  • Looks like fun!

Fishermen cuss almost as much as we lie.

    Deal with it!

  • is it just me or is the shooter wearing cowboy boots. i can hear them click on the deck when he walks

  • maybe 50pounds

  • Idiots...

  • awesome butt i love butt fishing i soear fish halibut as well as commercialy fish them and fish them for sport i love halibutt more then anyne and have caught far far more in more areas from meico to alaska then anyone i love em! one of the top 3 fish in world to eat bar non top 3 easily along with wahoo and white seabass

  • A great catch! The size of the catch will surprise fishermen.

Large enough to hook size that would be necessary to capture fish.

It is true that the size of this fish kill quickly is challenging.

People who have distanced themselves from living in the wild do not understand the whole fishing, their power comes from electric plugs, they eat frozen fish... halibut is a delicacy...njam

  • Nice video, never mind the clueless trolls.

  • Someone teach the idiot with the gun where the halibuts brain is...what an asshat.

  • why you kill it?

  • @BoilieTv mainly because if i tried to eat it when it was still alive it might jump off my plate.

  • @BoilieTv what!?

  • rookies.......shoot em once, do it right

  • whats the point of fishing if ure not gona eat the damn thing

  • ese pescado tiene que ser toxico, despues de meterle tanto plomo...

  • Nice fish.

  • great video 1983 too

  • way to be cruel dont have to kill use a traqulizer

  • @FitvSkyvHigh you're an idiot, animals wouldn't be on earth if they weren't meant to be killed. And he didn't kill it for nothing, it was eaten.

  • 6 bullets???? really?

  • a gun? what a wank.. or wankers rather.

  • amateurs

  • im surprised it took a clip and keeps floppin. i wonder if its just nerve impulse

  • I don't understand why you guys are whining. Think of it this way, they caught the fish to keep it and eat it. So would you rather have them shoot the fish and try to kill it quickly. Or would you rather have the fish slowly suffocate and die by lack of oxygen. You guys make it sound like this dudes a monster for shooting the fish. Well they planned on keeping it, and the only other option was to let the fish suffocate. Don't like the videos, don't watch them.

  • he needs target practice

  • i think its around 180 kilo, ive never seen people shot them befor getting them onboard... :o but i do know then it is much easyer ... haha :D

  • very nice video, too bad it took a bunch of shots to kill it.

I fished commercially in Alaska for a while and at one time we fished closed to 5,700 lbs. of halibut in one day, aberage weigth of each fish was 250 lbs, part of my job was to cut the blood line of the fish and at one time I found my self in a pool of blood it stonk so bad it made me sick. It was one of the most exaiting moments of my life. Thanks for sharing your video.

  • @alfredososaable hello. and thanks. i bet that slime line was indeed unforgettable!

  • Are they fishing to eat? Or just for some fun-whatever? If you dont mess with it, halibut will obviously dont do anything to you. What a waste of such a nice big creature.

  • @Mauromoustakos yes of course it is for eating.

you must live a long way from an ocean.

  • @floydstinkyboy

I am lucky to live in an island. Half an hour to one hour from many beaches.

  • @floydstinkyboy

I am lucky to live in an island. Half an hour to one hour from many beaches.

  • @floydstinkyboy bs u ate 300 pounds of hallibut?

  • @bettydaw1970 yes we ate the whole thing. have you ever heard of a freezer? you know, where you can store food for later use? how about sharing? ever heard of sharing? you know, where you share food with your friends? maybe try that sometime instead of trolling youtubes.

  • @Mauromoustakos they're gonna eat him for sure, halibut is some good fish meat.

  • @Mauromoustakos ... they are delecious man

  • I have never been alaska fishing or anything like that or even halibut fishing. but DAMN, that's what fishing's all about right there. and hell, i would shoot the damn thing too. especially something that big. no doubt about it. good work guys.

  • you pussy I pulled in one of those with a hand line you pussy fuckers

  • MMMMM the ste4ak of the ocean. Great video and great fish.

  • The tradition of a shotgun blast to the head is mandatory for any halibut that size for the safety of the people in the boat. If people don't like the practice, fish for another species where it can be avoided. This isn't a game fish. It's the most delicious fish in the world and runs about $20lb for fillets around here. LOL That's more than what king crab costs.

  • Obviously from the comments I have seen, none of these people know how easy a Halibut can kill a man. They are shot for a very good reason.

  • @trappingusa yep. a fellow named Joseph Cash was killed by one, down in petersburg, a while back.

  • What an idiot !!!!

He shoots the fish from point blank range....

and STILL can't kill it !!!

I suggest he takes up another hobby,

    because he can't fish,

and he certainly can't shoot !!!!

What a loud mouth yankee cock !!!!

  • fucking pussies shooting the god damn fish bring him in like your suppose to or dont do it all all

  • @balla32636 I am leaving for Homer Alaska again on Thursday. I have caught Halibut numerous times over the years. Unless you have done the same I suggest you stay quiet. A fish that size will kill you with one flick of its tail. They do not mess around with those bad boys. They are shot for a reason!

  • @trappingusa biggest hali i have caught was in alaskin was about 221 lbs and we did not shoot it. there are also videos on here of people catching 300+ pounders that dont shoot them so no i wont stay quite fish and catch them the right way or dont do it at all you fucking pussy the fight will be alot longer but who cares why go fishing if you dont want the fish to fight? havent found any evidence what so ever to support your tail flicking claim either

  • @trappingusa i commercial fished halibut's for a while and we usually caught 60-110 pounders. When they got up around 90+ they would be strong enough to smack u once and send u out of the boat. Luckly they have no fight in them left since they use all their fight up on the long line underwater waiting to be pulled up. But i can imagine a 200+ hitting u in the legs hard enough that it could potentially break a few bones. I don't see that you could die from one unless you get hit in the head.

