  • Anti gay is american core values..so is judeo christian

  • I'm proud he is one of my senators.

  • I'm a teabagger and I'm proud of it!!!!!

  • TEA BAGGERS!!!!!!

  • Rand Paul and and his father are what this country needs!

  • i like that Imperial Cruise is in the background. good book.

  • a de-regulated free market is a prerequisite for disaster... look at the Enron Scandal after the California de-regulation of the Energy markets... Hell Look at the Credit Cards, Airlines, Cable TV, and last but not least, the Banks... oh yeah, just get out of the way & let them defraud the tax payers...Argg!

Theres so much fraud right now that we've gotten lost trying to keep up... & its our Govt that allows it to happen, at our expense... so here's a conservative calling for more regulation..

  • @deficithawker I'm sorry, insults do you no favors here. Try using your brain for once to make your point. Let me guess... you can't. So you throw insults. Not surprised.

  • The Tea Party definition by a hot girl: watch?v=YuN-0rjwEQU

  • The tea party needs to change its name to the IPUCWM. Ignorant People United for Corrupt Wealthy Murderers. More tax breaks for rich jerks who don't give a rat's ass about you!!! The business criminals whacked Jonny the other day! But you didn't hear about it. Rich people and their arrogant VIP clubs where they go to plan the next killing while lobbying for unconstitutional bailouts. That's the ugly truth! The world isn't nice!

  • @4squaredby4times4 umm.. who the hell is jonny ??

as far as "unconstitutional bailouts", I'm with ya there... tax breaks are good only because it limits the income of the US Govt. & if by "rich people" you mean corporate influences on our leaders,.. then again, I'm in agreement with you...

the US Constitution was written as a restriction of Govt, 17 distinct properties & powers, ... but the Govt today litterally says,"it DOESN'T say we Can't do this"... & thats a power-monger at work

  • @Wrongway1965 LOL. Jonny is a guy I made up to illustrate the idea that the business criminals (like the mafia) commit secret murders.

  • Rand Paul is a cool guy.

  • Please, let us know who wont cut on the Republican side, Rand make a list and we'll kick them out. You're there because we fought for fiscal responsibility and it sounds like you're trying. Rand, when you run for President, ask Jeff Flake of Arizona to be your Vice-President. He has fought for spending cuts for a long time.

  • Go Rand!

  • Reclaim our Republic! Ron Paul 2012!

  • if Ron Paul is unable to run for president in 2012. I sure hope his son Ran Paul runs for president.

  • Rand Paul has a bright future and in turn that makes me a little bit more optimistic for the future of America.

  • Nick seemed at a loss for words at the end.

  • I voted for this guy! And I read Reason monthly! AWESOME.

  • Ron Paul is a sweet man but will never win. His views on not getting involved with other countries is foolish...and very Carterish. Rand does seem a little more realistic.

  • @CRMChicago Non-interventionism is an American ideal, interventionism is the fools errand.

  • @CRMChicago There are various logical reasons Ron Paul doesn't want to involve our militarily with other countries. First, it's impossible to balance the budget without cutting military. Second, nobody in their right mind would attack the US by traditional means. Our military spending goes to impose our will overseas which causes Blow-back through nontraditional means. We aren't saving the world. The US keeps people in power or takes them out with the military for resources primarily.

  • Great stuff, guys!

  • Rand Paul is better and more realistic than Ron Paul, none of this revolution garbage or goals that can't happen and globalist followings.

  • This man's father needs to be our next president! Ron Paul 2012!

  • Here's one cheer to Ron Paul for manning up and publicly claiming where he would cut and as an added bonus not just cutting programs but departments as well. Respect.

  • I am fiscally conservative and socially conservative. However, I don't believe it is morally right to use the government to impose my socially conservative views on others and I do not want the government to continue to impose other persons liberal fiscal and social views on me.

Government must stay out of social engineering. Any government powerful enough to impose your social views on other people is powerful enough to impose other peoples social views on you.

  • @XCritonX That is a wonderfully logical and moral view. We can live our lives by whatever standards we want, but we have no right to impose those standards on someone else.

