How can the commentator say the 6R4 was ugly?? It was Miss World compared to the Lancia. OK, not as fast but a far better looking car and sounded better in my opinion. The Metro lasted quite a few years longer in competion than the SD4.

This is crazy, nowadays its like 19 stages over 2-3 days.

Tony Pond was fighting a cold during that rally, as were most of us marshals. I was sat in a VW camper van in the Forest of Ae in -10 degree C  temps. Modern rallying is nothing like it was then, and I think we lost a lot when they started reducing the length of the rallies :(

Bring back the RAC and the group B supercars. You cant beat the sound of them coming through a wood or a welsh mountain.

That is strange. I know he went to Ford later but he had some nice results during 1985 and was far from the worst audi driver.

As the FIA have made a mess of all Motorsport is it not about time someone got Rallying back to what it once was. Yes Group B was dangerous but with better safety and crowd control i am sure we could have modern Rally cars with this power.

I hope Ari Vatanen takes over Max Mosley and becomes the new president of FIA as its rumoured he is ! Modern Rally cars are faster than group B but only because of technology the stage times set by these monsters have been beaten but only in the last 10 years . . Modern rallying is soooo boring 2 watch now i cant wait till active diffs and turbos are ban because the cars will sound awsome and be more exciting to watch the cars will need to be driven by the driver not the brain of the car .

@Ricko301 Too bad it was Vatanen's team principle Jean Todt that won FIA presidency, modern rally cars are not faster than groub B, tires have just come that far. why ban turbo? turbo's dont make driving any easier because boost at low rpm's is sometimes unpredictable though in modern times it isn't anymore. if anything they should ban traction control and ABS and stability management.

I know exactly what you guys mean ! RAC was the best rally in the world, the drivers didn't like the spectator stages, but you can clearly see how much the crowd loved it! I bunked off a regular school day to go and see the '85 rally, and have great memories of the Donington stage. I was also in Dyfnant when that stage was cancelled.
