok well... who uses a laptop upside down so the screen will fall down like that?

  • poor. f-

  • lol my macbook pro screen doesn't fall down by gravity you should probably have yours checked out.

  • same

  • ive got the same pro as the 1 on the left (2008 model) and i dont have any problems with the screen bouncing but it does get very hot though, does the new one get hot? (around the magsafe port area)

  • no it doesn't get really hot, just warm

  • :29

i hope that never happens to my macbook!

  • i love my macbook aluminum (late 2008). loven' it! and who cares? when do u use a laptop vertical anyways? get real. who cares if the screen bounces on your old shit. i hate the bouncy screens, when someone bumps the table or your legs you have a screen to wait to stop bouncing around. u r so stupid

  • I FREAKIN LOVE MY MACBOOK PRO

  • .....okay, so don't buy this laptop if you are going to use it upside down? 1:20, time i'll never see again...

  • The funny thing is, i'm on the new macbook pro right now, and when i hold it upside down, the lid doesn't close.

    O_o

it stays perfectly in place, even if i push it.

  • this is for the 2008 model. I'm picking mine up next week :)

  • mine goes down...

  • same!

  • Very interesting point of comparison... The display hinge... Anyhow, knowing this, I'm happy I have the older model. I have had situations where I was laying down and wanted to view things while holding the laptop upside down, or to show someone something from an awkward position which happens more often than not for me. I gladly accept the 'flop' too keep my screen at a relative angle. And the button latch to close it has its pros and cons. I don't mind pushing it, if it weren't so small. !

  • dude why are you doing a video with both o them just enjoy them and stop waisting time it only has 1000 recharges

  • Worrying about the 1000 charges won't make them go by slower... Plus the battery is replaceable, If your laptop actually outlives your battery, and you don't loose/break it.

  • how much is the battery

  • aw crap.. now i don't want a new macbook pro because i can't use my laptop against a wall because the screen will close.. CRAP!

but seriously, even if this was the only problem with the new pro, it shows how everything is basically perfect and the slight "problems" are unnoticable and unimportant. (: New MBP's all the way!

  • wow are you fucking stupid, the only reason it closed because he was holding the samn thing upside down, it doesnt close if you have it streight, it doesnt close at all when sitting normally, just when you hold it up lol i laughed at how dumb you are.

  • Wow you are the dumb one, PrinceRemix said they dont want it because when they put it against a /wall/ it will close. They didn't say they were holding it normal, they said against a wall.

  • ok girls, ,dont argue, , the main problem is that MBP is too expensive , , other little problems like in this vid dont really matter ,, , infact i like it when the lid closes that way, , my laptop cant do that oO, if it really was the main problem for you you can still adjust it

  • I do most of my computing on a wall perpendicular to the ground so I am not buying this. I cant believe Apple, they never think of how we set up our computers.

PS: Tazerfire is really dumb, LOL.

I like the display, jokes aside. Really easy to open and reposition.

  • Everytime I sit on my bed with the MacBook Pro Unibody, my screen falls backwards. It annoys me greatly. I like the old MacBook Pro alot better: matte screen, better speakers, better keyboard, and just because I think it is better. What I can say positive about the Unibody is that it does take longer to get VERY HOT. The Penryn(older version) gets hot faster. I am going to buy a Penryn macbook pro next week and am gonna trade this one out.

  • i like the latch feature

  • i sorta like the old design better but they're both good.

  • Agree

  • maybe there un tight(the screws)

  • Omg noo, I wanted a macbook pro but now when I know it closes when facing down I'm not sure anymore! lol :P

  • why do you have got two macbook pros? omg...

  • Ahm... an old one and a new one?

  • ahahahahahahah fucking hinges ahahahahahahahahaha wtf

  • Who is actually going to use their laptop facing down anyway???

  • i know eh, people are like freaking our because it doesnt hold, maybe its a safety feature..

  • bats???

  • gravity is a tricky thing

  • i really want a macbook but they're so expensive =P

  • i got mac book pro

  • i want to buy 1 for college, do u like urs? is it worth it?

  • Lol! Ok....

  • So is this a bad thing?

  • What is the purpose of that last comment? Who cares whether the screen closes when the computer is perpendicular? When are you ever going to use a LAPTOP like that? Irrelevant.

  • ive got the new MBP 15 inch... its sick!