  • @XCritonX Unfortunately you can also have liberal social engineering by the government as well. Homosexual activists have tried for years through anti-bullying, pro-same-sex marriage, anti-DOMA, and hate crimes legislation to promote acceptance of homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle.

  • @XCritonX

What does social conservatism mean to you? Because you use the term in a way that is unfamiliar to me.

  • @PanzerDivisionBOM following viewpoints like anti abortion, low taxes, anti gay marriage, and other generally christian/conservative viewpoints. Kind of an ironic statement considering he was talking about not forcing viewpoints on others.

  • @Andy180084

That's what I thought it meant, but you kind of have to assume that this person means something different by it. Like how Benjamin Tucker called himself a socialist.

  • @Andy180084 he means he believes these things personally and that he DOES NOT support the right of the state to impose his views on others. Lrn2Read

  • @benchfordeath in that case he wouldn't need to speak about them.

All in all i'm ok with the paleo-conservatives like Paul(s)

  • @XCritonX Amen brother!

  • @XCritonX So, politically, you are not socially conservative. Personally, you are. Right? If so, I definitely agree.

Social engineering, no matter who is doing it, is just wrong. Civilized, free people don't walk around threatening others to force them to behave "respectably", nor do they use the government as a proxy to do so. (They also don't threaten people to get their money, or use the government as a proxy to "tax" them for their special interests....)

  • Another hard-hitting interview from Reason. Why not call Rand out on his claim that it's time to drop social conservative issues when he introduced a bill to ban abortion?

  • @AnotherUserNamedPaul He introduced a bill to ban abortion? or end federal funding for abortion?

  • @Aryaba S. 91 and it's called the 'Life at Conecption Act', and I was mistaken that he did not introduce it himself but cosponsored from day one. "To implement equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person. " I would argue that whether the bill is to ban abortions or stop funding them, it's a socially conservative issue that, while important, pales in comparison to the destruction of the dollar.

  • @AnotherUserNamedPaul Just read the bill (it is rather short). It does indeed look like a ban on abortion. I personally don't think government should introduce this type of bill, but I really don't have a horse in the race.

  • The Emancipation Proclamation was NOT within presidental power and FORCED the southern representatives to leave congress. Lincoln then declared war on America aka High Treason!

  • Rand is NOT a TRUE LIBERTARIAN like his father, Ron!

One CAN be a "fiscal conservative" and a "social liberal" aka LIBERTARIAN like Thomas Jefferson!

  • All agencies & programs established since 1985 must be DEFUNDED!

  • Bastiat's "The Law" for Paul's staffers?? lol...they'll quit their jobs and become anarchists.

  • Rand is a better speaker than his dad was at his age.

  • this rules

  • Whether you agree with him or not, this guy has the balls to get something done.

  • That was superb! I'm never disappointed when Dr. Paul speaks. And YES being an intern would be the best experience since you would also be able to associate with his father too.

  • Comment removed

  • I see Imperial Cruis on the shelf behind Rand. That's a stunning book to read. You realize what a racist psycho and war criminal Teddy Roosevelt really was.

  • @032125 I had wondered what book that was. I enlarged it to read the title. It would be cool to know what books are on his reading list and what books have influenced him besides the ones that are mentioned in this interview.

  • @032125 I'm starting to realize that pretty much everyone was racist back then - especially jews and brits.

  • @MoneyIsSilver Most people; not everyone. Not Lysander Spooner, not, as far as I can tell, VonMises.

Teddy was a particularly virulent mixture of machismo, nationalism, racism, and naivete that resulted in so much suffering and death. Anyhow Imperial Cruise; good book, and I'm glad Rand is reading it.

  • I wish I could be Rand's intern. That would be cool.

  • He'll be a perfect VP for RP. The best chance for our country.

  • Here's what bothers me. Why must we abide by what the Democrats want, when NONE of it is Constitutional? Why do we have to compromise when these traitors, yes traitors, when we should not? Why must we accommodate the Left, when everything they want is Unconstitutional, yet WE must cut defense spending, which IS Constitutional? Even if it is wasteful, which it is, why must we first consider that before considering the unconstitutional stuff the Left wants?