  • don't like that shooting. just injuring the fish.

  • i have never seen such a problem dealing with a helly in my life get a shark hook and stick it in its head and let it die then pull it in

  • @nelson8073 if it were a Shark it would die if gaffed in the head. However Halibut are very different you'll notice in other video's of Halibut being shot. They are shot below the head and then cut approximately 4 to 5 in. into their bodies below the head and then left to die.So I wanna see you Stick it and pull it on board. That fish would turn you into a bowl of jelly.

  • Yeah, halibut of that size can break legs or worse if you end up with a live one on the boat. They should be gaffing this one from the side, not hand-hauling iut from the platform. This guy (captain?) is a moron.

  • I need to do some fishing that involves a firearm.

  • yeh he based in northland New Zealand, since the diving onto a marlin seems to become pretty famous and he going around the world fishing.

Id love to have a go at one of these bad boys . heard the can kill a person . like a over gorwen flounder haha, can they only be caught in these freezing waters or are they common else where as well?

  • yes people have been killed. or died from their injuries. actually, its cold, not frozen, where they live. from the bering sea down to california along the west coast. they move around alot.

  • matt watson from New Zealand caught a 200lb + with a hand line and rubber cannoe . oh.. and.. didnt shoot it how lame is that?? - Good ol Americans and guns haha... You tube "matt watson" - see a real fisherman

  • wimp

  • who the guy that has to shoot the fish?? Matt watson is a extreme fisher man, marlin on a surf board, marlin in a dinghy, jumping from helicopters onto fish, , check him out and we see about wimp - or check "Ultimate fishing show"

  • meh

that sissy wouldn't last five seconds in these arctic waters.

  • errrmmm he caught a 200lb helibut in a rubber canoe, and used a shark hook to bring it up... on a hand line.. got towed around the bay for hour plus with camera boat following, was somewhere in alaska. remember this was on a hand line... you may want to google him and watch a few of his shows. good ol kiwis mate

  • dude he did a show in alaska , on a 2 m rubber dinghy , hand line and shark hook he caught a 200bl helibut. no gun , or rod or reel... so yeh ... cant be much of a sissy huh.

he a nutter , but a champ at that. was some where in alaska getting towed around the bay by a helibut. google and try find a few of his shows , the helibut one a recent one not sure if its up loaded yet,

by the way what do these fish taste like?

  • okay so he's a stud that's got nuthin to do with amerika and new zealand.

so anyway, they are about the finest most delicious fish you can eat. no bones, flaky white flesh. especially the ones from 40 up to about 150 or so pounds. most people don't like the huge ones so much when it comes to texture they can get stringy.

  • It was indeed exciting. Thanks for putting it up for us to see. I missed the shooting, though, and will have to go back again to see it. Thought the fish had been all played out. Hah.

  • no, i think that was a bluegill.

a halibut steak is a real treat!

  • Was that a Uniflite?

I prefer the 50 lb range for eating...

  • Hi, I just checked the fishing site. Your video is watched there 34 times already. I also see an honor from the Netherlnds, seems like they add to your view count, cool.

  • whoee that is excellent. i hear YT counts the views, as long as they are not coming from autoplay. thanks!

  • Oh, I did not know about that autoplay aspect but it sounds pretty fair to me. I saw each video there is at least watched 500 times, going up to 3000. Your video is featured on the page. Rainy day in Holland, I guess many ppl will be online today.

I think it is a bit disappointing a view is added too when we see our own videos, bad for rating. I often go to my videos to reply or add some extra info or annotations.

  • that is really neat. 180 views for you 8 for me hahahaa

  • If we see Statistics & Data / Sites linking to this video (5) I think that means 5 ppl embedded it on their channel (f.e. Facebook, Hyves, etc). If I press on those links I end up at the beet site every time.

That links have 123 views together, the beet site has 144 views now, your video 210. I don't understand that stats yet...

  • That fish did not like getting shot. Not a tactic I've seen before. I suppose there's no excuse for not landing a fish with 5 Magnum rounds in it.

  • no doubt mr bean, man if you bring one on board that size while still alive, you might be in for real trouble. I have read of at least one fellow who was killed by a fish like that, when it started thrashing around on deck, so shooting a huge one is not uncommon.

  • that is one hell of a fish, love and respect scotty and libby:0)ps my personal best is a 25lb reef shark

  • Wow!!!

  • Hahaha, you made that video and quick too, I'm impressed !

Now THAT is some serious fishing !

Hehe, what happened, the whole village ate halibut for a week? :-D

I can offer this video to a big Dutch fishing magazine if you like. That might bring you many views...

  • yes lots of food there. and yes please feel free to share far and wide.

  • Ok, I am at the site now: beet magazine.

I will send in your video. I am curious but think if ppl play it there one view is added to yours. I don't think they will pay you for it but they should... Dutch ppl will love to see this !

    I will add your sitename.

  • OK...if you payed those guys minimum wage...now how many guys? 5? and the boat and supplies...now tell me how much per edible pound that Halibut is costing you? :-)

  • good question! the fisherman's lament.
