Christina A. on Etta James: Etta James was a force to be reckoned with. A true gift to music and a woman of great spirit and courage.
Her raw tone and the passion she put forth on a record spoke to me at a very young age and has continued to influence and inspire me throughout my career. She will NEVER be forgotten, her voice will forever live on and she will inspire talent for generations to come.
It's something about the way the background singers say "meeeeeeeeeeee-ee-eee-eeee" that has me pressing rewind a million times. James had one of the greatest voices!
@SMG6771 I know; I actually heard the recording of the cover (& saw video footage of them singing the song in a Peoples Temple documentary). It's kinda strange when you think about how the PT actually started out, & what it ended up becoming in its final years...
I LOVE this old song....great piano work....and then the rejoicing HITS: "It was the HOLY GHOST!" Choirs need to get back to this good old gospel singing!
Jer 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
I was singing this song when I wass 6 years old. I am 49 now! They just dont make em like this no more! and Shrley Ceasser. Oh My God I thank you!!!!!
i liked the story the All Music Guide gives on Rev. Cleveland, where is said he created a piano out of metal and other scraps, basically learning how to play without actually producing a note.........now if that story is actually true, then that is truly a God given talent
I love this man and the way he sounds. I JUST BOUGHT SEVERAL OF HIS CDs...AND IM JUST STARTING TO PLAY THE KEYBOARD SO I CAN FOLLOW IN HIS FOOT STEPS. START MY OWN CHOIR AND BRING BACK SOME OF THAT GOOD OL' TIME RELIGION (SMILING)
i love this song we sing it our church and it's beautiful!!! so come on Jesus... roll on in with the Father.. as you two begin to move by the Spirit our church kinda reminds me of those old tent revivals not the fake ones were people shook on the floor giving money for healing but the ones were Jesus was preached with fire!!! and people were getting the Holy Ghost!!! as they cry out Abba Father!!
I went to a meeting to fight, my heart wasn't right, but SOMETHING got ahold of me...(fight is how I remember it) another song from my childhood at Southern Gospel Campmeetings!!!
this is back when church meant becoming Born-again, repentance and thanksgiving to God; not this come to church and praise Him so He will bless you these false-prophets are preaching now. they will have their part in the lake of fire!!! thanks for posting.
Amen my friend. One day when the Lord blesses me, I want to start an independent Pentecostal ministry with a fundamentalist holiness theology. Something like the Church of God in Christ was before it became the institutionalized "COGIC", which was like 100 years ago. We need to seek the old paths and reject the Trendy Bullcrap Nonsense (TBN?) theology we've had far too much of over the years.
i know it is just a big distraction to what is really at stake here. as the Lord said about the seed that fell among the thorns; the cares of this world choked the Word of God out. what is more of the cares of this world other than the desire or "love" of money?! the love of money is the root of all evil!!!
Amen. Besides, TBN only has a handful of decent programming. Daystar, Church Channel, INSP, etc., aren't any better. Now that I've stopped looking at these "Hollywood" preachers, I have more time to be a Berean believer and read the good book for myself.
a berean believer; i never heard of that term b4. what is that? what has happened to "church" is that now is has transform n2 the establishment that was around when Christ was walking 2 saved. self-serving preachers, care more about the routine than the meaning of it. not @ all humble and 4 real, and it has spreaded to the masses now. LORD HAVE MERCY!!!
A Berean Believer is what I like to call a Christian who's final authority is the Word of God. It's based on Acts 17:11:
"Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness, and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true" (NIV).
I hear what you're saying about the establishment of the status quo of church leadership. That's why churches break away from institutionalized denominationalism.
Not to mention church politics, especially in the Black church. That's why many Blacks go to white churches. I'm not knocking those congregations. In fact they appear to be seeking God's will for their lives more aggressively than we are. Many of us as a people don't even think of church unless it's Easter, Christmas or Mother's day.
but it more than churches now, it has moved down to the believers themselves. i myself have wrestle with it 4 sometime. should i still be a member of a church or should i just gather with believers in houses 2 discuss the Word and still do my alms b4 God.