  • @MikeTMerciless - Agreed. Being bi-partisan means giving in to evil, failure, and wrong. The things they want are not found in the Constitution. The things we want ARE. It's as simple that.

  • @thomaserossi See, I'm now beginning to see that we need a SECOND Party. The Tea Party, perhaps. Or maybe led my someone like me, with testicles. I hate being on defensive. This is OUR NATION, and OUR WAY OF LIFE we're talking about. Why must we compromise with those that are opposed to that?

I'm sorry it took me this long to see that the Republicans are not up to the challenge. I'm terribly sorry I did not step up. I'm not fooled any longer.

  • @MikeTMerciless It takes a while for the best of us..it just proves that you are loyal. with our modern education system its a wonder how anyone can come to the truth about constitutional government and what it really should be. I have been against the current 2 party system since '92. I did an overlook of the parties. neither serve us anylonger. independents and Libertarians... who ever sticks to the constitution those are the ones who get my vote.

  • @MikeTMerciless There needs to be a review of the constitutionality of it all. if it does not fit in the framework of the Document it is thrown out or it goes to the pervue of the states. The power is in the states! that is where the challenges to all of this crap is going to come from. we are just starting to see that with the nullification movement.

  • @JRWtheIII

The problem is that Supreme court judges make those decisions, and Supreme court judges are appointed by the President (with the advice and consent of the senate). IOW, they are appointed by the federal government. So, of course, they always interpret the constitution in favor of more federal power. (Interstate commerce clause, General welfare clause, and Supremacy clause were all misinterpreted). As long as the supreme court makes those decisions, the constitution is dead.

  • @JRWtheIII

The founders knew damn well that the constitution would be twisted and misinterpreted in favor of federal power and this is what the purpose of succession and nullification was for. Nullification in the case of federal law that a particular state deemed unconstitutional, and succession in the case of an out of control federal government (like today!). But of course, government schools made sure to teach students that those words are dirty, and today politically incorrect.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing Rand run, but not this year. Give him a couple of terms in the Senate to get experienced, and maybe he could run in 2016. This would be especially good if Ron takes office in 2012, or if Obama is somehow reelected in 2012, then by 2016 enough people will have realized just how necessary libertarian principles are to our near-future survival as a nation.

  • If he were to run on A Tea Party presidential ticket the social conservatives would sink him and he would be tied to looney tunes like Michelle Bachmann. Never mind the big gov't folks on the left (and right) who would demonize him from the start. A prophet is not without honor save in his own land.

  • The Ted Kennedy line made me laugh my balls off... I love Nick Gillespie

  • if a Paul makes it to the white house I will straight up join the marines (if I'm not too old by then)

  • Outstanding.

  • Rand is the Shit.

  • I doubt 500B$ would ever be politically possible unless the Libertarian Party takes control of Congress and White House. But 200B$ a year id definitely possible with the current parties in power. If the Party Leaderships doesn't get in the way.

  • I love this man

  • @runningformoney I do too...because he loves liberty.

  • US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner shocked global markets by revealing that Washington is "quite open" to Chinese proposals for the gradual development of a global reserve currency run by the International Monetary Fund

  • Brilliant. All three guys I could listen to discuss issues for hours. Cheers!

  • This was an excellent idea. More longer interviews, please! Though I'm not a conservative, more cooperation with Heritage or even AEI seems like a good idea, too.

  • thumbs up

  • Its nice to see longer interviews like this.

  • African slavery was private slavery, big government is public slavery.

  • Most politicians turn out to be disappointments and worse than expected. Rand Paul is the opposite - I was skeptical - but he's proven to be more Libertarian than I thought. He pulled a bait-n-switch on me, but in the best way possible! : )

  • I love how Nick has a black Tshirt and leather jacket on... the other two? Suit and tie... :)

  • @eagleeye1975 don't forget the sideburns. that guy is just awesome.

  • Well, at least Paul's idea to give the interns something is only books, which is a good idea. However thank God (Bill) Clinton isn't giving things out to interns these days (you hope). You could say Bill took it too far when he was president that one time.

