Appearently bullshit is medicare that costs less per person than private insurance that the elderly overwhelmingly supports, and the 2.3 Billion dollar fine that Pfizer just got is a figment of our imaginations. Only idiotic conservatives have enough balls to try to defend an industry with so much waste, fraud, and fines paid for improper practices. While their own rates go up and up. Sad.
The PUBLIC OPTION is still very much on the table and still within our reach. Now is the time to be as active as you possibly can. In the comment section of my profile I have several resources that will help you get started including phone numbers, petitions and so much more. This profile is a community activist project that has a wide variety of information. Thanks.
There would be almost no discussion about the public option, it would be a given, if the right wing religious conservatives cared about people AFTER they were born.
Because, per an article in THe Nation Magazine, those groups are allied with for-profit adoption services. Poor women are just baby factories for rich couples they market to. The kind of person who needs public help with child care is not who they market babies to. And if poor moms could get public help with their pregnancies, they would not give up their babies to the baby brokers. The more people who are desperate, the more the churches can front for the rich with charity not justice.
We need a Bill that includes a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION and the Baucus bill as it now stands is not acceptable. Please be more active, For ways in which you can do that visit the comment section of my profile. Thanks.
We often look to Sweden, that icon of a successful society. Oddly enough, they are returning to Free Market Capitalism and privatizing medicine. Some never learn, but the Swed's do.
InTheSticks...Care to elaborate where you are getting this fantasy info from? Do you ever lived there? Weird thing being I have and got lots of freinds throughout Scandinavia and they say you are making shit up.
Stop annoying the poor little Neo-Tard shill with those pesky fact type things! Remember, they prefer to feel their way through life, thinking is for sissies and commies!
Who else "feels" their way through things? Oh, I don't know....people in the dark and the blind come to mind rather quickly.
There are a few things people need to consider when thinking that bigger government is more beneficial to the people Over the last 50 years, government has been taking over the private sector (growing). The separation of wealth has been widening Increase of inmates for victimless crimes.. People are becoming more and more in debt And the standard of living has been decreasing.. Sure, we should give them control of our health care It cant get any worse right?
LOL of course "most doctors" want universal health care, it would bring an "unlimited" amount of money in to the market "provided" by the government! Would they like to provide public health care and receive 50K per year? What if the private health care sector was outlawed at the same time? Who the fuck would study for 20 years to become a medical professional if they could be making a living in a less demanding sector during that time, instead of getting in to debt by going to school?
You seem to have confused the term "health care" with INSURANCE. The dysfunctional health care 'system' America has is due, primarily, because OF the insurance industry's constraint ON the patient.
If you need life saving treatment that has been denied by your carrier, who then pays but those WITH the money.
And doctor salaries wouldn't be THAT greatly affected. If anything, doctors might be able to see patients more efficiently, thus more income.
I believe you are correct not to trust the insurance companies in America, but I think you fail to see exactly how they have taken control. They have taken control thru lobbying the government to restrict the amount of licenses in any given State and in some cases, making it against the law to purchase insurance in other states. If a FREE MARKET existed to provide HEALTH CARE, companies would have to compete for their customers making the quality of service better and cheaper IMO.
The free market has never and can never exist, people with brains find ways to fuck the market and buy-off competition. Either you regulate the market, or cunning businessmen will organize to destroy it.
wow, If you think what is going on in the US right now is capitalism then you are either the real chewbaca from starwars or on some retarded weed. wither way when you come down to earth you should really pick up a book or two about capitalism.
Obama is a centrist like every other modern president, but he leans a little to the left. Liberalism is not built on speeches and towering rhetoric, it's built on policy. I think that Obama will be to liberals what Nixon was to conservatives- the campaign tactics are there and the PR is effective (for now), but the policy doesn't strongly lean in either direction. Conservatives wanted Goldwater; they got Nixon. Liberals wanted someone like Kucinich; they got Obama.
Dear SweatLaser, Ahhh, but there is one difference in your comparison that you did not mention. LIBERALS DISAGREE WITH OBAMA ON ~ Iraq, Afghanistan and Mid-East Policy ~ Detention/TORTURE ~ DADT ~ DOMA ~ Economy/Geithner ~ Visitor logs ~ Domestic Surveillance/DHS Conservatives hearted Nixon. You know it. We know it.Just who's Admin. did Rumsfeld come from? And who's did usher in Cheney? Heart Heart Heart.