  • I think it falls down as the glass is heavier

  • I want a pro or just a macbook so badly...but there to damn expensive

  • there doing each other ;D

  • lol omg you're right XD

  • my macbook pro 2007 model has awesome hinges. dont know what hes talkin bout>>.??

  • by gravity? zomg!

  • By gravity....u dont say ...hahaha

  • haha...that was funny...

  • I dont like that it falls its no fun ... is it safer for whn you drop it?

  • i have no wobble on my previous generation macbook pro

  • By gravity...no shit sherlock!

  • Not that my new laptop is bad, it's justr that my dad isnt an Apple fan. He is the only things I have apple in my house is iTunes, Quicktime, and my iPod. and I bought the iPod! My dad refused apple productis, but i cant see how windows is any better.

  • I have the old one and mine does fall down buy its self.. it's quite annoying if I have the laptop nearly vertical on my knees if yeh get me

  • Me too man! :) When I hold it vertical while typing, it just closes on me, I mean: why dont they think about such things before building them...

  • I don't think thats what he meant.

  • Your username rocks.

    I had to say it.

  • the mackbook unibody is sweet but you cant change the battery yourself...

  • yes u can

  • not without voiding the warranty

  • if it is the 17 inch you cant do it your self the 13 and 15 inch macbook and mbpro u can change your self

  • that is incorrect. You can change the battery on the all but the 17 inch Macbook Pro, which has a built-in battery.

  • i thought you couldnt, i guess i was wrong

  • yeah. and one thing to not is that if you leave the 17 inch Macbook Pro in a very cold environment it will destroy the battery. I cannot remember exactly why, but it has something to do with the way the battery is made.

  • the old macbook pro was the first macbook

  • Also, what is the background noise? Is there like some child trying to escape from your basement?

  • :O. I hope you do know it is a sin to put any other notebook on top of the new MacBook Pro. You should be ashamed.

  • I know!!! What if it got scratched! lol

  • my macbook pro effed up and now im looking to get a new one but im kinda broke...

  • Got the macbook pro for a week now and I LOVE IT TO DEATH. ;) who gives a shit if it has weak hinges.

  • well at long as it dont fall apart like the alienware m15x hinge...

  • I don't think it has to do with the hinges, but with the display itself, which is much heavier due to the fact that it is edge-to-edge glass.

Unless you are using the MBP at an unusual angle, it is never really an issue.

  • wow what a stupids insignificant comparations

  • I have the early 2008 model and I love it. Trying to upgrade my hard drive myself today.

  • I have the new MacBook pro and this really isn't an issue, if you have it propped up on your lap you just put the screen right back and it stays there.

  • I used to prefer the early 2008 model because it had Firewire 400, but then I realised that the 800 and 400 run off the same bus, so the new one hasn't lost any speed at all.

    New one for the win!

  • So the hinge is weak on purpose or defected? Why it makes a weird sound when you open the display? Is that normal? I never heard of it when I open my laptop.

  • well, its not weaker... its just manufactured differently. the old mbook pro had a very tough hinge, which didn't give you the flexibility to open it at wider angles. the new mbook pro is weaker, but definitely NOT weak. it's been purposely designed that way to give you better control of the screen. also, take into consideration of how thin the new screen module is to the old one. the old one is at least double the thickness, which allows it to have a larger hinge.

  • Thank you for your reply. One thing that bothers me is how the trackpad makes a cheap sound "clank-clank" when you push it, was it meant that way or is it a defect?

  • yea, that's mean't to be that way too. it acts as a way to ensure you that you have made a selection. if you become annoyed by the clank noise, just go into system preferences, under trackpad, and choose to only use 1 tap as a selection and a two finger tap as right click (as opposed to the 1 and 2 finger presses). if you've used previous macs or even some pc laptops, the tap control method should be more familiar.

  • I have a macbook. :) and I love it. I am gonna buy the new macbook pro :)

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

  • i liike the old one much better.

  • Old Skwl!!

  • If you're willing to spend a little extra, I'd recommend the macbook pro. It has a VERY powerful video card (512mb vram) and a good screen for 15" (1400x900 rather than the typical 1280x800)

  • I hope you dont move ur comp. around like that, unless you have SSD.

  • The MacBooks have built in protection for the hard drives...

  • Get a macbook or macbook pro...

I hate PCs so much once I dicovered Macs!