  • 22:33 - "Some libertarians criticize me because I say I want to reform Social Security rather than privatize it."

  • 17:10 - "Five minutes before Chappaquiddick."

    Ouch, Nick.

  • Rand Paul and Reason are synonymous! I would love to see him run for president in 2012, but I think he's needed in the Senate more at the moment.

  • 10:14 - "Who is they?" Hehehe.

  • principled yet reasonable

  • Jim DeMint had it backwards. You can't be a social conservative and not be a fiscal conservative. Take away responsibility, and you've got no right to complain when people don't raise their families right.

  • I am fiscalyl conservative and socially liberal.

  • folks, this country is screwed. The only way we have of minimizing is by getting real reform n 2012, but that might be too late.

  • I recognize that book The Imperial Cruise...

  • This is probably the only guy I would ever vote for just because he seems genuine and not fake like every other politician.

  • "Liberal" is equally meaningless.

  • 70 years? I'm pretty sure the New Deal started 80 years ago if you're looking for unconstitutional federal agencies

  • Much more likeable than his dad.

  • @reapfreak, maybe. I personally enjoy hearing his dad talk more. but rand is awesome too

  • Great guy. We need 535 of him in congress and 9 in the Supreme court.

  • B.S. and lies. What's worse is that Mr. Paul isn't stupid, he knows he's fudging numbers. He knows he's lying to make his position.

  • @ffreakboy which numbers?

  • @ffreakboy Delineate & Clarify please. If possible, could you provide a link to the data that backs your claim?

    Thank You

  • [ Admirable man. Sound mind, principle and conviction, just like the old Paul. ]

  • Good work, ReasonTV. Can't go wrong with a 30 minute discussion with Rand Paul.

  • If Ran Paul thinks entitlement reform is necessary, I hope the public recognizes that it must be managed in a responsible way. However, it is apparent, even from Ran Pauls discussion that compromise and responsible discussions just aren't happening in our Congress or in our government, so how can we the people trust that any type of spending cuts, or entitlement reforms would be done responsibly.

  • @joan2897 so everything at this point is being done so responsibly, that it requires no reform?

  • I've been withholding my respect for a loooong time for this guy and Chris Christie.

  • Boy oh boy I’d like to see Rand Paul run for President one day. He leans toward libertarian views, has less stigma attached to his name than his father, and doesn’t appear timid to stand against the D.C. machine.

I only hope he doesn’t become tainted, by the Potomac Two-step.

  • @PoliticallyBlazed If it hasn't tainted his father, I'm sure it won't taint him.

  • @bittergunowner12: "If it hasn't tainted his father, I'm sure it won't taint him."

You’re probably correct and I expressed the concern only because Washington seems to have a way of corrupting those we send there.

  • @PoliticallyBlazed I understand your concerns, but this as you and I both agree on, probably won't happen.

  • @PoliticallyBlazed It is a virtual certainty that Rand Paul will be the Tea Party candidate for presidency. Whether that will be 2012 or 2016 depends mostly I think on whether Ron Paul takes the plunge again. I hope Ron Paul does, as that will give Rand more seasoning time, making him all the more effective later. Also, I expect by 2016, the US will be deep in the throes of the collapse only now impending, and the people will be ready for the 'big change'.

  • @Panpiper Agree, I'm working and focusing on the states in case there is no USA by then

  • @Panpiper: "It is a virtual certainty that Rand Paul will be the Tea Party candidate for presidency. Whether that will be 2012 or 2016 depends mostly I think on whether Ron Paul takes the plunge again."

2012 is too early; Rand would never be nominated by the party. As for his father? Good man too although he seems to attract a fringe element of support, which taints his candidacy, and COULD reflect poorly on Rand.

  • @PoliticallyBlazed We can only hope he runs! I will stop most everything I do if we can get him in!

  • @NCIcaucus: "We can only hope he runs! I will stop most everything I do if we can get him in!"

And you’re not alone I’m sure. Personally I’d donate considerable sums to his campaign and would even take an active roll of support, which I’ve never done with another candidate.

...There is genuine HOPE for America yet!

  • @PoliticallyBlazed He will run for president after Ron Paul stops running for it.