Nixon was no good to conservatives from day one. He governed largely as a liberal, just like every other president of the time. He raised taxes, tried to create universal health care, created the Environmental Protection Agency, and indexed Social Security for inflation. There's a very big difference between Nixon's image and his actual style of governance.
So, your "conservative" heroes happened to all act like a liberal. You had two choices when confronted with the evidence, 1. realize that the "conservative" and "liberal" agenda is BULLSHIT. Or continue believing in fairy tales and keep holding your breath for that "perfect" president of yours who will miraculously balance the budget, and bring free markets. Keep dreaming, it will never happen.
You've been punked, it's a plutocracy, and we're made to hate each other.
EXTREMELY disappointing - to say the least. It is stunning to me that Pres. Obama would not include these docs in the meetings. Thank you, RealNews, for letting us know what's going on.
To me, this isn't stunning in the slightest. Obama ran on a very generic platform, allowing his constituents to fill in the policy gaps themselves. Through the expansion of Mid-East wars, increasing weapon spending and sales, turning a blind eye to right-wing fascism in S. America, and his absolute refusal to stand up for public health care, Obama has made clear what his agenda is *not*, and that is to carry out the will of his constituents. We'll just have to keep HOPING for that CHANGE.
The American Medical Association is the largest physician organization in the country and they support President Obama. I'm for single payer. But I know there are other realities going on. The super wealthy in this country control people through fear and demoralization. Going all the way to single payer would be give power to the Republican lie that government is going to take over health care. Fake News knows big change comes in increments, so they attack the President posturing from the left
i forget the exact statistic but doesn't like 90% of americas wealth belong to a mere 5%? (although i don't know the statistic you can easily get where im going.) Chances are, its not even proletariat money that'll be used on the program. we need to tax harder to make the lives of everyone else better
I don't know about current "ownership" percentages. I do know that in the last 30 years, 90% of the wealth our country has generated has gone to the top 10%, but a big chunk of that went to the top 0.1%. That's why it's hilarious when conservatives go all apoplectic whining about how the top 10% pays 80-something percent of all the taxes. They're actually getting a good deal.
was is healthcare such a big deal? You have Public schools? Public Police? Public sector inventions i.e. at MIT. even your computer was invented by the public sector
Most liberals understand how you feel. However, most understand that on a higher level, it's not really "your" money.
It took a system to raise you, it took a system to ensure there was a job for you. You can convince yourself all day long that you are in control of everything; however, the truth will remain that you are a thread in a fabric and you send ripples through society.
Perhaps it would be easier 4 you to understand if you couldn't make enough extra money for people to take.
I blatantly made fun of the fact that you can't use standard English grammar to differentiate the word "your" and "you're", and you still used the wrong one -- four times. I'll say it again, go back to grade school.
makes me wonder if this whole health care debate was actually just a way to get money out of the insurance companies to continue funding their stupid war.
Dr. Flowers pointed out that the current legislation is essentially everything that the insurance industry has asked for with just a few things they wish weren't there, like public option.
I can't believe the public is so convinced that the insurance industry is opposing the legislation. They will be raking in profits from new customers who could never have afforded healthcare insurance without subsidies or would neve have bought it if it wasn't a requirement of law.
whats ironic, well not really, but on the surface appears ironic, is that many republicans and some dems support the government mandating that all citizens buy private insurance...
completely contradictory to the supposed republican/conservative ideology of less government or getting the gov off peoples backs...or whatever other crap they say...
They learned how from the Republicans. During Newt Gingrich's tenure as Speaker of the House, industry lobbyists directly wrote the bills that the GOP controlled Congress passed. Get your facts straight.
you misunderstood me I know thats what happened with the 90s but the dems in the senate who have more republican party like values seem set on serving the same interests. I'm on your side. Max Baucus and the others right now in the senate finance committee who were against the public option let alone medicare for all are the ones I'm frustrated with.
Both parties have been bought and paid for by Big Insurance/Big Pharma. The same entities have so much control of the media and weak-minded people's thoughts, that they forget all of us are one bad break away from having no coverage.
We can not stand by and do nothing while some folks try and stand in the way of REAL Health Care Reform. Together we can and will make a difference. Take action NOW!

