Goofy ending, but Stemme really is conquering the operatic world with her Wagner and Strauss. Bravissima! Solid vocal technique and good appearance. She did look like a youthful Salome.
She is very good, has the voice and looks for the role, and can sing all the notes well. I saw her as Isolde in Bayreuth in 2005, great singing despite the horrible Marthaler production. But she is unsuited to Italian roles. The ending here is grotesque. Hysterical directors who do not follow the libretto and insist on adding their own "magnificent visions" should be fired first and then shot dead, to prevent contagion of their stupidity from spreading.
I met Stemme after her first ARABELLA in Gothenburg a few years ago. Isolde to Arabella!!! Now how many sopranos do you know who can do both? No one but Steme. And she's the finest today...totally amazing voice.
why can't directors follow the script nowadays? EVER? they think they are better than the librettist? they think the original story is boring? they want to show they are original? what?
Such a sad ending and I don't mean that in the literal sense. The whole intensity leading up to that point just went down the train. But a wonderful singer! I'm not too crazy about her acting. I'm not convinced she is a little girl by her mannerisms. But I do like her voice.
What a beautiful, powerful voice and such an intense, attractive woman. The music is magnificent. But that conception of the opera and the indifferent directing needs to be flushed down the toilet. The birthday cake head is a cheapo joke, and Stemme's gifts are wasted if this is all they're going to do to the final scene of "Salome."
too bad there's not more of this -- nina looks and sounds amazing. i'm a bit disappointed we only get her for ariadne on the east coast. how i wish she were doing the sentas instead of debbie...
Well, you are absolutely right...I saw this production twice in Barcelona...and people were shouting her name during the applauce. She was amazing. I would love if she stayed in Europe because I would be able to see her more...sorry:) Yes, her Senta is amazing...simply cathartic at the end when she sings: Ich bin's, durch deren Treu...she will sing it is Vienna and in Munich this year...come!!! Anyway, I suggest that everyone read the interview she gave in London about the start of her carrier
Yes, you are right! I have already seen her twice as Senta, only twice but I will try to see all the three in Vienna next march! Try to catch her Isolde if you have any chance, it is worth I garantee it!:))) And read the article I suggested!
See that production at Liceu 2 months ago: 10 points to Nina and the rest of the crew.
But the scenographic production was a Shaft from begin to end: none scene was credible and the seven veil dance was substituted by a "philosophical" home made video.
Vocally, the best of all Salome, EVER, Montserrat Caballe, this lady is also Excellent and I saw Caballe in this same theater

Nina Stemme is probably the best dramatic soprano out there currently. Who was that guy Herod ran away from, Jochanaan?