We should go to church. Hebrews 10:25 says so. Not that its a commandment but it helps us grow as believers and stay encouraged in the faith. As far as gathering in houses, didn't they do that in the days of the apostles? Isn't that how many of today's ministries big and small got started? Also giving alms b4 God and helping others is His will for us. Seek God in prayer and let your conscience be your guide. After all, that's the part of our spirit God speaks to.
When I start my ministry, I will do it online first by posting videos, you know virtual bible studies and play some hymns/worship songs, build a website, newsletters, join a fellowship (church network) and stuff. After that, I'll try to branch out in my city, get a meeting place, like my place until I need a bigger venue and go from there. All I need now is a laptop and a webcam.
sounds like u hve a plan. i myself when and only if God calls me into that direction; until then i will contiune to teach 1 on 1 with folks that may hve questions.
Let me correct myself. It's God's ministry, not mine. Second, I've known since 2003that He called me. I want to be a vessel He can use. In these last days He's going to use the unknown, those who are unqualified by man's standards, theologically undereducated to get His church in Biblical order before He returns. Why? So that the religious churchfolk can be saved for real and so sinners can see that God is real not churchfolk being hypocrites. Then revival will truly come to the body of Christ.
God has always used the so-called "uneducatued" to accomplish His WIll. only with a few exceptions: moses , samuel, and paul. God uses the simple to confound the wise so no 1 can glory nfront of Him.
That is so true. It's the religious establishment, the Pharisees and Sadducees of our modern church world that put so much emphasis on it. They have an educated form of godliness, with their advanced degrees from liberal bible colleges, but they deny the power and in some cases the Word of God. So many "Christian" schools like that now especially this one I work at in Memphis.
liberal? shouldnt use that word like that Is. 32:1-8. now but to the "educated"; they many (not all) do have a form of godliness, bcuz as Christ said..." you strain to get a gnate and missed the boulder" n " you worry about the little things and not the more weighter things of God"
Sorry. I should have specified the ones who were guilty of that and not include those who really do fear God in the mainstream churches and seek to live righteous lives but we shouldn't ignore the ones who's lives consistently contradict their testimony. Liberal like conservative is a political term used by secular media but I used it in the context of so called Christians who have liberated thinking in that all things are permissible in this postmodern, politically correct society we live in.
You see, those are the Christians who preach self help theology and feel good gospel messages. Not all of them may be guilty of it but it does go on. In fact I am certain the mass majority of such Christians go to many great cathedral mega-churches and never receive conviction of their sins bc they want feel warm and fuzzy not condemned. And when they leave the service, they already have planned out what kind of dirt they will partake of. Sermonettes make Christianettes. They want milk not meat.
np; hmm i wonder where is that comment were i marked down scripture? but 2 tell u the truth all kinds of people have that mindset libs and cons alike. look what happened in the bush era where cons thought and did whatever they want!!!
Lord Lord! This is wonderful, something definitely got a hold of me and thank you Lord for that hold. Jesus you hold has enveloped me, touched me and healed me. Thank you Jesus!
Rev. Cleveland was quite a revolutionary figure in Gospel Music. Thomas A. Dorsey formed the idiom and took Black Religious Music on a tangent from the 1930's to the 60's then James Cleveland took it to an even greater level. @preachersdtr1 She came up to Vancouver in 1962 to teach our 100 voice choir how to R E A L L Y sing--, the dedication service of Glad Tidings Temple that same year, with Billy Preston accompanying on our Hammond, and Doris at the piano. Just search Doris Akers and you'll pull plenty of them up--she did a lot of Gaither Homecoming Friends before she passed shortly after in 1995--that lady's music has TOTALLY blessed me over the years; I miss her, I love her, and we'll be seein' ya soon~!
