Emotive playing doesn't have to represent a David Gilmore-style stoned weeping of the soul: intensity of playing and speed can impose several feelings. Besides that, this is not part of a song - it's a display of technicality. Arguing that this is not music or that this is shit is ridiculous: it's a different style to most of the beginner-level 'hater's' favourite bands disliking it on Youtube and it is just to show his technical prowess, which is unashamedly incredible.

It seems that most people (judging by the first page of comments) haven't realized that this isn't a video showing off his technique...it's just something that looks and sounds impressive. All he's doing is muting the strings just past the nut with his picking hand and hammering random notes with his left hand while maneuvering his eyebrows in a way that would make you think he's doing something ridiculously hard but very easy for him.

People that have just technique fail in the guitar virtuoso world and people with just theory fail in the guitar virutoso world. Even if you have a high standard of both doesn't mean you can create innovative music or ever simple songs that people enjoy listening to on their way to work or something. It isn't even applied just to music anyway. An aircraft pilot would need good theory and technique for that proffession and i'm you can think of many other proffessions aswell.