Just say no to any gov health care program. No single payer, no gov insurance plan, no interference by gov in health care at all. Medicare and medicaid are disasters; cost and delivery suck.

Then get a different insurance company. What, you don't know how to shop for insurance? You'd like others to decide for you? Oh, you'd like others to pay for your health care. Just another deadbeat looking for handouts. How civilized you are.
You realize that the Government option is just an option right? You still have to pay into it like any insurance company, but the catch is that they can't refuse you for pre-existing conditions like private companies can.
Obviously "free healthcare for all" won't work, just because of costs. That's only one part of two parts, and the other is a public option.
Having a public option would be nice though for those who have to pay higher premiums or get denied because of pre-existing conditions.
Police and Fire departments are paid for by taxes so it would be my understanding that absolute healthcare for all would have to be paid for by taxes in some way.
I don't object to absolute healthcare for all, but I question the overall cost of giving absolute coverage for everyone without taking something to pay for it...I'm not entirely clear on how it could be paid for, as medical practitioners must be compensated.
Maybe make cuts to the military...yeah right like that will ever happen lol.
Ask not what tax payers should pay for, rather what they shouldn't be paying for; congressional pensions, congressional health care, congressional pay raises, and most of the bureaucracies that have grown up around all the interference in our personal lives. Most of the federal departments that do nothing but regulate our lives. Get rid of the IRS and the Federal Reserve.
I'm sure you'd agree that torture is necessary in a civilized society. No? So China isn't a civilized society? How about Iran? How about Russia? No? How about a free society, where the individual is responsible for their own lives? No? I see, you just think it's civilized for others to pay for your health care.
Uh ohhh, someone's been listening to Glenn Beck. You people are all of a sudden outraged by redistributive policies when they're going toward "others". But, you've been perfectly tolerant over the years of all the corporate welfare (farming subsidies, Medicare Part D, military industrial complex, medical industrial complex). Get a life. Welcome to modern civilization.
bbburton---Did you decide to be born? Did you take care of yourself from the moment you were born? How simple life would be if we all lived your life. I know some mentally and physically handicapped "deadbeats" I would like you to meet sometime.
Since we all get to decide how life goes, why are you not making more money? Are you lazy or something?
Anyways...good luck to ya...I actually hope you don't get sick cause I want your insurance company to make plenty of profit off ya.
How trite. Make my life the spearhead of your assault freedom. Being born is not the issue. The issue is what right does gov have to interfere in our lives. As simplistic as you seem to make this argument out to be, you, nor any of the other gov control freaks have no answer. It's not about insurance companies; no one is forcing you to have insurance, yet. It's not about those with handicaps, and implying that is also my burden is absurd. It's about compulsion versus personal responsibility.
When you see a speed limit sign, a stop sign, a Yield sign, the Gov is interfering in your life. When you USED to be able to invest your money and rest easy knowing it wont go "poof" because some slickster devised a sweet little scheme to bilk you, that WAS the Gov interfering in your life. When you USED to be able to enjoy food bought from a store without worrying whether it was safe, that WAS the Gov interfering in your life.
Why is it that you ignore the forest and see only the tree? Fraud has always been a crime. Harming another has always been a crime. Not having health insurance, not driving a car, growing your own food, building your own home were choices you made without gov interference. When you see a red light at night, no traffic, you probably just sit there until it turns green, that's how much you've lost the ability to think and do for yourself. It's pathetic, that's the pattern you've developed.
Wtf are u on about.. Torture is ALWAYS wrong but it is not the staple of civilization. That has to do with a societies internal structure.
U are barely making sense with ur drivel, but the only person in america to get a bad deal out of universal healthcare is that ONE GUY who is NEVER sick, NEVER injured and has no family. For the rest of us we end up paying less.
Were you born and stupid, or were you just raised to think that way? The majority of people are healthy, and insurance is only a bet; that you won't get sick. Only stupid people believe that they will get sick, and idiots like you believe that others should pay for your stupidity.
I realize now u must be very young, when u grow up and start to make a family for urself u will realize that u don't bet with ur families lives, u hope for the best and plan for the worst.
U want to make the argument that we don't need Health insurance then go ahead,
But the fact is that anyone (normal) that can afford it will buy it, and because of that fact, everyone should have it.
Spoken like a true inbred hick. If you catch a cold, I bet you'd head straight to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. You probably think homeowners insurance is useful when a light bulb goes out. And auto insurance is great when you get a flat tire. It's idiots like you that keep the insurance scam going. Get a spine; learn how to take care of yourself.
Spoken like a true inbred hick. The only attention you want is what you can steal from someone else. You couldn't live your own life if you tried. Keep that teat in your mouth, you obviously couldn't live without it.

