aw man i remember mckenzies they had one in covington,la im from bogalusa, i also miss this donut place called''butter krisp'' also in covington man what memories
McKenzies for the most part was awful. I know these are fighting words for some people, but I swear their stuff came out of the oven stale. No better than any other supermarket bakery. Buttermilk drops were ok and some other stuff was edible, but nothing special. Nostalgia is a powerful emotion and people remember it being better than it ever really was.
@hassledguy You know what? I agree. The only things that were good at McKenzie's were the buttermilk drops and blackout cake, maybe. Everything else was so-so, IMHO.
@hassledguy BOOOOOOOO, nah just playing...lol, I feel where you are coming from. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. A lot of people would swear that Mckenzies had the best donuts but I disagree. But to each his own. I was more of a tastees donuts man personally. I just went to McKenzies off of Gentilly for their chicken.
Why did Ponchartrain Beach show the little girl hurling on the Magic Rainbow ride at :57 on this video? One would think it would be best to keep this out! We love this commercial montage--- I got da fitty dollas!
Awesome flashbacks. My Daddy told me when he was a kid in the 40s and 50s, one of the big Canal Street stores, Kress, Goudchaux's, I can't remember which, had clerks who would help kids shop for gifts for their parents. The parents had to leave and shop elsewhere in the store while the kids picked out a present. Can you imagine in today's paranoia parents leaving their kids with a stranger for half an hour? I wish my kids could grow up in a world like that.
This brings tears to my eyes because of the fact that after Katrina, I have barely been back. You know what.... I AM GOING TO MOVE BACK TO MY CITY SOON.
Someone always has to show their ignorance by opening their mouth, or in this case, typing on their keyboard. It always amuses me to see such courageous people behind their computers. There was no need to be disrespectful. Seriously, grow up.
@TrixieRix I know which comment you are talking about. It's amazing how courageous these people can be behind the computer. PURE COWARD is the only way I can describe this person! Just enjoy the old commercials and keep your sorry ass comments to your sorry self!
i miss seeing the special man commerial i did a joke in class teacher wanted me to go to the office i said "ill let ya have it WIT NO PROLUM!!!" haha i had a laugh and damn i want some of those buttermilk drops the one on Airline hwy always had dem fresh mmmm damn i hate being up here in memphis...it sucks up here
I think the F&J commercial is either more recent, or maybe an 80s/90s commercial that they updated. I don't remember the younger guy being in any of the ones from when I was a kid. I never saw him until youtube.
The Rosenberg's commercial is really old, maybe late 60s, but they've been running it for decades pretty much unchanged.
I have pics of my brother and me at Pontchartrain beach back in 1958 or so. I remember going to the rides every year with my grandfather, and to the beach and pool with my family. There was a "hell dive" that I finally got the nerve to jump off of. The Zephyr (roller coaster) was great, as was the Wild Maus. There used to be (maybe still is) a website about Pontchartrain Beach.
Pnchatrain Beach... Never heard of that til now. Is that now "Six Flags Louisiana," or something like it?
Shortly after moving from N'Yawlinz to Buffalo in 80, we heard of, and once went to "Crystal Beach!" That's in Canada. Anyway, it has since shut down, and is just a walkway, if I recall it right.
Pontchartrain Beach was on.. well, Pontchartrain beach at the south end of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans near UNO. I went once before it closed in the early 80's. It was uprooted for what I believe was to be beachfront houses but that never materialized. I worked in a bar that collected memorabilia from there such as old arcade games, signs, "Zoltar"-type fortune tellers, season passes, pictures, which were all probably destroyed by Katrina...
"Put this man to work" was LAS Enterprises. The old guy who sat there looking scared to death was Oscar. He died a few years ago and everyone was grief-stricken. But LAS is still around.
We all must be around 60 years now and scatttered over the face of the earth, but hope you people are doing fine and well especially after Katrina. BUT...what about Maison Blanche's Mr. Bingle ? You can't forget that.
Awesome....I don't know where you got this, but, it brought back some great memories. I remember Rosenberg's and Seafood City really well. Sweet stuff!!!!

Ponchartrain beach was New Orleans' only amusement park and it closed down in the mid 80's. They built a bunch of condos there to replace it.