"health care" is not a right.
With all the crap that America consumes why should i pay for someone's care when I haven't seen a doc in 11 years because i decide to eat healthy. Instead of reporting on people bitching about care, you should be asking why so many people are fat and disease ridden in the first place. The lack of self responsibility/sustainability is astounding.
All I see are people poisoning themselves with chemicals then asking someone else to make them better for free.
I do take responsibility, asshole. However, I was born with conditions that cause problems sometimes. I exercise, try to eat right, but the problem I have will always be there. Cerebral Palsy is tough to live with, makes it tough to keep a job, which is why I am in college right now. I could use help with health care, and so could many others with conditions like mine so shut the fuck up.
I agree with the responsibility part. It's absolutely necessary.
But just because you haven't been to a doctor in 11 years does not mean you won't be in the emergency room a year from now.
The public has been paying for your treatment, should you need one, since you came into this world from day 1. It's about time they deserve a return on the investment they made in you. And that applies to everyone.
Healthcare is a right of all taxpaying citizens. Thats why we pay taxes, protection, administration and healthcare.
If u have health insurance ur workplace, or u are paying A LOT of money needlessly so that corporate leaders can constantly make more profit every year.
I agree with you 100%. I'm just speculating on a tactic that may explain why one of the TOO Parties might appear to be acting against it's stated intent.
The 49-51 was the percentage at the polls. It's almost always this anymore. I sense a desire to generate a "decisive mandate", that will be utilized to affect sweeping alterations to the very structure of our way of Law.
Ehm no. U want to live on a farm in the woods go right ahead. Id rather live in a society where my sons and daughters can become anything they want to.
If the real goal is 2010, and NOT Health Care, then H.C. is used as a lightning rod of public opinion / desire, and then is sabotaged, with the appearance of failure blamed on the opposition, which fuels a charged pro incumbent attitude at the polls in 2010.
Diabolical? hmmmm probably... but then, what in professional politics is NOT?
After a sweeping strengthening of ranks after 2010, even amnesty could be achieved.

makes me wonder if this whole health care debate was actually just a way to get money out of the insurance companies to continue funding their stupid war.

Dr. Flowers pointed out that the current legislation is essentially everything that the insurance industry has asked for with just a few things they wish weren't there, like public option.
I can't believe the public is so convinced that the insurance industry is opposing the legislation. They will be raking in profits from new customers who could never have afforded healthcare insurance without subsidies or would neve have bought it if it wasn't a requirement of law.
zthustra 2 years ago
absolutely...
if the mandate happens...it will be a disaster...
whats ironic, well not really, but on the surface appears ironic, is that many republicans and some dems support the government mandating that all citizens buy private insurance...
completely contradictory to the supposed republican/conservative ideology of less government or getting the gov off peoples backs...or whatever other crap they say...
EnhancementSmoker 2 years ago 2
and i think while you are generally correct...
we have to acknowledge the fact that Insurance companies are still spending over a mil a day...6 lobbyists to every one congressman...
A mandate is a huge gift to the insurance industry...
but its important to remember that there are some strings attached...like no denying coverage of pre-existing conditions.
So from that perspective, i think they would be just as happy with and are still fighting for no reform at all...

That's why they are paying both sides ... it's good to be an American where democracy means that the people with the most money get the most votes.

These doctors are terribly naive. What did they expect after Obama accepted over $100,000 in campaign funds from the insurance companies?

That seems rather low, they probably gave far more than that.

I'm continuously angered by the dems bending over for industry execs.
saft911 2 years ago 3
They learned how from the Republicans. During Newt Gingrich's tenure as Speaker of the House, industry lobbyists directly wrote the bills that the GOP controlled Congress passed. Get your facts straight.
alkh3myst 2 years ago
you misunderstood me I know thats what happened with the 90s but the dems in the senate who have more republican party like values seem set on serving the same interests.

Just say no to any gov health care program. No single payer, no gov insurance plan, no interference by gov in health care at all. Medicare and medicaid are disasters; cost and delivery suck.

Yeah and Private Insurance plans are so awesome. I love having denial of coverage letters sent out for the most basic thing.

Then get a different insurance company. What, you don't know how to shop for insurance? You'd like others to decide for you? Oh, you'd like others to pay for your health care. Just another deadbeat looking for handouts. How civilized you are.
bbburton 2 years ago
You realize that the Government option is just an option right? You still have to pay into it like any insurance company, but the catch is that they can't refuse you for pre-existing conditions like private companies can.
Obviously "free healthcare for all" won't work, just because of costs. That's only one part of two parts, and the other is a public option.
Having a public option would be nice though for those who have to pay higher premiums or get denied because of pre-existing conditions.
GetTheCans 2 years ago 4
GetTheCans--Agree with you for the most part except your certainty that "free healthcare" won't work.
Does your local fire department not go to every wreck or fire where they are needed?
Does your police Dept. not respond to every call where they are needed?
How does the city or state pay for admin. , cars, equipment, training, salaries, jails, etc.?
Maybe medical profits are too high.
Just because you would pay every $ you have to save your life doesn't mean you should have too.
sabiki74 2 years ago 2
Police and Fire departments are paid for by taxes so it would be my understanding that absolute healthcare for all would have to be paid for by taxes in some way.
I don't object to absolute healthcare for all, but I question the overall cost of giving absolute coverage for everyone without taking something to pay for it...I'm not entirely clear on how it could be paid for, as medical practitioners must be compensated.
Maybe make cuts to the military...yeah right like that will ever happen lol.
GetTheCans 2 years ago
I think it needs to happen.

And who pays for the public option? Tax payers, of course. And having insurance will be mandatory. It's bull shit, just like medicare and medicaid.
bbburton 2 years ago
What should taxpayers pay for, bbburton?
jimlaregina 2 years ago
Ask not what tax payers should pay for, rather what they shouldn't be paying for; congressional pensions, congressional health care, congressional pay raises, and most of the bureaucracies that have grown up around all the interference in our personal lives. Most of the federal departments that do nothing but regulate our lives. Get rid of the IRS and the Federal Reserve.
bbburton 2 years ago
The first head I would place on the chopping block would be that of corporate welfare recipients.
jimlaregina 2 years ago
unfortunately they are necessary in a civilized society.
Ex0dus111 2 years ago
I'm sure you'd agree that torture is necessary in a civilized society. No? So China isn't a civilized society? How about Iran? How about Russia? No? How about a free society, where the individual is responsible for their own lives? No? I see, you just think it's civilized for others to pay for your health care.
bbburton 2 years ago

Anyways...good luck to ya...I actually hope you don't get sick cause I want your insurance company to make plenty of profit off ya.
sabiki74 2 years ago 2
It's about compulsion versus personal responsibility.
bbburton 2 years ago
When you see a speed limit sign, a stop sign, a Yield sign, the Gov is interfering in your life. When you USED to be able to invest your money and rest easy knowing it wont go "poof" because some slickster devised a sweet little scheme to bilk you, that WAS the Gov interfering in your life. When you USED to be able to enjoy food bought from a store without worrying whether it was safe, that WAS the Gov interfering in your life.
Hmmm, I am seeing a pattern developing here.
Plutonwolf 2 years ago 3

Ex0dus111 2 years ago
Were you born and stupid, or were you just raised to think that way? The majority of people are healthy, and insurance is only a bet; that you won't get sick. Only stupid people believe that they will get sick, and idiots like you believe that others should pay for your stupidity.
bbburton 2 years ago
AHAHAAHAAHAHA!!!!!
What a fucking moron you are.
Ure never gonna get sick huh...
Ex0dus111 2 years ago
Spoken like a true inbred hick. If you catch a cold, I bet you'd head straight to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. You probably think homeowners insurance is useful when a light bulb goes out. And auto insurance is great when you get a flat tire. It's idiots like you that keep the insurance scam going. Get a spine; learn how to take care of yourself.

Because nobody ever gets cancer and nobody ever gets old amirite?
Rantandreason 2 years ago 9

And that applies to everyone.
timetraveler2006 2 years ago 3

They say nothing in politics is a coincidence.

Party Control. No more 49 - 51
